  2. 'We have to believe we are going to score goals' - Morisonpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

FT: Bristol City 2-0 Cardiff City

Cardiff City boss Steve Morison told Sky Sports: "It doesn't matter what I think about it. We haven't turned up in a derby.

"Maybe that's a bit harsh. It was always going to be tough for the first 20 minutes and I think it was for both teams.

"We've got to score. It's all about taking chances. You have to believe you're going to score and then they do.

"We've got to believe we are going to score goals, individuals have to be pre-planning goals in their heads.

    "I am really, really gutted.

"Poor performances in certain areas, today when we've been so good defensively, the front didn't help the back out today, we will work hard to improve.

"I don't want to talk about the referees, or I will get in trouble.

"A foul is a foul. It is a free-kick or a penalty, regardless of where it happens on the pitch."

  3. Pearson celebrates birthday with victorypublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

FT: Bristol City 2-0 Cardiff City

Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson told Sky Sports: "It was a good way to spend my 59th birthday, a really hard-fought game.

"We could have scored more, it was a really good performance and a positive day for us.

"I don't think we are a side that can sit back and absorb, we are much better when we press.

"It was a very honest performance. The team is developing an identity we can be proud of.

"In all the games we've played so far there have been some positive things.

"I am really pleased with how we played. It's great to have good young players as part of it.

"We have quite a nice blend. We don't have big numbers, but it's a really good day for us."

  4. Conway 'buzzing' to make fans happypublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

    FT: Bristol City 2-0 Cardiff

Flatmates and teammates Tommy Conway and Alex Scott have been speaking to Sky Sports.

Tommy Conway: "Winning is the most important thing, it doesn't matter if you play well and we are buzzing to make the fans happy.

"In the first couple of games we knew we were playing well, we needed to keep doing what we were doing.

"Hopefully we can keep getting the wins.

"It was a great ball for my goal, luckily I was able to get my head on it."

Alex Scott: "It is my 19th birthday today and that was definitely the best way to celebrate, that's the biggest present I could get.

"Tommy is my best mate, so it was great he could get the goal, because all his family are here.

"We have strikers out there who we know will score goals.

"We want to push for promotion and we are confident we can do it."

I saw Jaden Philogene and Rubin Colwill really impact that game when they came on, so they will be knocking on the door for a start in the next game.

On the whole Steve Morison will be really disappointed with the performance in terms of matching the intensity and aggression of the opposition, they never really did that and that didn't allow them to get a foothold in the game.

    That's it!

Bristol City deservedly take the three points, they've now won three in a row against the Bluebirds.

The Severnside bragging rights go to the English side of the M4.

Stick with us for some reaction.

Nakhi Wells is off, Timm Klose is on.

Bristol City are really Klose to three points now.

Sometimes the quality and all those things goes out the window in games like this. You have to match the intensity and the aggressive nature of the opposition and Bristol City have won in that department.

Bristol City will have a lot of Premier League scouts at their ground this season.

They almost went clear again, but Ryan Allsop was alert to the danger.

I know Bristol City fans have their guard up about throwing away leads, but today is not going to be one of those days.

    Cardiff look beaten.

Hard to see a grandstand finish here, but we will have five minutes of time added on.

There is going to be many more teams this season that do this kind of thing to Cardiff City, look to be aggressive, press from the front and really test their new style of play.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 87 mins

    Bristol City 2-0 Cardiff City

Han-Noah Massengo goes off for Kane Wilson.

    Massengo has been outstanding today.

Him and Conway have been the difference, for me.

  15. Postpublished at 85 mins

    Bristol City 2-0 Cardiff City

Cardiff's new formation is "chuck it in the mixer" and get plenty of bodies in attacking positions.

They are going to be in trouble on the counter and Chris Martin already tests them, but can't get his feet quite right.

  16. SUBSITUTIONSpublished at 83 mins

I've done too many Coldplay references about Chris Martin over the years.

It's been the adventure of a lifetime.

    More changes for Bristol City.

Andy King is on for Joe Williams who has just been booked.

Also, Mahlon Romeo goes off for Kion Etete.

Cardiff's first sub, was, as I should have pointed out, a concussion change.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 80 mins

Joe Williams goes into the book.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 78 mins

    Bristol City 2-0 Cardiff City

The red-hot Tommy Conway is replaced by not-Coldplay's Chris Martin.

    Conway was absolutely electric today.

  19. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 77 mins

    Bristol City 2-0 Cardiff City

Nakhi Wells does fine work and Andreas Weimann thinks he's made it 3-0, but he's a yard or so offside.

Bristol City's front two have caused Cardiff issues all afternoon.

  20. Postpublished at 76 mins

    Bristol City 2-0 Cardiff City

Jaden Philogene cuts in from the left and has time to pick his shot, but he drags the ball well wide.

    Cardiff are lacking in cutting-edge.

This game has made that fact more evident.
