    New Zealand 0-0 Wales

Rhiannon Roberts gallops forward on Wales' right and puts in an inviting cross, which is cleared to Angharad James and her first-time shot is deflected for a Welsh corner.

Like New Zealand's set-piece moments earlier, though, it's easily dealt with.

  2. Postpublished at 12 mins

    New Zealand 0-0 Wales

Some more hesitant defending from Wales as Hayley Ladd dithers on the ball in her own penalty area.

Gemma Evans bails her out with a good block to deny Annalie Longo, and New Zealand's subsequent corner comes to nothing.

New Zealand aren't passing too great at the moment.

It's a good chance for Wales' midfielders to win the first ball and keep that positive momentum going.

  4. Postpublished at 9 mins

    New Zealand 0-0 Wales

New Zealand have certainly settled the better of the two sides so far.

As Gwennan Harries has said on commentary, Wales have been a bit sloppy.

  5. Postpublished at 7 mins

    New Zealand 0-0 Wales

Sophie Ingle strides forward in central midfield and tries to find Natasha Harding on the right but the attack breaks down.

Former Wales striker on BBC Sport Wales

Wales were using the channels really well there, but they need to be ready for that ball across.

Rachel Rowe is so dynamic and strong, it's hard to get her off the ball.

  7. Postpublished at 5 mins

    New Zealand 0-0 Wales

    Chance for Wales!

Rachel Rowe bursts forward on the left and plays a low cross across the six-yard box, but it just evades the onrushing Ceri Holland.

  8. Postpublished at 4 mins

    New Zealand 0-0 Wales

A bit of a scare for Wales as Hayley Ladd misplaces a back-pass. No harm done in the end, though.

  9. Postpublished at 3 mins

    New Zealand 0-0 Wales

New Zealand enjoy the first spell of possession, passing it around in defence.

With temperatures reaching 27 degrees, it's a day to keep the ball.

  10. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

    New Zealand 0-0 Wales

A huddle and a few other pre-match pleasantries for both teams means the game is a tiny bit late getting started, but we're under way now with Wales' Angharad James taking kick-off.

Staying with that theme, Wales manager Gemma Grainger has been comparing notes with men's counterpart Robert Page as she plots her team's path to a first major tournament.

"Rob and I have got a really good relationship," Grainger said.

"In the last [men's] camp, I was in the camp and we talked about what he was preparing for. He is very open to sharing whatever that is and vice versa really.

"Being in and around Rob, the mentality he has, and even the players - we were training in the Vale last week and some of the men's players were around.

"It's a very natural environment for the men's and women's teams to interact. I think that is role-modelled by Rob and I because we are very much supporting each other."

  14. Wales women can follow men to reach World Cup, says Inglepublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

New Zealand v Wales (18:00 BST)

It's been a great month for Welsh football, with the men's national team qualifying for their first World Cup since 1958.

The women have yet to play at a major tournament, but are well-placed in their qualifying group, needing four points to secure second spot and a World Cup play-off.

Captain Sophie Ingle says her side are hoping to follow in the footsteps of Robert Page's men.

Wales' players have had to allocate an extra five minutes of preparation time for each of their training sessions since arriving in Spain last Wednesday - to put on sun cream.

And even though this game is an evening kick-off, the chances are the factor 50 will be doing the rounds once again in the Wales dressing room.

The heat may have an impact on tonight's match - but that may not be a bad thing when you consider that Wales' next World Cup qualifier takes place in Greece in early September.

As well as offering Gemma Grainger the chance to try out tactical plans and to give more experience to some of her younger players, the New Zealand friendly will give Wales an idea of what to expect in the late-summer Greek sunshine.

As for another stalwart of this Wales side, Natasha Harding has been speaking about her future - without giving much away.

The 33-year-old has been looking for a new club since leaving Reading at the end of last season.

She is expected to join another Women's Super League side and has been linked with the likes of Aston Villa and Leicester City.

"I signed for a club a few weeks ago, but I want to keep it to myself for a few more weeks," said Harding.

"It was all sorted quickly after I said I was leaving Reading. I had options and it all happened quickly."

  17. Team news - New Zealand make one changepublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

New Zealand v Wales (18:00 BST)

    Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales in Pinatar, Spain

New Zealand are looking for what would be a rare victory tonight, and boss Jitka Klimkova makes a solitary change to the team beaten 2-0 in Norway on Saturday.

Midfielder Malia Steinmetz comes in for Betsy Hassett, while Ali Riley and Ashley Ward are missing through injury.

New Zealand are ranked 22nd in the world, nine places above Wales.

Yet the Football Ferns have managed just one victory - plus one success on penalties after a draw with Belgium in the Algarve Cup - since losing 1-0 to Wales in a friendly in Cardiff in June 2019.

New Zealand: Esson, Anton, Bunge, Moore, Stott, Bowen, Chance, Steinmetz, Longo, Satchell, Wilkinson.

Subs: Alfeld, Nayler, Barry, Cleverley, A. Green, Hand, Hassett, Jale, Rennie, Rolston, Taylor.

  18. Wales star Fishlock restedpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

New Zealand v Wales (18:00 BST)

You may have noticed a big name missing from that Wales team: Jess Fishlock.

Don't worry, though, Wales' most-capped player is only being rested on this occasion.

It was announced earlier this month that Fishlock would be sitting out this game.

The OL Reign midfielder has not travelled with Wales to Spain, with the National Women's Soccer League season ongoing in the United State - Fishlock's team host North Carolina Courage on Friday.

  19. Team news - Grainger goes strongpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

New Zealand v Wales (18:00 BST)

    Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales in Pinatar, Spain

Wales manager Gemma Grainger suggested her team would be something of a "mix" in the build-up to this game, but in fact she has gone for what looks like her strongest available team.

There is just one change from the side which started Wales' last game, the World Cup qualifying win in Kazakhstan in April, with Carrie Jones replacing Jess Fishlock, who did not travel to Spain because of her hectic schedule with OL Reign.

Manchester United teenager Jones looks set to start in behind striker Kayleigh Green, while Angharad James wins her 98th cap in midfield.

Wales: O'Sullivan, Roberts, Ladd, Evans, Rowe, Ingle (capt), James, Jones, Harding, Holland, K. Green.

Subs: Clark, Soper, Middleton-Patel, Woodham, Wynne, J. Green, Hughes, Ward, Walters, Filbey, Bull, Williams, Morgan, Rogers, Francis-Jones.

¡Buenas tardes! Prynhawn da! Good afternoon!

Welcome to our live coverage of the friendly match between Wales and New Zealand in Pinatar in the south of Spain.

Wales are using this game as preparation for their final two World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Slovenia in September - as well as a bit of (very) warm weather training.

New Zealand, meanwhile, are already guaranteed their place at next year's World Cup as joint hosts alongside Australia.

Right then, let's get started with the team news.
