You write a game-plan against France and the first thing is to mark Wendie Renard from a corner.

For her to be unmarked is criminal.

It's a proper sucker punch because Wales are usually so good at marking in their six-yard area.

France showing their class

As we mentioned earlier, France are ranked third in the world by Fifa.

They have scored goals by the barrel-load so far in this qualifying campaign and are edging closer to booking their World Cup place.

Wales have threatened occasionally against high-class opposition, but France have been the better side.

The frustration for Gemma Grainger will be that for all France's attacking quality, her team trail to a goal from a set-piece.

YELLOW CARD

The first caution of the night goes to Ceri Holland, for shirt-pulling.

Sakina Karchaoui tries her luck from distance.

It is a fine strike from the French left-back but the ball drifts harmlessly over the top.

Wales are enjoying a slightly better spell, but you sense already it will take something special to turn this contest around.

The next 5-10 minutes are so important, it's really disappointing to concede a goal in that manner.

You can't leave a player with that much quality free and it came at a time when Wales were growing into the game.

It's really disappointing, Wales need to bounce back and be resolute now.

Carrie Jones turns well and for a moment it seems as though she might be abler to get at the French defence, but the impressive Wendie Renard closes the door.

France have looked nervy when Wales have managed to get players forward in this first half, but the visitors have been in control for long spells.

They are worth their lead.

I said after the first set piece there was a player unmarked, Wales have to be more disciplined in these areas.

You can see the quality of Wendie Renard, she makes it difficult for Laura O'Sullivan, but that is too easy and not good enough at this level.

France lead as Wales are undone at a set-piece.

Sandie Toletti floats a corner to the far post and Wendie Renard has time and space to head the ball beyond Laura O'Sullivan.

For all France's attacking prowess, they look quite fragile at the back.

I think Jess Fishlock has a lot more time than she realises, it's on her not-so favoured left foot, but I think she could have taken the ball down.

A chance for Wales goes begging.

Rhiannon Roberts' quick throw sends Natasha Harding into space down the right flank and her fine cross is only parried by France goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.

The ball drops to Jess Fishlock but, with the keeper stranded, she cannot wrap her foot around the volley and France escape.
