After dumping out German giants Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade from the Europa League last season, Rangers fought back from first-leg defeats to reach the showpiece final in Seville.

Braga and RB Leipzig beat Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side 1-0 before both sides were swatted aside in a cauldron of noise at Ibrox.

Another night like that is required this evening...

• Union are playing in the competition for the first time after, like Rangers, finishing runners-up in their domestic league last season.
• After their 2-0 first-leg loss to Union in Leuven, Rangers now have a record of eight wins, one draw and two defeats against Belgian opponents in European competition.
• The Ibrox outfit have only once lost to a Belgian side on aggregate - a 2-0 home win at Ibrox in 1962 failing to claw back a 4-1 first-leg deficit against Standard Liege in the European Cup quarter-finals.
• Rangers have twice before defeated Belgian sides by more than two goals at Ibrox - 5-2 wins over Anderlecht in 1959 and Royal Antwerp in 2021.
• Rangers have twice failed to win by at least two goals at home to a Belgian side - beating Club Bruges 2-1 in the Champions League group stage in 1991 and Standard Liege 3-2 in the Europa League group stage in 2020.
• Union have only played one previous away leg in Europe - losing 1-0 to Juventus (2-0 on aggregate) in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup first round in 1964-65.

If Union make it through tonight, it'll be their first victory ever in a European tie. Their only previous attempt came 58 years ago, losing to Juventus.

Based on their European run last season, you saw the impact the crowd have when Rangers start fast and aggressive.

They are at their best when they are on the front foot, when they are getting in the opposition's face, making them turn the ball over, getting the ball back and then playing quickly and attacking their goal.

But I wouldn't expect anything else than a real solid defensive unit from Union SG on Tuesday. They have a two-goal lead to protect and Rangers are going to have to work for it.

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst tells BBC Scotland that Ryan Kent could be the difference for his side tonight.

“He's the player who gives us another dimension today, which we missed last week," he says. "I'm happy for all of us tonight [that he's back].

“Scotty [Arfield] brings a lot of energy to the team and I think he's a player who can pop up in the box at the right moment and we need numbers in the box."

On what his side needs to do differently from last week: “The overall performance needs to be better. We always have support here at home that will drive us and push us.

"We need to do something today to make sure we are in a good position to go through. We need a big performance and big players."

Putting it simply, a whole lot went wrong for Rangers.

The Ibrox side were well below par as a first-half strike by Teddy Teuma was followed by a controversial penalty by Dante Vanzeir.

Rangers were unlucky to concede the spot kick, but they were very, very fortunate to only come away with a two-goal defeat.

As Kenny says, there must be a huge improvement tonight from Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men.

Union head coach Karel Geraerts was reportedly left angry after his side dropped to 11th in the Belgian top flight on Saturday after a 3-0 defeat by Mechelen.

He had made seven changes from the side that defeated Rangers last week but has returned to the exact line-up that earned a 2-0 first-leg win.

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has made three changes to the side that started Saturday's win over Kilmarnock.

Key winger Ryan Kent returns to the XI after missing two games with injury as Borna Barisic and Scott Arfield are also included.

Out go Ridvan Yilmaz, Steven Davis and Scott Wright, while Alfredo Morelos takes his place on the bench after his goalscoring cameo at the weekend.
