Phil: Happy birthday Northampton Town, 125 years of keeping this town on the map. You’ve help created families, kept families together & you also divide families. You’ve created communities, kept communities together & created friendships that have lasted for life.

Rodney: Happy 125th birthday, Cobblers. It has been a rollercoaster ride, with plenty of ups and downs, particularly in the Sixfields era. However, it is a genuine community club and that is one thing which never changes. The last two years has demonstrated the importance of that.

Northampton Town will be wearing special 125th anniversary shirts for the visit of Tranmere

Tranmere Rovers are in town and they’re here to spoil the party.

It’s the 125th birthday for Northampton Town and the Cobblers will be expecting a bumper crowd at the Sixfields Stadium as they take on fellow promotion contenders Tranmere in what promises to be a game to savour.

Starting with the home side currently sat in second, they will be looking to recapture their form after stuttering of late - no wins in their past three and drawing 1-1 against Walsall on Tuesday.

Boss Jon Brady said early on in the week he will be proud to lead his side out on a momentous day for the club but wants to secure the perfect present for the bumper crowd by picking up all three points.

The Super White Army come into this huge clash in fourth, with a single point between the two sides. But Micky Mellon's men have to been struggling for points lately. They come into today's game after losing their past three away games so will be determined to see a change in fortune.

It promises to be fascinating fixture. Will Tranmere spoil the big bash for the Cobblers at the top end of League Two? Bring on three o’clock!

Dean: Absolutely massive game today!! Anything but a Derby win and a Reading defeat it's curtains for me. These players have been brilliant this season. Lets get behind them and have PRIDE PARK rocking today!! COME ON YOU RAMS!!!

Stephen: Probably our most important game of the season to date. Lose and it's fully over. Win and it keeps us in with a shout. Lawrence being back is massive. Need a huge favour from Millwall today also.

    Charlton v Sunderland (15:00 GMT)

Sunderland finally got that sought-after first win under new boss Alex Neil with an impressive 3-0 away victory at Wigan last week. Ross Stewart scored a brace of penalties in that game, taking him to 22 goals for the season, keeping him top of the scoring charts in League One.

Charlton could do with some goals themselves. It’s five defeats on the spin, in which they’ve conceded 12 and scored just two. Manager Johnnie Jackson is still “part of the club's long-term plan” according to the owner, but the pressure will mount even more if he doesn’t stop the rot here.

His reign as Charlton manager did get off to a winning start with a shock 1-0 victory at the Stadium of Light back in October - but can he prevent Sunderland from reigniting their promotion push today?

This fixture is steeped with its own history: a play-off win via a 7-6 penalty shoot-out for Charlton in 1998 after the game finished 4-4, another play-off win for the Addicks back in 2019 courtesy of a dramatic last-minute winner.

This game might not have as much riding on it as those two classics, but if it's got anywhere near as much drama - we’re in for a treat.

    Derby v Barnsley (15:00 GMT)

A huge match at the bottom of the Championship with Wayne Rooney's Derby County looking to put a difficult week behind them as they host upwardly mobile Barnsley at Pride Park.

It's been seven days to forget for the Rams after back-to-back 1-0 defeats by Luton Town and Cardiff City.

Their hopes of providing a much-needed morale-boosting win will be improved by the availability again of captain and top scorer, Tom Lawrence, who missed their last three matches through suspension after picking up a red card in the 1-0 win over Peterborough.

While Derby have struggled of late, Barnsley come into this crunch fixture buoyed by their best run of form all season.

Poya Asbaghi's side have picked up three wins in their past four matches, including a surprise 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough last time out. Prior to this, the Tykes had only recorded two wins in their previous 29 league fixtures.

The form of January loan signing Amine Bassi has played a key role in Barnsley's mini revival and the Moroccan scored twice in the win against Boro. Any hopes of survival will likely rest on the likes of him and fellow loanee, Domingos Quina, continuing their strong starts to life at Oakwell.

  14. League Two fixturespublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

All games kick off at 15:00 GMT

Runaway League Two leaders Forest Green have failed to win any of their past four matches and yet still start the day 10 points clear at the top.

They'll be looking to get back at it at a Salford side who are in good form and eyeing a play-off push.

Second-paced Northampton host fourth-placed Tranmere with both sides out of sorts.

That could open the door for surprise package Sutton to move up into the top three with a victory over Rochdale, while the division's form side Bristol Rovers visit seventh-placed Newport.

Mark Hughes' Bradford welcome Swindon desperately hoping they can end their run of four straight defeats.

Oldham start the day in second-bottom despite a great run of form and they travel to a Carlisle side who have secured back-to-back wins under Paul Simpson.

A full card of 12 games in the third tier kicking off at 15:00 GMT today.

League leaders Rotherham are closing in on a return to the Championship but face a stern test in the shape of MK Dons today.

Wigan look likely to take the second automatic promotion slot and will hope to put distance between them and the chasing pack with victory over struggling AFC Wimbledon.

In-form Sheffield Wednesday travel to a Lincoln side in danger of getting dragged back into the relegation zone and Sunderland make the trip to a Charlton side who have lost their past five games.

Doncaster and Gillingham looked bound for League Two a few weeks ago but some recent positive results have brought them back into contention.

  17. Elsewhere in the Championshippublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

Elsewhere in the Championship, Stoke City and Blackpool face off knowing only a win will do as both sides want to maintain their hopes of finishing in a play-off spot.

As it stands, the two teams are 10 and nine points respectively adrift of the top six.

Coventry host Swansea with the Sky Blues currently three points behind sixth in 10th spot and the Swans sitting in 16th.

And Bristol City take on Birmingham City with just three points separating the two sides. They sit in 17th and 20th place respectively, although neither club are in any danger of relegation.

West Brom's form since the turn of the year has been absolutely abject.

The Baggies have gone from competing for automatic promotion to being eight points off the play-offs.

Steve Bruce enjoyed a successful spell as Hull boss, leading them to two promotions to the Premier League and an FA Cup final.

In stark contrast, his start to life at The Hawthorns has produced four defeats from five and just a solitary goal in that time. The problems at the club may extend far above and beyond his remit but Bruce has been in the game long enough to know that can't go on.

  19. Will strugglers Reading end Millwall's winning run?published at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Millwall v Reading (15:00 GMT)

Millwall are on their best run of form for nearly four years and are aiming to win five successive games for the first time since April 2012.

The Lions are up to 11th following their good form, while their opponents Reading continue to battle relegation in 21st.

With their win over Birmingham in their last home match, Reading ended a run of 10 matches without a victory in front of their own supporters.

It was interim boss Paul Ince's first match in charge although his side soon crashed back down to earth in their next match - a 4-1 loss away to Blackpool last weekend.

Reading are currently six points above the relegation zone having played a game more than 22nd-placed Barnsley. Which Royals side will show up today?

  20. QPR looking to bounce backpublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    QPR v Cardiff (15:00 GMT)

QPR v Cardiff (15:00 GMT)Image source, Getty Images

Play-off hopefuls QPR will be hoping to bounce out of their mini slump at home to Cardiff this afternoon.

Rangers are currently fifth in the table with a two-point gap to seventh place, while the Bluebirds are languishing in 18th.

The hosts lost 1-0 to fellow promotion chasers Blackburn last weekend, meaning it's just one win in six matches for the west London side.

The Hoops travel to fellow play-off hopefuls Luton and Nottingham Forest over the next two weeks, so a win today would be crucial in laying a foundation for a winning run.

Expect goals in this fixture with Cardiff. The Welsh side are the third-highest scorers away from home in the Championship but they also have the third-worst defence on the road.
