    Poland 0-1 Argentina

    Poland almost respond immediately!

A free-kick is swung into the box and met by Kamil Glik, but his glanced header goes just wide. They need more of that. Much more of that.

    Huge.

Mexico have a corner and Cesar Montes flicks it on at the near post with Henry Martin sweeping it in from six yards out.

Both teams are still out as things stand.

Mexico are right on the attack though with Saudi keeper Mohammed Al Owais making a couple of stops.

Just what the game needed, just what Argentina needed.

Mac Allister decides he had to keep it low and get his body over it. He doesn't hit it sweetly but it doesn't matter.

This place has erupted. It's no more than Argentina deserve. It was too easy to get in down the right hand side. This is great for the game.

    Poland 0-1 Argentina

Now Poland have a job on their hands!

They were second best in the first half. Barely able to get out of their half.

They are still going through as it stands but they are vulnerable. Very vulnerable.

    Alexis Mac Allister

    That didn't take long!

What a time to score your first international goal. Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister is in space in the Poland box to meet Nahuel Molina's cross. He scuffs it but the ball dribbles into the far bottom corner.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2022

    Poland 0-0 Argentina

Poland have made changes at the break. They had to. They were a sitting duck.

Michal Skoras and Jakub Kaminski are on.

Adesola: Half time - Szczesny 0-0 Argentina

Will: Poland look well out of their depth. All well and good having Lewandowski but he doesn't get near the ball!

  12. 'Outrageous decision from VAR'published at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2022

    HT: Poland 0-0 Argentina

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

The penalty decision is disgraceful. This isn't what VAR has been brought in for. He's flicked his eyelash for starters and the fact that the ref goes over to look at it. I think that's an outrage decision that has been made here. He barely touches him.

    HT: Poland 0-0 Argentina

Since 1966, no side has had more shots on target in the first half of a World Cup game without scoring than Argentina against Poland today (seven shots on target).

  14. 'Great save from Szczesny'published at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2022

    HT: Poland 0-0 Argentina

    Pablo Zabaleta
Ex- Man City and Argentina defender on BBC One

Great for Szczesny because it was a great save. He has been really good in this World Cup, great goalkeeper for Poland.

Never in a month of Sundays is that a penalty and giving it sets a dangerous precedent. Keepers will be concerned about going for the ball in the air for fear of VAR ruling against them for doing what they should be doing.

    Steven

VAR has frustrated me over the years. But that decision has actually left me furious, and I don't even care who wins this game. If that's the direction the sport is heading, then at some point we'll all stop following.

  16. 'Poland have offered nothing'published at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2022

    HT: Poland 0-0 Argentina

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

Argentina have had most of the possession, still created most of the chances but they have been very sloppy. Poland have offered nothing, no support into Lewandowski. All they've done is kick and hope and hope that he will hold it up or that someone will run off him. There is work to be done here.

  18. Argentina much improvedpublished at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2022

    Poland 0-0 Argentina

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Stadium 974

Argentina much more like the team that was touted at potential winners before the World Cup but struggling to make the breakthrough, with Poland keeper Wojciech Szczesny outstanding, especially when saving Lionel Messis penalty.

There is much more intensity about Argentina and little has been seen of Poland's master marksman Robert Lewandowski.

John: Poland don't deserve much out of that half but they didn't deserve that atrocious decision either.

Richard: You get the sense that Poland have been planning for a draw since the groups were announced! Dangerous game to play.

  20. Penalty save keeps Poland on toppublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2022

A reminder that, as it stands, Poland will top Group C - thanks to Wojciech Szczesny's penalty save from Lionel Messi.

However, you suspect they will need to show more attacking intent in the second half against Argentina.

Saudi Arabia and Mexico both firmly in the mix to progress too.
