I said France haven't got started but it is a brilliant goal. Harry Souttar with a great ball out wide, Matthew Leckie took a great touch and then had the vision to pick out Craig Goodwin at the back post and he had the composure with a ruthless finish.

Harry Souttar plays a lovely ball out the right to Mathew Leckie. He beats his defender and then plays a ball over the back post.

It catches a slight deflection but still lands to Craig Goodwin, who smashes the ball into the roof of the net from six yards.

France have not really got started. The atmosphere inside the stadium has been quite flat since kick-off despite it being quite lively before kick off.

The France fans need to play with the right sort of intensity in order to get the fans off their seats and into the game, it feels like a training game at the moment.

'Full-backs will need help'

Both Australia full-backs are going to need some help in front of them.

Because against Mbappe and Dembele one-on-one, you're going to get done on more than one occasion.

Kylian Mbappe has Nathaniel Atkinson on toast initially on the left wing but Mbappe is slowed up as he cuts into the box and Hearts' Atkinson wins the ball back.

Not a bad opportunity that, the pass to him was a bit lucky but McGree had plenty of space.

He gets it out of his feet and you would expect him to do better, maybe a little bit nervous at this stage of the game.

Old-timers

Olivier Giroud (36y 53d) and Hugo Lloris (35y 331d) today become the oldest two players to play for France in a World Cup match, both surpassing Fabien Barthez from 2006 (35y 11d).

Six players in France's line-up also started the World Cup final in 2018.

Can't doubt the ambition from Riley McGree, but he drags his 30-yard shot well wide.

That's a very Australian name isn't it.

What you want to do straight away against a full-back is show him he's going to be in for a tough day - and that's what he did.

A French corner is flicked on and then cleared by Australia.

It is the start we expected from France. Try to make a statement by getting that early goal. I think we will see Australia defend really deep.

France are straight on the attack with Ousmane Dembele showing some trickery on the right before crossing for Kylian Mbappe on the other side but the PSG man can't do loads with it.

This included losing 1-0 against debutants Senegal in the opening game of the tournament.

Surely they'll make a better fist of defending the trophy, 20 years on?

Olivier Giroud's chances of becoming France's all-time top scorer during this World Cup has definitely been boosted by the injuries to Karim Benzema and Christopher Nkunku.
