Livingston look very compact, throwing themselves into challenges and Joel Nouble is continuing to stretch Rangers. It's not like Rangers are moving the ball slow, they're moving it quick into the final third, but Livingston are right at it.

Livingston lead thanks to what is Joel Nouble's first goal for the club.

The big striker was a hero on loan at Arbroath in the first half of last season but was in and out of David Martindale's team after returning in January.

A sweet finish from Joel Nouble has the home fans going wild.

The striker shrugs off John Souttar all too easily to meet a simple ball over the top then lofts a shot over the top of Jon McLaughlin.

An early surprise to get the new term started!

  14. Livi boss wary of 'strongest Rangers team'published at 11:57 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    Livingston v Rangers (12:00)

Livingston manager David Martindale admits that his side's target is again to avoid relegation but expects "so much more".

Explaining why last season's top scorer, Bruce Anderson, is on the bench, he tells BBC Scotland: "Wee Brucie missed two months of last season and that was his first 90 minutes last week. If the game plan goes as I hope, it will be wee Brucie coming on to win the game."

Asked about today's opponents, he adds: "It is still a very good team. I think Rangers are stronger this season. I went to the West Ham game and I wish I hadn't - they gave West Ham a bit of a lesson.

"This is probably the strongest Rangers team I've seen since they've been back in the Premiership."

My one concern is that Rangers have a lot of options in the forward areas and where is the space for young talents like Alex Lowry to get a chance and flourish? B team football won't do him any favours.

  17. 'The players need to perform immediately'published at 11:49 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    Livingston v Rangers (12:00)

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been speaking to BBC Scotland's Jonathan Sutherland.

"We feel excited and ready to go," he said. "It's always good to start the season.

"I'm looking forward to playing for real and getting the first three points of the league.

"We had some changes [last season]. We sold Calvin (Bassey) and Joe (Aribo) and we invested in the squad, not just for this season but the future. I'm really happy with it.

"But they are playing for Rangers, they need to perform immediately. And that starts today."

On Jon McLaughlin getting the nod in goals: "He's going to start. We had to choose.

"We have quality goalkeepers in the squad. It's always difficult to choose but eventually we decided to start with Jon in goal."

    Livingston v Rangers (12:00)

A quick glance through the previous meetings of these two will fail to offer much inspiration for David Martindale's side.

Four times the clubs faced each other last season, with Rangers winning all of them. The aggregate score was 9-1...

You have to go back 15 meetings since Livi's last victory over the Ibrox side, that coming courtesy of a Dolly Menga strike.

Jon McLaughlin takes the gloves for Rangers' opener, with stalwart Allan McGregor among the substitutes.

McLaughlin has been a patient understudy at Ibrox over the last two seasons.

McGregor, 40, agreed a new deal in June quashing much speculation about retirement. Is the veteran being rested ahead of Tuesday's Champions League qualifier in Belgium or is this a changing of the guard?
