The Manchester derby has become such a big day in the WSL calendar. United are on a journey. It's not just a Manchester derby, it's a massive game in terms of both teams' Champions League prospects, and for United their title aspirations because they are very much still in it.

Manchester City are a different prospect for United today as a number of high-profile players have returned from injury since they last met in the cup.

Red Devils boss Marc Skinner knows that added "depth" will play a part in todays' game.

"It doesn't matter how good they are, we have to perform and outperform them if we want to win the game," he said.

"I'm challenging the team to bring our very best and if we do that, we will look back with no regrets whatsoever.

We need a fine balance between arrogance and confidence. We have to strike that balance. We know that when we play Manchester City, they'll probably dominate the ball.

"They play the same ideas for a long time now and Gareth's obviously adapted them slightly. For us, it's about understanding that times we'll have to counter-attack or at times you'll have to build with confidence and composure.

"If we get the balance right, we have a very good chance, but we're not underestimating what they can do.

"I think it'll be a different game to the previous two. They'll be in a different headspace. They have depth that can change and adapt the game, so you have to prepare for more things than if they didn't have that depth."

  6. Man City's White 'not ruling out' WSL titlepublished at 12:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

Manchester City forward Ellen White says the club's hopes of winning the Women's Super League title are still alive going into today's derby showdown against Manchester United.

City are 11 points adrift of leaders Arsenal with nine games still to play.

Victory on Sunday would move City to within two points of United in the race for Champions League qualification.

"I don't want to rule that [the title] out because you don't know what could happen," said England striker White.

Manchester City make three changes from their 1-0 defeat by Chelsea seven days ago as Australia defender Alanna Kennedy, Spain midfielder Vicky Losada and England striker Ellen White all start.

Ruby Mace, Caroline Weir and Khadija Shaw drop to the bench, while City's England skipper Steph Houghton remains out with an Achilles injury.

There's a key absence for Manchester United as Leah Galton - the WSL's Player of the Month for January - misses out, presumably with an injury. Norway's Vilde Boe Risa takes her place in United's sole change from their 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
