Can't help but feel a bit deflated with that. Even more so given it came from a Dutch counter-attack.

Just those two points in their own way though prove how well Scotland applied themselves tonight up against a real, top quality European side.

Hope - aye, that word again - has to be high after what we've just been served up.

Join us again on Tuesday for Scotland's final World Cup qualifying match against Faroe Islands.

And of course, we'll be here bright and early tomorrow to build up to tomorrow's full Scottish Premiership card.

    See you then, troops.

    FT: Netherlands 2-1 Scotland

Up next for Scotland on Tuesday is their final World Cup qualifying match against the Faroe Islands.

Pedro Martinez Losa's side have already secured the play-off position in the group, but gathering momentum for those crucial ties was the aim of tonight, and will be on Tuesday no doubt.

For the Netherlands, it's a winner takes all clash against Iceland next week, with a confirmed place in the World Cup at stake.

  3. FULL-TIME Netherlands 2-1 Scotlandpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

A win for the Netherlands on home soil in head coach Andries Jonker's first game in charge.

Vivianne Miedema notched up international goal number 95 but it was quickly cancelled out by Claire Emslie's cool finish.

The Dutch remained in pursuit of a second, but the Scots remained robust and worked their way into the game in the second half.

Minutes before the final whistle, substitute Fenna Kalma scored the winner on her debut.

A battling performance from Scotland on a night they can take so many positives.

    Fenna Kalma

    Ah, that's cruel.

There's not a lot more Lee Gibson can do.

She palms the initial strike onto the crossbar but Fenna Kalma - like every good striker - is waiting for the rebound, on the line and she simply touches it over.

    That'll hurt Scotland.

Caroline Weir is off for Lucy Graham.

A cameo for the Evertonian but a wise move from Pedro Martinez Losa, just to take the sting out of this affair for a few seconds.

He must be chuffed with what he's seen tonight.

And just like that, that's the quality in this Netherlands side.

I'm still in awe at the 'what if' a few seconds ago, the Dutch meanwhile are up the other end and shaking the woodwork.

Victoria Pelova's sweet strike has Lee Gibson rooted to her spot.

She can only watch on as her post saves her.

    Netherlands 1-1 Scotland

Scotland playing out from the back with ease, working away in the midfield, picking out forwards with delightful passes, before it falls to Caroline Weir on the edge of the box...

I nearly couldn't cope, that was a sensational passage of play, nearly ended perfectly.

    The strike just skimmed wide.

Probably for the best, I was about to completely lose it there...

A superb hand from Lee Gibson diverts the ball, directly from a corner, away from her back-post.

Powerful palm from the City shot-stopper.

Sophie Howard commandingly controlling her box.

Scotland riding the wave of Dutch dominance well in this period.

  10. CLOSE!published at 73 mins

    Netherlands 1-1 Scotland

Claire Emslie so nearly had her second of the night!

I'm not sure how much contact Emslie does get on it, but she chucks herself at a bouncing ball in the six yard box but is denied by solid goalkeeping from Daphne van Domselaar who throws herself up against the effort.

Backtracking this time courtesy of Erin Cuthbert.

The hosts are being limited to hitting Scotland on the counter-attack right now, which in itself shows how strong Scotland have been in this second period.

Fenna Kalma sneaks her way into teeing up a shot but Cuthbert is on hand to disturb things.

Cool, calm and collected Caroline Weir doing her defensive duties as the Dutch turn up the heat in Zwolle.

Right, those changes for the hosts... I hope:

Vivianne Miedema, Danielle van de Donk, Stefanie van der Gragt, Jill Roord, Jackie Groenen and Kerstin Casparij are all off.

Marisa Olislagers, Damaris Egurrola, Esmee Brugts, Aniek Nouwen, Victoria Pelova nd Fenna Kalma are all on.

    Phew.

Christie Muuray and Abi Harrison are on for Lana Clelland and Martha Thomas of Scotland.

The Dutch have made six changes, too. Will bring you those in a minute once I've caught up...

  15. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Netherlands 1-1 Scotland

Vivianne Miedema latches on to a defence-splitting pass - quite literally.

Lee Gibson is well, well off her line and you just think the Arsenal striker is going to dink it over.

But instead, she fires right into Gibson and is further unable to bury away the rebound.

First let off in this second half, for sure.

Emma Mitchell, married and a mum since she was last kitted out in a Scotland shirt.

She hasn't lost it, though. So good to see her back.

Jill Roord has a go from the edge of the box, but her effort is tame and trickles by the post, watched confidently by Lee Gibson.

    Netherlands 1-1 Scotland

Scotland spraying the ball around in much neater fashion at the start of this second half.

Caroline Weir getting touches on the ball is always a good thing, eh?

  19. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Netherlands 1-1 Scotland

Scotland try their hand at a short corner, clearly right off the training ground.

Even from this untrained eye, I can assure you that's not what was supposed to happen... it barely made its way into the box.

Almost as if the sides heard me huffing and puffing, we're back under way.

Half-time substitutions for Scotland see Kelly Clark and Jen Beattie depart for Emma Mitchell and Rachel Corsie.
