  3. Van Bronckhorst praise for 'magnificent' Rangerspublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    FT: Celtic 1-2 Rangers

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst told Premier Sports: "I'm feeling pretty good and very proud. It's been a busy week for us, very demanding physically, also mentally.

"To play extra-time two times in four days, the players were magnificent today. We had to dig deep. We did it as a team and we're proud that we're in the final.

"The subs gave the team a lot of energy. It was a tough game because Celtic is a very tough opponent. We knew our character could make the difference.

"It's important to be in the final but the most important thing is to win the final. We haven't won anything yet in the cup. We want to achieve something and the belief is there that we can win the cup."

  4. 'Celtic must use disappointment to fuel season finale'published at 17:15 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    FT: Celtic 1-2 Rangers

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou spoke to BBC Scotland: "It was a typical semi-final, very tight game. Both teams had their moments and they took theirs in extra-time and unfortunately we couldn't get over the line.

"I don't think any player from either side left that pitch without giving everything they had. Games like these are decided on moments and unfortunately it didn't happen for us. You've got to understand that, take that disappointment and fuel it for future endeavours.

"We've had a lot of setbacks this year, we've just overcome them really well and overcome them really quickly. This is another one. We've got five games now to become champions and our goal is to play our best football in those five games and see out the season.

"[The fans] have been fantastic all year. I'm sure they're going home disappointed, as are they players, as are all of us. The important thing is we use that disappointment to fuel what's left of this season and make sure we finish it off in the right way and get the rewards that this group of players deserve.

Celtic will be feeling sore after this defeat, which ends the dream of a fifth treble in six seasons, but they can't afford to dwell on the disappointment.

With a six-point lead in the Scottish Premiership and five games to play, they go to Ross County next Sunday.

After that, they are home to Rangers in what promises to be another blood-and-thunder contest.

What Rangers did today, compared to other derby games, is they hit Celtic in midfield. They went man-for-man at times. It was a brilliant match. This is Rangers' day and they deserve it for their first-half performance. Celtic were not able to match that mental strength.

  10. 'We've got to go one step further'published at 16:53 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    FT: Celtic 1-2 Rangers

Rangers midfielder John Lundstram told Premier Sports: "I'm just ecstatic to be in a cup final. This is what I've come here for, to win trophies with this great club. It's all worth it in the end.

"I don't think you'd understand how tough it is to 120 minutes back-to-back. Just a massive effort from everyone.

"We've got to go one step further."

  11. Postpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    FT: Celtic 1-2 Rangers

In the reverse of the last Old Firm meeting at Ibrox a fortnight ago, Celtic scored first, with Rangers fighting back to win.

Greg Taylor's deflected shot came during Celtic's best spell but Scott Arfield found the leveller and Carl Starfelt had the misfortune of knocking the ball into his own net near the end of extra-time.

On the balance of play, it's a deserved win since Rangers created the best chances but they could have really been up against it since Cameron Carter-Vickers missed a sitter to make it 2-0.

It's a victory for absolute desire and hunger. Celtic had plenty of that but Rangers just had that bit more. They went the extra mile. I don't know how they did it. Pure adrenaline. From the equaliser, they grew.

You just wonder what this could this do to the title race? The psychological advantage that it may hand Rangers going to Celtic Park pretty soon? A lot of Celtic fans would've been coming to Hampden today expecting jobs to be done and the treble in their grasp.
