You would imagine that Dundee would be happy if it is a stop-start game against St Johnstone at Dens Park.

A league-high 34% of Dundee's Premiership goals this season have come from set-pieces, excluding penalties (10/29), while their visitors have only scored four set-piece goals in the league this season - the fewest of any side.

If there is such a thing as an ideal time to start your second spell as caretaker manager, facing a side who have suffered five defeats in a row is surely it.

But former Hibs captain David Gray also has the task of lifting a team reeling from a triple body blow.

A league derby defeat by Hearts that ended their top-six hopes was followed by a Scottish Cup semi-final loss to the same rivals and the shock sacking of manager Shaun Maloney.

Under Jack Ross then Maloney, Hibs failed to beat St Mirren in three meetings this season, two draws being following by a 1-0 defeat at Easter Road in February.

That, though, came before Jim Goodwin left for Aberdeen, St Mirren have since won only once in eight outings under new manager Stephen Robinson and are now only six points clear of a relegation play-off spot as they host a side who have not lost in Paisley in six visits.

You would imagine that, with Dundee without a win in nine outings during which St Johnstone enjoyed three wins and two draws, the Perth side should arrive at Dens Park confident of delivering a killer blow to the home side's hopes of escaping automatic relegation.

However, Callum Davidson's side suffered a 7-0 thrashing away to leaders Celtic last time out that is potentially damaging psychologically as they look to narrow the six-point gap between themselves and Aberdeen and St Mirren above.

At the same time, Mark McGhee's men staged a spirited comeback from 2-0 down to draw away to neighbours United and narrow the gap at the bottom to five points.

Not only that, but after suffering early season defeats home and away to St Johnstone in League Cup and Premiership, the Dark Blues beat their Tayside rivals 1-0 at Dens Park in December before taking a point in a 0-0 draw in Perth in January.

As a 1-0 home defeat by Ross County ended their hopes last time out, Livingston were cruelly denied by a last-minute Motherwell equaliser that leaves David Martindale's side with just two wins in nine.

Now they and Aberdeen will prioritise picking up the points necessary to make sure they are not dragged into the relegation play-off spot, with the Dons six points clear of St Johnstone and Livi two better off.

Aberdeen won their two first meetings this season, including 2-0 at home in December, but Livi were 2-1 winners at home in their last match-up in February.

Will the Dons prevail? Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for Livi taking the points in the absence of the ill Martindale.

Who will clinch the final promotion play-off spot in the fourth tier is the big question as we head into the final two games.

Edinburgh City's 2-1 win over second-top Annan Athletic last night puts them in pole position, four points ahead of Stenhousemuir, who must take something from their game at home to Stranraer to take it to the final weekend.

Forfar Athletic need to upset champions Kelty Hearts away from home to overtake Annan.

Interim Hibernian manager David Gray tells BBC Scotland: "It's been a very difficult time for everyone at the football club. Its' never nice when people lose their jobs, especially when you're so close to them and work with them every single day.

"It's after two defeats as well. Boys are hurting from that anyway. Add in the disappointment from the changes in the week, it's not a nice situation. Ultimately, it's up to us as a squad and a staff to change it.

"It has to be a reaction from the weekend. I thought the performance was much better against Hearts in the second game. There's no point having good performances that don't marry up with the results."

Asked if he would like the job permanently, Gray adds: "As a manager, you know it's a results driven industry. Nothing surprises me with football. It's purely based on results and my opinion on it is irrelevant."

Airdrieonians need to win away to Clyde and hope Cove Rangers fail to beat visitors Dumbarton to prevent the Aberdeen side clinching the League 1 title and confirming their move up to the second tier for the first time in their history.

However, Clyde will have their own motivation to go out on a high at home after the club announced they are terminating their lease at Broadwood Stadium and moving out of Cumbernauld as they become Hamilton's tenants next season.

Other than that, it is just pride at stake with East Fife already dropping to League 2 and the promotion and relegation play-off places already settled.

With Kilmarnock having beaten second-top Arbroath last night to clinch the title and automatic promotion, attention in the second tier today turns to the race for the final play-off spot and the battle to avoid relegation.

If Raith Rovers lose away to Hamilton Academical, Partick Thistle will seal a promotion play-off spot by taking at least a point at home to Dunfermline Athletic.

The visitors need the points themselves in their three-way battle to avoid the drop, with bottom side Queen of the South needing a win over second-bottom visitors Ayr United to avoid automatic relegation.

If Queens win and Dunfermline lose, it's all down to next weekend, when those two sides meet at East End Park.

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "Nobody's been on a good run.

"It's important someone puts a good run together and there's no reason we can't. We've spent all week getting the boys confidence up, given them a system to play to and hopefully they take it on board.

"I've got the boys onside. They're good boys and we've got good players in the building. It's up to us to ignore the noise and try and perform."

As for Hibs caretaker manager David Gray, he adds: "We don't know what to expect in terms of what David will do, but we know we're in for a tough game."

Dundee manager Mark McGhee during the week had said he would not put his heating on and would go hungry before saying he'd accepted his squad's challenge to go naked for a week if they beat St Johnstone.

"I've tried this week to use a bit of psychology," he tells BBC Scotland. "Just to make the lads understand they have to sacrifice something to make a change.

"We're in the dark here. We don't get any coverage other than when you guys stand here before or after the game, otherwise no-one pays any attention to us. So I've tried to create a cup final atmosphere this week, a bit of activity around us.

"I've not used my heating this week, I have been on a strict diet, and I feel much better standing here and more deserving of a result."

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst tells Sky Sports: "We had to adjust the game plan. We started off really well and we were in control of the game.

"With the red card, we had to switch to a different way of playing. It worked out well. You need to make sure you still create the chances and the players did what we wanted really well."

On the Leon Balogun's red card and Juhani Ojala tackle: "They were two tackles both with intentions to win the ball. But the margins are really close and we need to accept the red we had. It was the decision of the referee, I concentrated more on how we had to play."
