  1. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

    Preston 0-0 West Brom

    Under way at Deepdale!

Both of these sides could do with a win. Can West Brom power up the table or are Preston going to put their poor form of late behind them?

GOAL: Rotherham United 1-0 Millwallpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

Dan Barlaser steps up and while Millwall keeper George Long goes the right way he's got no chance of stopping his strike.

That's Barlaser's first goal of the season and the perfect start for new Rotherham boss Matt Taylor.

    Hull 0-0 Wigan

A quiet start in this one.

Both sides have seen attacks upfield penalised for offside.

Firstly Will Keane is flagged after working on to Max Power's through ball for Wigan while Oscar Estupinan is judged to be offside for Hull soon after.

  4. PENALTY TO ROTHERHAMpublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

    Rotherham 0-0 Millwall

Rotherham break into the box and Ben Wiles is brought down by Jake Cooper.

There was a period of reflection around the grounds before kick-off, to remember those that died in a crush at an Indonesian football match over the weekend.

At least 125 people lost their lives.

    Rotherham United 0-0 Millwall

Big hill for Millwall to climb tonight at Rotherham, if the stats have anything to say. They're looking for their first league win on the road this season and also their first away win since March.

So far, not much of note to report in the opening few minutes.

  7. Postpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

    Watford 0-0 Swansea

Early days but a slow start from Watford, who're sitting deep and inviting Swansea forward.

The Swans looking sharp and moving the ball around quickly in these opening few minutes.

  8. Postpublished at 19:50 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

    Hull 0-0 Wigan

Kick-off at the MKM Stadium as Hull take on Wigan.

A fixture which most recently took place here in Super League rather than the Championship.

Wigan did beat Hull 8-0 in July 2020. In football, that is. It wasn't the result with two unconverted tries..

    Right then.

Let's get going. We're now getting under way in tonight's fixtures in the Championship.

  10. Two out-of-form teams meet in late kick-offpublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

Preston v West Brom (20:00 BST)

Tonight's late Championship fixture pits two out-of-form sides against each other.

Preston are winless in their past six home games and have failed to score in five of those matches.

Meanwhile, West Brom are yet to win away from home in the Championship so far this season.

It's the longest the Baggies have gone without a first away league win of the season since 2006-07. Ouch.

But before we get to tonight's schedule, we should probably recap the headlines from last night.

League leaders Sheffield United suffered their first home defeat of the season to QPR, with Chris Willock's goal giving them a 1-0 win at Bramall Lane.

That result meant second-placed Norwich could have gone top, but they were held 1-1 by fellow high-flyers Reading.

A super-strike from Mark Harris saw Cardiff beat Blackburn, with Rovers missing a penalty right at the death in injury time, while Luton and Huddersfield played out an entertaining 3-3 draw.

Bristol City were held to a 0-0 draw at home to bottom of the table Coventry, as were Sunderland who endured their second goalless draw at the Stadium of Light in three days to Blackpool.

  12. Can new Watford boss Bilic make it two on the bounce?published at 19:40 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

    Watford v Swansea (19:45 BST)

Not much separates these two teams, who could both break into the Championship's top six with a win at Vicarage Road tonight.

Eighth-placed Watford enter the game full of confidence following a 4-0 drubbing of Stoke at the weekend, to give new manager Slaven Bilic the perfect start to his tenure.

The Hornets have only lost once in their past five games.

The darker nights and cooler evenings seem to suit 12th-placed Swansea who are finding their feet as the colder months approach.

There's no doubt the Swans have had a good rummage around the kit locker and found their shooting boots, after they fired home six goals in the last two games.

Although Swansea do have a bad habit of conceding late goals which result in draws or last minute defeats, they can take confidence from the fact that they've earned points from four of their five away games this season.

  13. Taylor takes charge at Rotherhampublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

    Rotherham v Millwall (19:45 BST)

After first being linked to the job last week, the Millers finally appointed Matt Taylor as their new boss just 24 hours ago, following the departure of Paul Warne to Derby.

The 40-year-old has a bright reputation and at Exeter, the style of football and young players he fostered saw the team win promotion to League One last season.

Rotherham, like Taylor, are a team adjusting to Championship life and 'inconsistent' could best sum up their start to the campaign.

Equally inconsistent are opponents Millwall, who are yet to win away from home this season.

  14. Middlesbrough go on without Wilderpublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

    Middlesbrough v Birmingham (19:45 BST)

The aim was to challenge for promotion this season, but 11 games in and Middlesbrough languish in 22nd having won only two of their 11 Championship matches.

Saturday's defeat to bottom side Coventry was the final straw that saw manager Chris Wilder let go.

Goalkeeping coach Leo Percovich has been placed temporarily in charge while the search goes on for a permanent boss.

Tonight they host Birmingham, a team who will come to the Riverside buoyed by the fact they've won their past two league meetings there.

  15. Managerless Hull take on Wiganpublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

    Hull v Wigan (19:45 BST)

No, not a Super League fixture. Hull take on Wigan having won both league meetings in the most recent season these two sides met - in 2020-21 in League One.

The Latics are unbeaten in 13 midweek Championship games heading into tonight's encounter.

And one of those wins in midweek came against Hull in July 2020, when they won 8-0.

Hull are without a manager after the sacking of Shota Arveladze last Friday. They were then defeated by Luton, but can they bounce back tonight?

  16. In-form Burnley look to take advantage of travelling Potterspublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

    Burnley v Stoke (19:45 BST)

Burnley have made a terrific start to the season in their return to the Championship, following relegation from the Premier League.

Despite missing out on three points at the weekend - when they conceded a last minute equaliser against Cardiff City - they're unbeaten in their past eight league games and scored 16 goals in that run.

Not too shabby for Vincent Kompany's Clarets, who could move up to fourth with a win at Turf Moor tonight.

The situation at Stoke is a little more bleak and injuries have certainly played their part with five key players sidelined, none more important than midfielder Jordan Thompson - who suffered a facial injury while on international duty with Northern Ireland.

The Potters have just one win under new manager Alex Neil, who took over at the end of August, and his side are coming off their biggest defeat since returning to the Championship after their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Watford.

Reading the tea leaves one would think the in-form Clarets at home on a cool and rainy Lancashire night would have no problem dispatching a visiting side in search of answers. But it's worth noting that Stoke have earned more points and scored more goals away from home so far this season.

  17. Tonight's fixturespublished at 19:24 British Summer Time 5 October 2022

Hello and welcome to our second night of midweek fixtures from the Championship, where the manager merry-go-round seems to have been spinning quicker than ever.

Tonight's six matches features two teams without a permanent manager, one appointed a week ago, another just 24 hours ago and one under increasing pressure.

Hull remain without a manager after Shota Arveladze was let go five days ago, as do Middlesbrough - who relieved Chris Wilder of his duties on Monday.

Slaven Bilic is only nine days into his tenure at Watford and takes charge of his first home game, while Rotherham begin life under Matt Taylor, who was named as their new boss just yesterday.

Then there's Steve Bruce, who's coming under increasing scrutiny at West Brom with his side sliding down the table and winless in six.

That should be enough talking points for one night, right?
