It's been a day which proves once again just how competitive the Championship is.

Top two Sheffield United and Norwich both suffered defeats, by Stoke and Preston respectively, and there was also a fine win for Blackpool over Watford.

The results at the top mean the table has got an awful lot tighter as the likes of Burnley, Swansea and Blackburn push themselves up the ladder.

• Stevenage have taken over at the top of the table after a 2-0 win over Swindon
• Leyton Orient slip to second after being pegged back late-on at Doncaster to draw 1-1
• Salford won at 3rd-placed Northampton through Ethan Galbraith to close within two points of the top-three
• Paddy Madden penalty earns Stockport 1-0 win at Bradford
• In Matt Bloomfield’s first home match in charge, Colchester beat Harrogate 2-1 to move up to 20th

A reminder there is still one match ongoing. Wycombe still lead 1-0 at Oxford with around 25 minutes remaining following a first-half delay due to a medical emergency in the stands which saw the players leave the pitch for around half an hour.

• Leaders Plymouth beat Accrington Stanley 3-0 thanks to Niall Ennis, Sam Cosgrove and Ryan Hardie goals but both sides played over half the match a man short after red cards for Argyle’s Dan Scarr and Seamus Conneely of Accrington.
• Second-placed Ipswich came from behind to win 2-1 at Morecambe, who slip to the foot of the table.
• Sheffield Wednesday cruised to a 3-0 success at home to Cheltenham to stay five points off the top.
• Paul Warne’s first home game as Derby boss ended in defeat as James Collins scored but was later sent-off as Port Vale came from behind to win through an Ellis Harrison penalty and James Wilson.
• Managerless Exeter won 2-0 at in-form Barnsley thanks to a Jay Stansfield double, Forest Green beat Bolton, Bristol Rovers beat Cambridge and Shrewsbury beat MK Dons.
• Lincoln-Charlton, Peterborough-Burton, Portsmouth-Fleetwood all level

Let's take a look at the headlines from today's fixtures across the English Football League.

Cardiff seal victory at the DW Stadium and move up to 10th with their win over Wigan. That's back-to-back victories for the Bluebirds, now.

However it will be a game to remember for Charlie Wyke who scored his first goal following his cardiac arrest last year.

Jerry Yates' late double has given Blackpool a great win over Slaven Bilic's Watford.

That's back-to-back defeats for the Hornets after they won Bilic's first game in charge 4-0.

Life comes at you fast in the Championship!

So much for a lack of firepower, Birmingham City have romped to victory, at a sunny St Andrew's putting three past Bristol City with ease.

They redeem themselves after a lacklustre performance against Middlesbrough midweek. The three points thrust them to the middle of the table.

Bristol City’s attacking juggernaut seems to have stalled and their poor form continues. This is only the second time this season they’ve failed to find the back of the net.

Kenny McLean has the ball in the net on the verge of full-time but it's disallowed!

Preston, courtesy of Emil Riis' brace, come from behind to beat in-form Norwich and bring their 10-game unbeaten run to an end.

A fine win for the Potters.

That's Stoke's first win in four games and they've done it in style against the Blades who themselves are winless in three games, losing their last two.

Four wins on the bounce for Swansea, who remain in the final play-off spot.

First-half goals from Ollie Cooper and Harry Darling did the job.

While a Jack Clarke strike kept the hosts honest, Sunderland never really did enough to take anything from the game.

Burnley weather a late storm to hold out for a big victory over struggling Coventry.

Charlie Wyke is an absolute soldier and I'm absolutely delighted to see him on the scoresheet after he had a cardiac arrest last year.

It's been a real uphill battle for him, mentally so, so tough. It's great to see him on the scoresheet even if they don't win this afternoon.

A goal in each half for the in-form Zian Flemming gives Millwall a comfortable win over managerless Middlesbrough.

Steve Bruce's West Brom stay in the relegation zone after this stalemate.

Judging by the fan reaction that might not be enough to save his job.

The Baggies created some chances but Luton arguably deserved the point.

All over at Ewood Park and Blackburn win in style.
