  1. Carabao Cup second round draw on Wednesdaypublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    HT: West Brom 1-1 Watford

Tonight is the first of two fixtures at The Hawthorns this week for Albion, who are due to host their Carabao Cup first-round tie against Sheffield United on Thursday.

But they will already know their potential second-round opponents before that game even takes place.

The second round draw is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, following the conclusion of the Sheffield Wednesday-Sunderland tie.

The 13 Premier League Clubs not competing in European competition enter the cup at that stage, along with Watford and Burnley.

The EFL Cup remains regionalised in the first two rounds, split into northern and southern sections.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    West Brom 1-1 Watford

The half-time score now looks to have a fairer reflection to it.

Ismaila Sarr's outrageous halfway-line chip gave Watford a shock lead - his first goal since November!!! That 4-1 thumping the Horns enjoyed against Manchester United.

But, while Albion's equaliser was the least they deserved, the talk is still about that sky full of Sarr . . .

  5. 'Watford have been caught out'published at 20:52 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    West Brom 1-1 Watford

    Derek Payne
Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio

One ball has beaten the two centre-halves - that's not good enough at this level.

It's a good ball from Grady Diangana and a good finish by Karlan Grant but between Francisco Sierralta and Craig Cathcart they've been caught out.

West Brom have totally deserved that equaliser.

    Karlan Grant (45+2)

Well you cannot say that is not deserved.

Albion are level - and last term's top scorer Karlan Grant has his first goal of the season.

He powers into the box down the inside-left channel and steers a powerful right-foot finish beyond the this time helpess Daniel Bachmann.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    West Brom 0-1 Watford

Jayson Molumby in the book - the first of the night.

And four minutes of time added on.

Can only assume that is for all the time it takes Furlong to prepare for a throw-in, with all his hand wiping.

  8. Postpublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    West Brom 0-1 Watford

Another Darnell Furlong throw comes to nothing - and another. But, although Albion win a corner wide on the right from the second of them, that is cleared too.

  9. Postpublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    West Brom 0-1 Watford

Albion go close again as John Swift draws another save from Daniel Bachmann then stabs wide.

That followed a near miss at the other end when Dara O'Shea slid in to deny Watford a possible second.

  10. Postpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

Boos ringing round The Hawthorns after a coming-together between Jake Livermore and Ismaila Sarr.

    All sorted now though.

  11. Postpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    West Brom 0-1 Watford

Albion on the attack again and it's worth noting that Baggies keeper David Button is still patrolling 10 yards outside his own penalty area.

He's clearly not expecting a second Ismaila Sarr strike.

But it does make you think that it's maybe something that Watford had already noted and done some work on.

Also worth noting that when Beckham did the original, on 17 August 1996, Sarr wasn't even born.

As for Nayim (from the halfway line) . . . I'll let you look that one up at home!

    West Brom 0-1 Watford

Darnell Furlong's infamous long throw gets unfurled for the first time - with the help of a pink towel to help his traction.

And it almost gets a reward as Dara O'Shea wins the near-post header and flicks on well but it cannot find another Albion shirt and drifts across the face of goal.

Albion might have been stunned by that cheeky Watford goal - and their fans clearly have been - but they have responded well - and Karlan Grant steers a chance wide from Jed Wallace's left-wing cross.

And Grant is then denied again by a great cover tackle from Christian Kabasele.

What a goal, what a finish. That is some goal.

Watford have been under severe pressure, but the ball drops middle of pitch and Ismaila Sarr does that.

David Button has to look at his positioning.

Sarr delivers a powerful chip - I don't even know how you describe it.

    Ismaila Sarr (12 mins)

    Oh my stars!!!!

Ismaila Sarr has just done a David Beckham from the halfway line!!!

And Watford are sensationally one up.

He spotted David Button off his line and, from two yards inside his own half, drilled a low right-foot chip like a beautifully struck four iron which left the Albion keeper clutching at thin air.

Outrageous. Totally out of the blue. And undeserved you might say after Albion's lively start, but a moment of absolute class!

Daniel Bachmann doesn't like to come off his line - West Brom are putting men around him at set-pieces and Watford are struggling.

Watford just need to make sure the score stays at 0-0 for the first 15 minutes.

  18. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:07 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    Albion win the first corner.

Jed Wallace with it on the right, it's only half cleared, the ball falls to Darnell Furlong eight yards out and he hammers a superb right-foot volley, brilliantly tipped over by Watford keeper Daniel Bachmann, who then has to follow up with an alert second save to deny Karlan Grant on the turn.

Bright start from Brucie's Baggie Boys.

After a ludicrously noisy musical montage, followed by a lovely tribute to Albion legend Bobby Hope, who died over the summer, referee Tim Robinson blows the first whistle in the still glorious Midlands sunshine... and we're off.

  20. Tonight's teamspublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

West Bromwich Albion v Watford (20:00 BST)

Albion boss Steve Bruce makes one change from that season-opening draw at Boro.

Frontman Grady Diangana makes his first start since the final game of last season, coming in for Matt Phillips, who drops to the bench.

And there is a change there too, as Daryl Dike has dropped out with that untimely thigh strain.

Rob Edwards' Watford are unchanged following that opening-day win over Sheffield United.
