Summary

  • Barcelona could move back into Champions League places with win

  • Valencia currently sit 12th

  1. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:28 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

    Valencia 0-3 Barcelona

Valencia have brought Maxi Gomez on for Hugo Guillamon. That could prompt a change of shape.

Barcelona bring on Oscar Mingueza for Eric Garcia.

That makes me thing Garcia may have picked up an injury and Barca play Napoli in the second-leg of the Champions League tie on Thursday. It's 1-1 after the first leg.

  2. POSSIBLE PENALTYpublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

    Valencia 0-3 Barcelona

Here comes another VAR check. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been clutching his ankle after being caught by Mouctar Diakhaby.

The referee goes to the monitor but it's decided the boy Pierre was offside.

    We play on...

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is on the deck clutching his ankle. He's been caught and that might leave a little mark. He gets up gingerly...

Before I mention those substitutions I can tell you Gavi just forced a save, curling low at the bottom corner.

It was accurate but not too powerful. A solid save. My friends in America would call that "regulation".

  5. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

    Valencia 0-3 Barcelona

    We are back underway.

There are a couple of substitutions. I'll bring you those next. I think Barcelona have maybe picked up a key injury...

  6. Postpublished at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

    Valencia 0-3 Barcelona

I believe that goal Valencia had ruled out was the first to ever be chalked off by VAR in La Liga because the ball had gone out for a throw in.

  7. Postpublished at 16:15 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

The last time Barcelona were 3-0 up in a La Liga game they drew 3-3 with Celta Vigo.

    So who knows...

  8. Sun or biblical rain?published at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

I know this has nothing to do with Spain but given the sun is shining in Valencia I thought I'd drop this in.

If I'm a player... I'm taking my career to Spain.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

    Valencia 0-3 Barcelona

Three shots at goal, three goals.

    Efficient stuff from Xavi's men.

He's got them ticking once again.

  12. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 41 mins

    Valencia 0-3 Barcelona

    It's kicking off.

Valencia have the ball in the net but it's chalked out as the ball went out for a Barcelona throw in during the move.

Try telling that to the screaming masses. They want to lash out at someone and right now, it's the man in the middle.

The ball was out by a few inches, there's no doubt. Carlos Soler applied a lovely, acrobatic finish but the history books will not reference it.

A big moment. It's hard to see a way back.

    Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

    The man is strutting.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gets on the end of Gavi's ball across goal.

He cannot miss. Barcelona are looking like the Barca of old here with the kind of one-touch stuff that teams can't live with.

The speed of play, the movement of players and the chaos it causes in a defence means Aubameyang had half of Spain to work with in the six-yard box.

    Tapped in. All over?

Barcelona have this gripped. There's another one coming...

  15. Postpublished at 15:53 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2022

It's a really, really good team goal when you watch it back.

Dest, Busquets, Dembele, De Jong.... all linked up and fluid.

Slicker than a boyband in the '90s.

    De Jong

Lovely move, soft defending, Barca loving life in the sunshine.

Xavi's side have possession 35 yards out. Ousmane Dembele (who I said was anonymous earlier) makes a run in behind and he's found over the top. He can get there and cut the ball across goal first-time.... an easy tap in for Frenkie de Jong.

Valencia cut up like a birthday cake after the red pop has been handed out.

    Valencia 0-1 Barcelona

Replays of that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opener might well frustrate Gooners out there.

It was pretty vintage from the Gabon international.

Some pace to get clear, a touch, head up and he rifled it down the near post and high into the net. Top stuff.

    Valencia 0-1 Barcelona

Dare I say it, Valencia are getting a little carried away. They're committing men forward and when the ball gets turned over there's a lot of space to get at their back four.

Sergio Busquets plays a first-time pass to set Barca on their way but they get held up on halfway.

  19. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 26 mins

    Valencia 0-1 Barcelona

The home side have the ball in the net after some pathetic goalkeeping by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Jose Luis Gaya is down the left and he slams a cross in which the Barca keeper palms into his own net. He's luck that Gaya went too early on his overlap and was a yard or two off.

    He's off the mark folks!

Route-one Barcelona, now there's a description we didn't think we'd be using a decade ago.

Jordi Alba with a beautiful clip over the top... our man Pierre is onside and all it needs is a calm first touch and slam high into the net.

He has both in his locker and that somersault is also in his stash.

Out it comes. Live, laugh, tumble my friend. Live, laugh, tumble.
