    Almost an opening for Coventry.

Brazilian Gustavo Hamer swings it in to the back post where centre-half Jake Bidwell meets it but he can't get a convincing contact to trouble Marek Rodak in the Fulham goal.

I have to say there are few venues I enjoy going to more than Craven Cottage. A nice stroll along the Thames from either Putney or Hammersmith, it's easy to see why it's so popular with home and away supporters alike, whatever division Fulham are playing in.

Quiet start in the first few minutes.

It's a bright, sunny day in west London and the Coventry fans who have made the trip down to Craven Cottage are making a lot of noise in the away end.

The stadium is packed for this one and the home supporters know they're just two wins away from a return to the Premier League.

Fulham have a lot of the early possession as expected but there's not been too much to get them out of their seats just yet.

Not a spare seat to be had in the three stands at Craven Cottage - given the Riverside Stand is still under reconstruction. It is a sea of black and white.

Fair play to Coventry though, they have sold out their allocation of over 1,800 tickets and are making good noise in the Putney End.

  8. A big reversal of fortunes (part 2)published at 14:54 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

That rainy afternoon in early October left Coventry third in the Championship, with a 100% home record and dreaming of an unlikely promotion bid.

Sadly, they have not been able to maintain their early season form and they begin this one in 14th after a run of only two points from four games has realistically ended their play-off chances.

Interestingly, the top six on 2 October also included West Brom, Stoke and QPR who have all faded badly after Christmas.

So rewind six months and Coventry inflicted Fulham's heaviest defeat of the season with a 4-1 victory at the CBS Arena.

Second-half goals from Viktor Gyokeres (two), Matty Godden and Ian Maatsen had the CBS Arena rocking as the Cottagers suffered a third loss in six games with many questioning their promotion credentials.

Since then they have lost only three of 28 games and picked up 63 points, taking them 10 clear of second-placed Bournemouth and their reputation as this season's class act in the division firmly established.

Good afternoon and thanks for joining us. So you heard City were involved in a big title showdown and wanted to join us? Great, you made an excellent choice!

So can Coventry City pull off an unlikely victory at Championship leaders Fulham? The Cottagers' chance of securing promotion today was dashed following Nottingham Forest's 2-0 win over Birmingham yesterday.

Regardless of what Forest do, two more wins will get the job done, so three points this afternoon would move Marco Silva's side that bit closer to the Championship title and rubber-stamping that Premier League return.
