Better from the Scots, though, as Stuart Armstrong makes a yard for himself with tidy feet and lets fly from 20 yards.

Blocked by the Armenia defence, however.

The Southampton man then races onto the ball down the left and looks to be tripped but the referee awards a goal kick to the hosts.

  5. McGregor calls for 'trust' in Clarkepublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Armenia v Scotland (17:00)

Birthday boy Callum McGregor, making his 63rd appearance of the season tonight, called for "trust" in boss Steve Clarke after a rough fortnight.

"The manager has done a lot of good work with this group of players," he said. "So it's important now we trust him and stand behind him.

"He's made a huge impact, getting us to our first tournament in 23 years and a play-off semi-final, which is the closest we've been to a World Cup for many, many years as well."

  7. Montenegrin man in the middlepublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Armenia v Scotland (17:00)

This evening's man with the whistle, Nikola Dabanovic, should be well known to Scottish football fans.

The 40-year-old Montenegrin referee took charge of Rangers' 1-1 draw away to Brondby in the Europa League group stage in November and Aberdeen's 1-0 qualifying defeat in Portugal by Sporting Lisbon in September 2020.

Previously, he took control of Celtic's 4-1 win over AIK in Sweden and Rangers' 1-1 draw away to Porto, both in 2019.

  8. 'Dublin defeat doesn't add pressure to tonight' - Clarkepublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Armenia v Scotland (17:00)

Despite a poor showing in Dublin, Scotland head coach Steve Clarke believes that shock defeat doesn't add any more pressure to tonight's clash.

"It was a little bit of a head scratcher," Clarke said of Saturday's game. "I don't think there is any more pressure on this game than there would be normally.

"But it is important in the context of the Nations League because we want to go to the September games with a realistic chance of topping the group.

"I hope the players play as well as they can because, if they play as well as they can play and take their A-game to the pitch, it is a game that we should win."

That result against the Republic was just unacceptable. But get a win tonight and it does give you hope going into the games in the autumn.

  11. Caparros not surprised by Scots' Dublin losspublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Armenia v Scotland (17:00)

Scotland's 3-0 defeat in Dublin did not come as a shock to Armenia head coach Joaquin Caparros, who suggested: "Each team can beat the other team and our group is very strong with very strong teams.

"We know Scotland are a very good team and very well prepared mentally and physically, but we will do our best to play with our heart and soul and use all of our knowledge to make our people happy."

Asked if his side would play as defensively at home as they did at Hampden, the Spaniard added: "It's very difficult to plan how you will play.

"The game itself will dictate whether we play attacking or defensive football. You will find out during the game."

Surprising that Hickey does not get the nod on either side. Disappointing that Souttar and Robertson don't make it. You would have liked your captain there after a difficult result last time out, but that group of players should have enough to get a result tonight.

'Why not Turnbull & Campbell?'published at 16:34 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Armenia v Scotland (17:00)

Alex: Why not David Turnbull and Allan Campbell? Campbell was outstanding for Luton all season.

Kid: I don’t hold out much hope. Scott McTominay is not a centre-back, Grant Hanley is too slow and Billy Gilmour is too lightweight. Hope I’m proved wrong!

Paul: Give John McGinn a break and give Turnbull a go! I like Nathan Patterson, but Anthony Ralston has deservedly claimed that jersey and should be starting. I like Che Adams too, but give Jacob Brown a run out.

Not a lot of optimism on our Twitter page...

  15. Will home & away sequence continue?published at 16:29 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Armenia v Scotland (17:00)

Scotland's away form and Armenia's at home are a mirror image.

The Armenians have won their last two home games, both 1-0 over Montenegro and Ireland, having previously gone three without victory.

Scotland have gone two away games without a win, drawing with Austria and losing to the Irish, following a trio of victories in Austria, Faroe Islands and Moldova.

  16. Last time against Armenia...published at 16:25 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Armenia v Scotland (17:00)

You only have to look back six days for the last meeting between these two.

It was a comfortable evening for Scotland as two headers from Anthony Ralston and Scott McKenna earned a straightforward victory.

It could, and should, have been more for Steve Clarke's men - and the travelling Tartan Army will be expecting the same at a minimum tonight.

It might be a different story, however, with the Armenians playing on their own patch...

With two games against Ukraine still to come, it's imperative Scotland take maximum points tonight to have a chance of finishing in top spot.

Even still, it's a big ask after a deflating defeat in Dublin at the weekend.

  20. Haroyan & Spertsyan return for Armeniapublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 14 June 2022

    Armenia v Scotland (17:00)

Having made eight changes for Saturday's 3-0 loss to Ukraine in Lodz, Joaquin Caparros makes another six, with Cadiz centre-back Varazdat Haroyan returning to the side.

Krasnodar's Eduard Spertsyan, who scored their winner against Ireland, is also back after being left out in Poland and is joined in midfield by Alashkert's Artak Grigoryan.

Vahan Bichakhchyan, who plays for Pogon Szczecin in Poland, comes in to partner Slovan Bratislava's Tigran Barseghyan up front, despite both being midfielders with their clubs.

Anorthosis Famagusta wing-back Hovhannes Hambardzumyan and Pyunik centre-back Arman Hovhannisyan also come into defence.
