  1. Cheers for nowpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

You can catch all of the action from today on Sportscene at 19:30 on BBC Scotland.

There are some cracking goals and several contentious incidents for the team on the famous couches to discuss.

Tomorrow, it's Celtic v Hearts, with the champions looking to take advantage of Rangers dropping points at Easter Road.

  2. Martindale 'can't wait for VAR' after penalty awardpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

    FT: Motherwell 1-0 Livingston

Livingston manager David Martindale is unhappy with the penalty award which led to his side's defeat.

Cristian Montano was penalised for a handball, with Kevin van Veen scoring the spot kick. Dylan Bahamboula was also sent off for two yellow cards 12 minutes after coming on, although Martindale said he would need to see the second booking again.

Martindale tells BBC Scotland: "I've watched it back [the penalty award], I need to be really careful what I say. I just can't wait until we get VAR because that decision has went against us - I don't think it's a penalty. The players are all adamant it wasn't a penalty. There was a delay from the officials as well and I thought they were debating if it was a corner or not.

"Did we do enough to win the game? I don't think we did in all honesty. I think Motherwell shaded the game. But if we've lost the game to a bad officiating error it's really disappointing."

  3. 'Nowhere near good enough' - Rosspublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

FT: Dundee United 0-3 St Mirren

Dundee United manager Jack Ross tells BBC Scotland: “[That was] Way, way, way below acceptable in terms of performance and the manner of the goals that we conceded. I think that’s the big thing about it.

“We didn’t do anything near enough to win, we deservedly got beat and deserve all the criticism that will follow and fall on my shoulders because it was not good enough in all aspects of play.

“At the moment we’re not giving ourselves a platform in terms of defending properly as a whole team, we’re not doing that.

"The fans have every right to be critical because the results we produced in the last three games have been nowhere near good enough, so there is no issue with supporters voicing criticism, anger, frustration and disappointment."

  5. 'Red card all day long' for Callachan - McInnespublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

    FT: Ross County 1-0 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes tells BBC Sportsound: "We were the far better team in the second-half. I enjoyed watching us get to the edge of their box time and time again.

"Any game of football is won or lost in both boxes. We would have won today, if we were better in their box. There was loads of efforts and decent moments. In between the boxes we were fine but ultimately, we didn't do well in both boxes.

"At the very least, we should have come away with a 0-0. If we defend one last lump up the park... We weren't strong enough to deal with that and that was a real sickener for me.

"The narrative today should have been about the lack of cutting edge or will to stick the ball over the line. Now, we'll talk about not keeping a clean sheet."

On the first of Ross Callachan's two bookings, he adds: "For me, if the officials see it as I saw it - it is a red card. It's two-footed, it's a lunge. If that's not a red card, God help us. Between the four officials, they should have seen it. It's a red card all day long."

  6. Davidson rues Clarkson's 'moment of class'published at 17:44 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

    FT: St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeen

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson: "I thought first half we had a real go. I was pleased with the performance and, until the goal, I didn't think there was a lot to separate the teams.

"A moment of class really separated the teams. After that I thought Aberdeen sat in well and make it hard for us to break them down and countered.

"I'm disappointed for the players, they gave me everything."

  7. Mackay thrilled by Ross County spiritpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

    FT: Ross County 1-0 Kilmarnock

Ross County manager Malky Mackay tells BBC Sportsound: "It was a good win on a real hard fought day, which we knew would be the case. Derek (McInnes) came with a physical, big team and we knew it would be a challenge.

"We showed real spirit after the man got sent off, to not sit in, to know we would get an opening and get the goal."

On Ross Callachan's first yellow card, he says: "It looked like a booking for me. It's a rough, tough Premiership game. It was a sending off because he handled it (for the second yellow). There was a challenge near the end where one of their players elbowed Callum Johnson in the face. That looked like a sending off to me.

"It was one of those days where there were a lot of challenges going on that could have gone either way."

  8. Hammell 'proud' of first 'official' home winpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

    FT: Motherwell 1-0 Livingston

Motherwell manager Steven Hammell tells BBC Scotland: "We did okay, we were good, you could see what we were trying to do, but we didn't have enough speed and didn't cause them enough problems,

"The the boys were told at half-time we needed a reaction. Goals change games, but even before the goal I don't think Liam Kelly had a save to make.

"It's a good start. We realised how important it was to win the game, it gives us momentum going into the game against Kilmarnock.

"To get a home win in my first official home game, it's something to be proud of."

  9. 'A lot to build on for St Mirren' - Robinsonpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

FT: Dundee United 0-2 St Mirren

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: “We’re very pleased with the performance and we were very disciplined without the ball and that’s the key to not conceding goals.

“We’ve got a real threat going forward in our two midfielders, Baccus and O’Hara, and our centre-forwards are a handful for people.

“We’ve worked on it and worked on it over the pre-season period and the cup games were maybe a bit false for us in that we had too much possession for us which sounds strange maybe. But we’re very good without the ball and we hit teams on the counter. I thought today we were magnificent.

“We’re really disciplined and I believe we have been in all four games. We can’t get too carried away, it’s a great result and a good performance but it’s a lot to build on."

  10. Clarkson goal 'deserves to win any game' - Goodwinpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

    FT: St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin has been hailing Leighton Clarkson's brilliant winner.

"The goal is a bit of quality and deserves to win any game," he told BBC Scotland.

"He's already scored a wonder goal on his debut a couple of games ago and backed it up with a bit of individual brilliance.

"It's the reaction from a defeat which says a lot about the group. They trained brilliantly all week and applied themselves brilliantly today from start to finish."

  16. FULL-TIME - St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeenpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 20 August 2022

Leighton Clarkson's rip-roaring free kick from 30 yards gives Aberdeen their second league win of the season. It is well worth watching on Sportscene later.

It could have been more, but Jim Goodwin will settle for his fourth victory in 15 Premiership matches.

Same old struggles for Saints in front of goal. Very little creativity.
