So then a Beckhamesque 50-yarder AND a missed pen - and that all adds up to second successive draw for Steve Bruce's West Bromwich Albion.

And four points from two games for Rob Edwards' Watford, leaving Blackburn Rovers with the only 100 per cent record in the Championship.

We will be back with Watford again on Friday night when they host another side with four points from two games - Vincent Kompany's Burnley.

Watford and Burnley accompanied each other down from the Premier League in May, so please come back and join us again on Friday for their reunion.

Until then, enjoy the rest of your night.

    That's it then. Game over.

Albion might have more cause to feel hard done by, getting done by such a frerakishly brilliant goal from Ismaila Sarr.

But there is simply no accounting for how, having unleashed so successfully from his own half, he then failed so limply from the penalty spot.

And really Watford's main man was keeper Daniel Bachmann for his string of saves, especially in the first half, from Albion marksman Karlan Grant who, another night, might have had a hatful.

Five minutes of added time to be played.

But, with the sub fest going on, you rather think both sides might have settled for a point here.

Matt Phillips' late arrival for Albion in place of Darnell Furlong is followed by Dan Gosling's introduction for goal hero (and penalty zero) Ismaila Sarr.

If Albion go on and get something out of tonight's game, as they should, it would maintain a growing stretch of results under Steve Bruce.

After losing four of his first five league games back in February, the Baggies had lost just three of their next 13 Championship going into this evening.

But . . . you can't help but think this game has still got a final twist or two to it.

Watford follow up with two of their own . . .

    William Troost-Ekong for Francisco Sierralta.

And Rey Manaj for Emmanuel Dennis.

Handsome Nick: Has there been another rule change? Last man makes a foul with no attempt to play the ball. Since he didn’t try to play the ball, isn’t it a red card? I recall David Luiz being sent off for Arsenal in a similar situation. Wasn’t even a yellow card here somehow.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:42 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    West Brom 1-1 Watford

    First tweak of the night?

    Steve Bruce goes first.

The returning Okay Yokuslu comes on for Jake Livermore.

Will Rob Edwards respond? Watford have already scored once and had a penalty come their way out of the blue. Have they got any more tricks up their sleeve?

They've been outplayed but they're still standing.

And Edwards does indeed bring on Pérez Martínez for Hassane Kamara.

    Ismaila Sarr's penalty is poor.

There's not enough pace or power on it.

He had to wait a long time to take it, but didn't look confident stepping up.

    Good grief.

    The keeper saved it.

It was one very poor penalty from Ismaila Sarr, low and feebly hit to David Button's left - and the grateful Albion keeper dived on it.

    Extraordinary.

My first impressions were that it wasn't a penalty.

It's a poor backpass from Conor Townsend - there's not a lot of contact.

But it is an infringement and he does catch him - it is a penalty.

That looks tough. Semi Ajayi's challenge on Ismaila Sarr.

He makes a motion towards Sarr's book, but he went down very easily.

Sarr netted from 55 yards earlier. 12 yards should be no problem!

    But . . .

Another close shave from an Albion corner as Conor Townsend's far-post header causes concern but, although Karlan Grant gets on the end of it, he is off balance and puts his own header wide.

  16. 'We're the Albion'published at 21:22 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    West Brom 1-1 Watford

The Baggies fans were suddenly in full voice then, with a deafening chorus of 'We're the Albion'.

The whole ground (other than the away fans obviously) seemed to be singing.

Their team are on top, they know it and the visiting yellow wall of 1,410 Watford fans in the 22,365 crowd has gone rather quiet.

Especially when Semi Ajayi safely shepherds out of play an attempted break down the left by Joao Pedro, who kicks the advertising hoarding in a show of frustrated petulance.

Watford need to change something, I believe.

If this carries on as it is, it's only a matter of time before West Brom score a second.

Albion win their first corner of the second half as they try to build on the momentum they ended the first half with.

From the left this time. Jed Wallace again. But, Karlan Grant's right-foot effort on the turn powers over the bar.

I'm sure you mean no disrespect to Accrington there, Wayne. But surely it was a chip, not a lob?
