Wales striker Helen Ward, who won her 100th cap this evening, told BBC Two Wales: "It's always nice on an occasion like this to do it in front of home fans.
"Obviously the result isn't what we wanted but the girls battled so well, it's a shame we couldn't nick the equaliser.
"We could well have had a penalty, and there was a disallowed goal too, they may have taken us for granted and we were so close to a valuable point.
"This was always a bit of a freebie, we wanted the three points but in the long term we wanted second place and that's still in our hands.
"We've shown how close we can go against one of the best teams in the world tonight and we'll take that into the last three games."
'I don't think we'd look out of place in a tournament' - Grainger
FT: Wales 1-2 France
Wales manager Gemma Grainger told BBC Two Wales: "I think when we look at tonight we'll need to remind ourselves we were playing the third best team in the world.
"We've gone one step further tonight, we've really competed and threatened.
"Decisions could have gone either way, we need to believe now.
"We're disappointed when we're not getting results against top five teams and that's the mentality of the group now.
"Our standards are so high, these are the teams we want to play.
"I don't think we'd look out of place in a tournament."

Latest PostGood night - and see you on Tuesday
FT: Wales 1-2 France
Goodnight from Llanelli, where Wales were beaten but emerged with credit having pushed a high-class French side until the end.
Both French goals were disappointing from Wales' point of view, yet they dug deep admirably and responded through Sophie Ingle.
The job for Wales now is to try to win their three remaining games in Group I, which would secure second place and a spot in the play-offs.
The first of those comes in Kazakhstan on Tuesday.
We hope you'll join us for that.
