  1. 'It's a wild challenge'published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2022

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Araujo was pressed by Messi, which is unusual for him to press the ball. He just overruns the ball and it's a really wild challenge on Acuna.

He might be lucky to see yellow, there. I'd have to have another look but maybe it's just about right.

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

Mexico defender Nestor Araujo picks up a yellow card for trying out his version of 1990s tackling on Marcos Acuna.

  3. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

Free-kick Mexico and a chance to throw the ball into the mixer...

Instead they try a clever free-kick, going right before clipping it into the box but there's way too much loft on that and Emiliano Martinez comes and claims for Argentina.

This is all very stop-start, lots of breaks in play and very little in the way of quality. Messi flitting around the margins. Best thing so far is the atmosphere.

  5. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

All this game is lacking at the minute is a touch of composure and quality in the final third. Argentina are yet to have a touch of the ball inside the Mexico penalty area.

The Mexicans have managed just three despite showing plenty of early verve.

  6. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

The ball hits the ref so we have an uncontested drop ball with Argentina back in possession.

You'd imagine Andres Guardado would love to get involved in that.

  7. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

Mexico are snapping into challenges all over the pitch. Great start from Gerardo Martino's side.

  8. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

Andres Guardado is leading by example for Mexico. He absolutely thunders into a tackle with Argentina midfielder Rodrigo de Paul, taking ball and man.

    What a throwback.

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Mexico are really aggressive - it's been a very, very sharp start from them, as we expected.

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

    First chance. Well, half chance.

Andres Guardado whips a free-kick on from the left and Cesar Montes gets across the front of the Argentina defence to flick the ball wide of the back post.

  11. Mexico roared onpublished at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2022

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Lusail Stadium

The noise inside Lusail Stadium is ear-splitting and Mexico supporters are straight into shouting "Ole" when their side strings passes together.

It's been combative and this could be a busy night for referee Daniele Orsato.

  12. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

Good pressure from Andres Guardado and Alexis Vega sees Mexico win the ball back deep in Argentina territory.

Gonzalo Montiel wasn't given a second to get his head up there.

We wondered about the Mexico team - and it looks like they have gone to three centre-backs with two wing-backs.

It'll be interesting to see how Mexico approach this one because they may think that, with a draw this evening, things will still be in their hands.

  14. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

Gonzalo Montiel is down holding his face. The Argentina right-back looks like he was caught by Alexis Vega's arm.

The magic sponge is out already!

  15. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

Argentina having plenty of the ball early on. Mexico very much holding their revised 3-5-2 shape, which almost becomes a 5-3-2 as soon as Lionel Scaloni's side cross the half-way line.

When you looked at this group after the draw, you thought Argentina, on an incredible run before the tournament, would sail through. They had a 'gimme' game but lost in one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history against Saudi Arabia.

This is Messi's last World Cup. They've got to somehow find a way of winning tonight and getting themselves out of trouble.

  17. Postpublished at 1 mins

    Argentina 0-0 Mexico

Angel di Maria's first touch is greeted with a huge boo from the Mexico fans. Crikey, the Argentina winger could be playing at Old Trafford.
