Two in two minutes as Watford rattle the post again.

This time it's a strike from Ken Sema, although credit should go to Josef Bursik who gets a hand on the ball and directs it away from the net and off onto the post.

Almost, almost 2-0 to Watford and Ismaila Sarr who hits the post with a header.

It's Hassane Kamara again who sets him up, doing well to hold off Stoke players in the corner before drilling in a cross. Sarr beats Josef Bursik but the upright denies him.

This is a decent spell for Stoke who are at least keeping the ball more inside Watford's half as they look for an equaliser.

Liam Delap breaks through on goal after a flick on from Dwight Gayle. Daniel Bachmann comes out and collects it but he's hurt in the process. It looked like Delap stepped on him as they both went for the ball.

All the talk about Slaven Bilic this week that it's easy to forget that Stoke manager Alex Neil is relatively new in his job, too.

Stoke enjoy a spell around the Watford box, winning two corners, but both come to nothing as the ball bounces around the box and back out again.

Stoke's Tariqe Fosu-Henry is the first player to go in the referee's book for bringing down Hassane Kamara.

The first sniff at goal from Stoke as Aden Flint wins a free header at the far corner from a Will Smallborne cross.

He can't get the ball on target though and it rolls wide.

It's been a cagey start so far and even the crowd inside the bet365 Stadium seems fairly muted.

Ismaila Sarr combines with Mario Gaspar to break down towards the right corner, but Morgan Fox is there to hold off his run.

A flash of danger for Watford as the ball is whipped forward over the top and Dwight Gayle almost gets on the end of it.

Keeper Daniel Bachmann beats him to it though.

Slaven Bilic has changed the formation of his Watford side today, with four at the back, five in midfield and one up front.

The visitors give away an early free-kick though and Stoke get an chance to launch the ball forward into their box.

Manager Alex Neil has handed Dujon Sterling his first Stoke start, after he signed for the team from Chelsea on transfer deadline day. Josh Laurent is the only other change for the team's starting 11 today as he comes into the midfield.

Slaven Bilic has made four changes to the Watford starting 11 that drew with Sunderland two weeks ago.

Luigi Gasper, Ismaïla Sarr, Christian Kabasele and Francisco Sierralta all come in, while Kortney Hause, Craig Cathcart, William Troost-Ekong and Joao Pedro are all unavailable due to injury.

Watford: Bachmann, Mario, Sierralta, Kabasele, Kamara, Choudhury, Kayembe, Sarr, Asprilla, Sema, Davis.

Neither Stoke or Watford have set the Championship alight yet this season.

Stoke are in 17th after last weekend's 0-0 draw with QPR and have won only once at home - their opening game on 6 August against Blackpool.

Watford, meanwhile, are similarly hovering around mid-table and looking for their first win in four matches.

They also will want to end a nine-match winless run on the road that stretches back to March and into last season.

There's only one place to start today and that's with Watford, who saw another manager bite the dust when Rob Edwards was relieved of his duties on Monday just 138 days after being given the job.

Despite there being a sense that things might be different at Vicarage Road when Edwards became boss in May, and that Watford's owners were looking for stability after years of hiring and firing managers, he quickly went the way of his predecessors.

After only 10 league matches - three wins, five draws and two defeats - Edwards was shown the exit door and former West Ham and West Brom boss Slaven Bilic given the job instead, staggeringly becoming Watford's ninth permanent manager since 2018.

Bilic has been out of contract since leaving Chinese club Beijing Guoan in January and today is the first match of his tenure at Watford.

It's been quite the week for today's visitors, Watford, who sacked manager Rob Edwards on Monday after only 11 games in charge and swiftly appointed Slaven Bilic in his place.
