FT: Hull City 0-2 Birmingham City

Well, after an interesting afternoon that's me done for the day.

We had a saw used to cut down the goalposts, which were two inches too big, and therefore kick-off was delayed by 20 minutes.

When play did start Birmingham were clearly the stronger side - John Eustace's side have now lost just one of their past seven, while Hull have lost seven of their past eight and failed to score in six of them.

We return on Tuesday for six Championship games. Thanks for joining us.

The excitement at Hull from the start of the season is starting to ebb away.

You're going into games worrying how bad they are going to be.

Birmingham look a very good outfit, they knew exactly what they wanted to do.

Birmingham go 12th, while Hull's poor run continues.

Just about as comprehensive a 2-0 away win as you could hope for.

The game was delayed by 20 minutes because the goals weren't the right size and once it got started veteran Blues striker Troy Deeney gave the visiting side the lead with a thumping penalty.

Juninho Bacuna made it 2-0 after the break with a cracking strike from 25 yards.

Deeney should have made it 3-0 with another penalty but almost kicked it out of the stadium and into the Humber.

No matter, it's three wins in six for John Eustace's men now while managerless Hull remain just one point above the relegation zone.

Hull have kept plugging away to be fair to them but they look desperately devoid of a real attacking spark.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 90+3 mins

    Hull City 0-2 Birmingham City

    Another Birmingham sub.

Krystian Bielik, who has been very good, trots off and youngster Jordan James erm... canters (?) on.

  7. INJURY TIMEpublished at 90 mins

Seven minutes of time added on.

I'm... a touch surprised it's as many as that but I have to confess I haven't been using a stopwatch.

If anything would sum up Hull's day this might be it.

Ryan Woods hits a nice ball over the top of the Blues defence for Oscar Estupinan.

The Colombian looks to head it at goal first time from 15 yards out and it comes off the wrong part of his head and just trickles about 15 yards wide.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 86 mins

    Hull City 0-2 Birmingham City

Fizzling out a bit this now.

Birmingham will just want to see it out for a second successive clean sheet after twinning 3-0 against Bristol City last week.

Another sub for the away side sees Manchester United loanee Hannibal Mejbri make way George Hall.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 83 mins

    Hull City 0-2 Birmingham City

Hull City caretaker Andy Dawson makes his last throw of the dice with a triple sub.

Ozan Tufan, Jean Michael Seri and Dimitrios Pelkas all make way.

Ryan Longman, Ryan Woods and Xavier Simons are all on.

Kieron Fallows: I feel I have been rejuvenated by Birmingham this season. Have not won at Hull in 13 years. John Eustace will be the first Blues manager since Alex McLeish to win at the MKM Stadium. Times are changing.

Kieron's bang on, the last time Blues won here Garry O'Connor got the only goal in a 1-0 win in September 2009. Looks like that run will be coming to an end today.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 78 mins

    Hull City 0-2 Birmingham City

Blues make a trio of subs.

Goalscorers Troy Deeney and Juninho Bacuna make way, as does Tahith Chong.

Lukas Jutkiewicz, Jordan Graham and Jobe Bellingham (younger brother of England star Jude) are all on.

That's a let-off - could that be what Hull are looking for, could it be the spark?

I can't see it, but who knows. It's an awful penalty.

    Dear, dear me.

This is the issue if you try and smash penalties down the middle.

Troy Deeney sends his penalty a good five or 10 yards over the crossbar.

From bad to worse for the home side.

Ozan Tufan tries to head the ball back on the halfway line after Blues clear a Hull corner but it goes between the two home defenders and Tahith Chong races in on goal where he is felled by Tigers keeper Nathan Baxter.

I alluded to Hull making a great start to the season a few minutes ago.

They took 11 points from their first six games but, should this finish as it is, it will be just three points from the subsequent eight matches.

    Ouch.

  18. Postpublished at 68 mins

    Hull City 0-2 Birmingham City

Blues look to put this one to bed.

Hannibal Mejbri swings a delicious deep cross for the back post and Alfie Jones has to head it away from almost underneath his own bar with Troy Deeney looking to sneak in and get the final touch.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 67 mins

    Hull City 0-2 Birmingham City

It feels REALLY flat at the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers made a great start to the season but this loss will leave them just a point above the relegation zone.

Of course if the Tigers can just get the next goal then you never know but right now... Looks very unlikely.

Randell Williams is in the book for the home side for a poorly timed challenge on Hannibal Mejbri.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 62 mins

    Hull City 0-2 Birmingham City

Hull are forced into a second change.

Midfielder Dogukan Sinik goes down and gets some treatment but he can't carry on and William Jarvis takes his place.
