Former United States manager Jill Ellis: "It will be nothing short of spectacular and it will start with the play on the pitch. You're going to have experienced teams and a host of new teams. This World Cup will not only be the best but most competitive in our history.

"This upward trajectory that we're in is not going to slow down. I think the world is hooked on women's football. Increased numbers in the World Cup, domestic leagues thriving and players becoming heroes and household names. I feel this momentum we feel is a reflection of the amazing product of women's football."

Now Ellis herself brings the World Cup trophy out on stage.

Ellis led the USA to victory at both Canada 2015 and France 2019.

A montage of quotes from several leading coaches in women's football now, including Jill Ellis and Hege Riise, along with an interpretive dance performance.

    Goosebumps.

    Erm, ok.

FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura: "I am convinced that it will be the most attended, the most viewed, the most beautiful, the most colourful, the most spectacular.

"The hearts and minds of the two hosting nations will be open to welcome all of you to these shores.

"If you miss this World Cup, you'll regret it all of your life!"

FIFA President Gianni Infantino: "What an emotion, what a welcome we are having here in this beautiful country and the city of Auckland. It makes us feel at home already.

"Football unites the world and next year we will unite the world in Australia and New Zealand. We will unite the world in joy because football is joy."

FIFA president Gianni Infantino takes the podium.

"G'day," he says. Still working on the Australian accent apparently.

"Your passionate welcome makes us feel at home already."

He also describes FIFA as "official happiness provider for more than 100 years."

A reminder that Australia bid to be hosts of the 2022 men's World Cup, but got precisely one vote as Qatar were awarded the tournament. Seems the hatchet has been buried with FIFA.

Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand: "In New Zealand and Australia you will see in our stadiums, our host cities, and our welcome, that we embrace the opportunity you have given us in hosting the world's largest women's sporting event.

"To every athlete who plays in the world cup you raise the value and visibility of our sport, you inspire our young people to play, you create new sporting heroes and leaders."

Australian Federal Minister for Sport Anika Wells is representative of her country today.

She pays tribute to the aboriginal and first nation people in her speech, after an opening performance earlier of traditional music and dancing.

If you didn't get a chance to see that earlier, make sure you watch back. It was ace.

Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand, is welcomed on stage to make some opening statements.

"Welcome," she says, to thunderous applause.

She describes co-hosts Australia as "our friendly rivals", which is probably about right. Of the two hosts, Australia are the more likely to have a realistic tilt at the world title next year.

  17. Toughest and easiest draws for England and Irelandpublished at 07:29 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

What’s the toughest draw possible for England?

    England, Canada, Denmark and Nigeria

    What’s the easiest draw possible?

England, South Korea, Jamaica and Zambia

What’s the toughest draw possible for Republic of Ireland?

USA, The Netherlands, Ireland and Nigeria

    What’s the easiest draw?

New Zealand, South Korea, Ireland and Zambia

But as the cliche goes, there are no easy games...

  18. Who could Ireland face?published at 07:24 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

Vera Pauw's side head to the World Cup - their first major tournament - looking to spring a surprise.

The ideal scenario would be New Zealand from Pot 1 as the lowest-ranked team from that leading group, and the Republic would fancy their chances against either Norway, Italy, China or South Korea from Pot 2. However, any of the four big hitters in the second group - Canada, Netherlands, Brazil, Japan - would be a more daunting task.

A side filled with players from the Women's Super League and Championship, the Irish would back themselves against any of the Pot 4 teams and, if the draw is kind, progression could be on the cards at the first time of asking.

  19. Who could England face?published at 07:22 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

England could end up in a group with the Republic of Ireland since they are in the top and third pots respectively and two European nations can be in one group.

The Lionesses could end up in a group with previous World Cup winners Norway or Japan, who are both in Pot 2.

We could see them up against reigning Olympic champions Canada or this year's Africa Cup of Nations winners South Africa, while a theoretically kinder draw could pit them against South Korea, Jamaica and Zambia.

Arsenal legend and BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright is also among those down under to help make the draw today.

He said: “It’s been a joy to see the continued growth of the women’s game. Sharing the stage with women’s football pioneers from New Zealand and Australia, greats of the global game, and leading sporting identities from both host countries will be an honour.”

If you watched his punditry at Euro 2022, you will know those aren't hollow words from Wrighty.
