    Luxembourg 1-2 Northern Ireland

It was a case of 'job done' for Northern Ireland in Luxembourg this evening.

They were dominant in the second half, after a scrappy opening 45 minutes, and had to recover from a late equaliser by the hosts before securing a 2-1 victory against 10 players - with Amy Thompson sent off after her celebrations of her goal.

It's next stop Latvia for Northern Ireland as they complete their World Cup qualifying campaign on Tuesday night, and we will have a live stream of that game as well.

    Catch you then.

"I think the positives for Northern Ireland are that we scored two goals away from home. It's unfortunate that we conceded but two minutes later we have scored again and that shows good leadership. They have shown good character to come away with three points which is the main thing."

    Luxembourg 1-2 Northern Ireland

It wasn't pretty for Northern Ireland but it is an away win and three more qualification points in the bag.

The visitors took the lead through a second-half Sarah McFadden header, which was equalised by Amy Thompson - who was dramatically sent off immediately after for appearing to be shown a yellow card for her celebration.

Kenny Shiels' side were only level for a few minutes before Rebecca McKenna restored their lead with a fine low finish to claim the 2-1 victory.

That's how you react to being pegged back!

Rebecca McKenna restores Northern Ireland's lead just a few minutes after Luxembourg had equalised.

Julie Nelson strode out of defence confidently and delivered a clever pass into McKenna in the box. Her control was sound and her low, rasping drive arrowed beyond Schlime and into the bottom corner.

A fine goal against the 10 players of Luxembourg.

    Luxembourg 1-1 Northern Ireland

Wow. Huge drama as Amy Thompson equalises for Luxembourg and is sent off immediately after.

It looked like it was a second yellow card for the goalscorer as she seemed to briefly go to take her top off as she celebrated the goal, bringing her a second yellow card.

It was a few shocking errors from Northern Ireland that gave Thompson her opportunity to score. They tried playing it from the back but Julie Nelson was dispossessed by Thompson, whose shot should have been comfortably by Jackie Burns but she let it go through her hands and in.

That was a chance for Kirsty McGuinness as a cutback from the right falls to her in the box but she miskicks her shot.

Seconds after Demi Vance has a go from long range but it's straight at the keeper.

We're going into the last 15 minutes and Northern Ireland are looking comfortable.

Luxembourg have barely threatened since the break, but the visitors would still love that security of a second goal.

Another cross into the Luxembourg box, this time from Kirsty McGuinness, causes problems and wins Northern Ireland a corner, but they are unable to capitalise on it.

Her central defensive partner has scored a header from a Demi Vance corner - and Julie Nelson has just come close to doing the same.

The Crusaders defender met the cross well but her effort went just wide of the post.

Caragh Hamilton's pace and power is causing the home defence plenty of problems down the right.

Luxembourg didn't know how to deal with her at the start of the half so they've just resorted to kicking her instead.

We've heard plenty about time wasting in the Premier League this week and the home defence are certainly trying to slow things down.

    Luxembourg 0-1 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland come so close to doubling their lead.

Nadene Caldwell plucked the ball out of the air with a lovely first touch before getting a left-foot shot away from the edge of the box which just grazes the outside of the post.

The visitors are really turning the screw and there's no doubt the three half-time subs have made an impact.

This is so much better from Northern Ireland in the second half.

A good break down the left almost sets up a chance for Caitlin McGuinness before Nadene Caldwell fires just wide from the follow up.

    Luxembourg 0-1 Northern Ireland

There's the opener for Northern Ireland - and it's Sarah McFadden with the goal.

It was a corner from the right by Demi Vance and experienced defender McFadden rose to meet it and plant a fine header past Schlime and into the corner.

Simple but effective from Northern Ireland.

  17. Big chance missedpublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

    Luxembourg 0-0 Northern Ireland

That's a big, big change missed for Northern Ireland.

The build-up was lovely as Nadene Caldwell flicked on a Demi Vance pass into the path of Caitlin McGuinness who was through on goal.

She had plenty of time but her side-foot shot lacked power and was straight at the keeper, who made an easy save.

  18. Triple change for NIpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

    Luxembourg 0-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland manager Kenny Shiels has not hung, making three changes at the break.

Caragh Hamilton, Rebecca Holloway and Nadene Caldwell are on, with Louise McDaniel, Joely Andrews and Chloe McCarron making way.

Looks like a possible change of shape, maybe to a 4-4-2, for the visitors.
