Having said that Talbot haven't threatened much, they fashion one as winger Jamie Glasgow skins Michael Smith on the right-back's outside.

However, he fails to threaten goalkeeper Craig Gordon and his effort flashes wide.

So close to a fourth for Hearts and Barrie McKay is again the creator.

The former Rangers midfielder's defence-splitting flick sends Peter Haring into the penalty box, but the Austrian's shot is turned into the side netting off the hand of goalkeeper Andy Leishman at the front post.

Business as usual is restored with Hearts back on the attack - and they should be further ahead.

Michael Smith's low cross finds Andy Halliday unmarked 12 yards out, but the midfielder can't add to his opening goal as he steers his first-time effort over the crossbar.

Talbot should have a goal back as goalkeeper Craig Gordon can only block defender Aiden Wilson's low drive with his knee and it falls to namesake Graham 10 yards out.

The striker takes a good first touch but lifts his side-footed effort over the crossbar.

What a start to the second half from Hearts. Halliday makes it easy for Boyce, who just has to angle his header across goal. That's game over

    Liam Boyce

    It's all over now!

Andy Halliday headed Hearts into the lead and the former Rangers midfielder sets up the third as he holds off his marker while thrusting into the penalty area and his neat chip into the six-yard box finds Liam Boyce stealing in between two defenders to head home.

The Northern Ireland striker's second of the game surely is taking Hearts through to tonight's draw.

Talbot are renowned for their battling qualities, especially on their tight home pitch, but they can't get close enough to their more illustrious opponents to apply any pressure and are looking like little boys lost at the moment.

  20. HALF-TIME Auchinleck Talbot 0-2 Heart of Midlothianpublished at 13:16 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2022

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson understandably has a big, beaming smile on his face as he heads to the dressing-room with his side well on their way to the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.

Sixth-tier Auchinleck have a reputation of making it tough for the big boys, but chances of following up their win over Championship side Hamilton in the previous round with another have probably been killed off by those goals from Andy Halliday and Liam Boyce.
