Some finish by the way, wow!
What a header. He's having to put pace and direction on it.

This certainly was not in the script for Qatar, a real shocker of a first half from the hosts.
Some very glum looking faces in the stands.

Qatar have their first ever World Cup shot but Abdelkarim Hassan hammers over.
Here was his first goal.
Enner Valencia
Give this man the Golden Boot.
Enner Valencia is unmarked in the centre as he heads Angelo Preciado's cross into the bottom corner. Great header by the veteran.

I don't think anything is going to stop the Qatar fans from enjoying this, regardless of the result.
They are loving it. Bouncing and swaying in the stands.

Two or three short passes, Qatar think they can squeeze. As soon as they do, they play round.
Confident on the ball, good technicians.

Qatar 0-1 Ecuador
Ecuador have had 62% of the ball. That penalty remains the only shot of the game (since disallowed goals don't count...)

Aleks: I like tactically organized and disciplined teams, not a fan at all of defenceless 'cavalier' style of football, but this Qatar side literally do nothing but park the bus, from second 1 of every game. easily the most negative team i ever saw, by a mile
As you can see from this Qatar heat map, the hosts are struggling to get out of their own half. They have been penned in by Ecuador in these opening 20 minutes.
