  2. 'We want to get close to Old Firm' - Neilsonpublished at 17:56 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    Heart of Midlothian 2-0 Motherwell

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson tells BBC Scotland: "We're aiming up the way, we're trying to get as close as we can to the Old Firm.

"Rangers dropped points today, I know there's a big distance between us but we have to try and get as close as we can to them, and if we do that we don't have to worry what's underneath us."

Neilson revealed he not only expects John Souttar to be a Hearts player after the transfer window closes, but he also says he'll be fit for the midweek Edinburgh derby with Hibernian.

On the 2-0 win over Motherwell, he says: "Delighted to get the three points but I think they can play a lot better. I think there's room for improvement that's for sure.

"We were a wee bit off it, especially in the first half. Even in the second half we could have moved it a bit quicker. We made changes but we've got a good squad."

  3. 'In the second half, we lost control' - Maloneypublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    FT: Hibernian 2-3 Livingston

Hibernian manager Shaun Maloney tells BBC Scotland: "I'm very disappointed to lose the match in the way we did. Two set plays and a counter-attack is very disappointing.

"It was very much a game of us being very good in the first half and then poor in the second, we lost control.

"In reality, the reason we didn't win this game was because of two set plays. We didn't deal with a counter-attack when we gave the ball away, and then we could maybe be more clinical with the chances we had in the final third.

"I think the chances they had were limited, you can shoot from however far out you want.

"In fairness, they were dangerous from set plays but we knew that and we didn't deal with that today and that's the difference between the two teams."

  4. 'For large parts we were better team' - Alexanderpublished at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

FT: Heart of Midlothian 2-0 Motherwell

Motherwell manager Graham Alexander tells BBC Scotland: "I thought we played really well. We competed, we pressed really well, they couldn't get their game going.

"We got a sucker punch against us. I thought the second goal was similar to the first.

"I just thought there were a couple of moments in the game that they took, we didn't, and that was the difference.

"I thought for large parts we were the better team but the game is about goals."

  6. Edwards on baby watchpublished at 17:47 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    FT: Celtic 1-0 Dundee United

United boss Tam Courts has explained to BBC Scotland that centre-half Ryan Edwards missed out at Celtic Park because his partner is expecting a baby and he had travelled down south to be with her.

Courts will be hoping the key man will be able to return ahead of Tuesday's derby away to Dundee.

  7. Courts 'bitterly disappointed' after late losspublished at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    FT: Celtic 1-0 Dundee United

Dundee United head coach Thomas Courts is pleased with the way his under-strength side took Celtic to the wire before a "very cruel" late winner.

"They gave absolutely everything," he tells BBC Scotland. "I thought the boys executed the game plan excellently well. We've had a really strong week, going through in the Scottish Cup and today putting in a strong performance.

"But just bitterly disappointed that we've lost that late goal, which is testament to Celtic for pushing right to the end, but we do leave frustrated. We have to dust ourselves down pretty quickly and focus on a big match on Tuesday."

  8. 'It's not good enough' - Stevenson on 'spooked' Hibspublished at 17:43 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    FT: Hibernian 2-3 Livingston

Hibernian left-back Lewis Stevenson tells BBC Scotland: "In the first half I thought we were good, everything we worked on was going to plan. We conceded a sloppy goal again though and the second half just wasn’t good enough.

"Livingston probably did the dirty parts of the game better than we did and I think the tactics and the way we want to play goes out the window at times. You need to do the basics better, and Livingston definitely did that.

"They were by far the better team in the second half.

"They pressed us higher up the pitch and went man-for-man at times and we probably didn’t deal with it and we looked a bit spooked. Look, it’s not good enough."

  11. Halliday goals 'like London buses'published at 17:33 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

FT: Heart of Midlothian 2-0 Motherwell

Hearts midfielder Andy Halliday tells BBC Scotland after getting on the scoresheet that his goals "are like London buses".

"It's been a while to get the third," he says. "I managed to get the third and fourth in a matter of weeks.

"I feel sorry for you having to come down and watch it [the game], it wasn't a great game of football to be honest with you.

"That was five changes the manager made today and we still managed to get a result."

  12. 'We were worth three points today' - Martindalepublished at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    FT: Hibernian 2-3 Livingston

Livingston manager David Martindale tells BBC Scotland: “It was a good win, we didn't start very well. In the first 15 minutes we struggled to get to grips with their shape and then they get an early goal.

“Then we get one back through big Ayo, who was brilliant. Then they score a freak goal. Max is potentially too close to his front post but it is a freak goal. It’s a cross that ends up dropping in at the back post.

“Overall we were well worth our three points today. We played well on the counter and looked very, very comfortable. In attack, we were decent and always looked offensive in our play."

  14. 'The players found something within them' - Postecogloupublished at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

    FT: Celtic 1-0 Dundee Utd

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has again hailed his players' character after another late win.

"It was a frenetic finish," he tells BBC Sportsound. "I'm delighted with the end result. Credit to the players, again they found something within them.

"We weren't at our best, especially in the first half. As long as the game goes, you think we have to find something special. For the last three and a half months, they've risen to every challenge."

On match-winner Liel Abada: "He's had a baptism of fire. He's understanding what it's like to play for this football club. He's embraced it. It would've been easy for him to snatch at it but he kept his composure."

It was a big day at the top of the Championship as well.

With Arbroath's game at home to Partick Thistle postponed, Kilmarnock's win at home to Inverness has taken Derek McInnes' men to within a point of Dick Campbell's leaders.

Meanwhile, at the bottom, Dunfermline's victory at Queen of the South leaves Allan Johnston's side rooted to the bottom.

There was an attendance of 4,790 at Rugby Park to witness this first home win since 30 October and the roar the crowd let out at full-time was sizeable!

Killie are one point behind Championship leaders Arbroath and the pair play each other next Friday night live on BBC Scotland.

For Caley Thistle, it’s six games without a win.
