That was a fierce shot from Watters this time but unfortunately it was just straight at the keeper.

But still good to see a positive reaction from Cardiff.

Cardiff look to respond immediately as Max Watters has a shot saved and, from the subsequent corner, Boro clear.

It's just come off a deflection and looped over the keeper. Nothing Dillon Phillips could do about that one. That's certainly not what Cardiff wanted this early into the half.

The mistake was made in the midfield, Cody Drameh giving the ball away.

Middlesbrough look more composed so far but they really cannot afford for Cardiff to equalise, in terms of their play-off hopes.

Boro skipper Jonny Howson has a shot blocked from 20 yards, before Cardiff build another patient attack.

That one breaks down too, with a long ball intended for Max Watters dribbling through to Luke Daniels.

Colwill just looks ahead of some of the other players sometimes. It's a joy to see a young kid with that ability and awareness, he's often two or three moves ahead of everyone else.

Boro try to attack down Cardiff's left, but the visitors break with Tommy Doyle.

His pass goes awry, though. Again, it's a bit disjointed.

I expect to see a different Middlesbrough team in this second half. Even though they took the lead they were poor in the first half and Cardiff were unfortunate to go behind.

Boro's Paddy McNair has a go with a long-range shot which balloons over and might end up landing in a different county.

The second half is under way. Middlesbrough get us started.

It is so far, so good for Middlesbrough, with Marcus Tavernier's goal putting them on course for a victory which would keep them firmly in the play-off hunt.

Steve Morison will be quite calm and collected. The system was working for him, the players look like they know what they're doing and they're getting opportunities in the box.

Tavernier's was a slick strike but I still think Dillon Phillips could have done better. But that was their only chance. Cardiff shouldn't be losing this game, they were on top for the first 25 minutes and we saw glimpses of that in the final few minutes too.

Cardiff have had the better of the opportunities in that first half. Colwill has been brilliant.

But Middlesbrough have made the most of just their one shot on goal while Cardiff squandered their chances.

Another quick feed from Colwill, I'm not sure that it was meant for Hugill but he's got to hit the target from there. Another opportunity missed.

Middlesbrough have that all-important lead and, as things stand, they're on course for a win which will take them to within two points of the play-off places.

They weren't at their best in that half - and Cardiff might have had a few more chances - but things are going to plan for Chris Wilder's home side so far.

We're into the one minute of added time at the end of this first half.

Jordan Hugill shoots first time from Rubin Colwill's cross and he hits it well - but it goes over.

That ball in from Colwill was absolutely perfect and that's a second opportunity that Watters has had now that he hasn't been able to take.

Another chance for Max Watters and this time the Cardiff striker's shot is blocked by ex-Bluebirds centre-back Sol Bamba.

Cardiff have had a few opportunities tonight but done little with them.

Lovely use of "stuck in the mud" from Kev, there. Don't think I've used that phrase since I was in primary school.

Cody Drameh does well to stifle an attack down Cardiff's right by Marc Bola.
