A very different performance to the other night. The speed of ball hasn't been good enough. There's not enough urgency. We're not utilising the strengths of Lyndon Dykes - there have just been aimless balls towards him.

  2. HALF-TIME Scotland 0-1 Republic of Irelandpublished at 45+2 mins

The Republic lead thanks to a fine finish from John Egan. It's been pretty comfortable for the visitors you have to say.

The Irish haven't given Scotland any room to manoeuvre in midfield and anything long towards Lyndon Dykes has been mopped up by the three central defenders.

Scotland have created next to nothing and have also lost key man Kieran Tierney to an apparent concussion.

Scotland have been forced to play it longer quite a few times as a result of Josh Cullen picking up really good positions in the middle of the park for the Republic

Kieran Tierney is getting some treatment after Troy Parrott tramples on his head after getting in a tangle at a corner. The VAR lads must have had a look at that and deemed it unworthy of the referee's attention.

Greg Taylor is getting warmed up.

Craig Gordon makes an acrobatic one-handed save to push away a Troy Parrott header but the Irish striker had given Kieran Tierney a none to subtle shove before getting his head on the cross.

It is not undeserved. You got an increasing sense that the Republic of Ireland had a little more purpose going forward and that is exactly what played out. Scotland didn't react quickly enough and John Egan showed remarkable sharpness to emphatically bury it in the corner.

We are in the early stages but Scotland have not been able to match the display against Ukraine. They will need to find it.

That opener will give Stephen Kenny's side massive confidence, something he believes is growing as he imprints his style of play on this squad. They're starting to get results.

For Scotland, all will not be lost tonight but defeat here means victory against Ukraine will be essential in Poland. No easy task.

Even though there is plenty of the game left to go, you can feel a lot of the energy has been sucked out of it here. Players have to offer plenty of options to the man on the ball to get Scotland forward.

It's poor from Scotland let's be honest. Dykes does well to win it initially but you've got to give Ireland credit because they were the first to react to it. Scotland haven't been quite at it yet in possession, certainly not at the levels they were during the week.
