    Two-time World Cup winner Carli Lloyd is among a star studded line-up for the World Cup draw this morning.

    She joins former New Zealand player Maia Jackman and former Australia captain Julie Dolan, along with former England international Ian Wright, FIFA World Cup winner with Brazil Gilberto Silva, Alexi Lalas from the USA, and former Cameroon star Geremi.

    Lloyd said she is "excited to play a part" in the draw.

    “Given the expanded format in 2023, there’s going to be even more excitement globally when the eyes of the football world focus on Auckland this Saturday.

    "With new nations participating in the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time, I am excited to play a part in a draw that will bring smiles to faces in every corner of the globe” said Lloyd.

    A 10-team tournament will take place in New Zealand in February 2023, to decide the last three finalists.

    The teams will be split into three groups, two of three teams and one of four, with each group playing its own knockout competition.

    In the two three-team groups, the seeded team will go straight to the final and meet the winners of the semi-final between the other two sides in their group.

    Portugal will compete alongside Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Cameroon, Senegal, Haiti, Panama, Chile, Paraguay and Papua New Guinea.

    Next year's World Cup will see some fresh faces playing in the tournament for the first time ever.

    There will be 32 teams involved in next year's World Cup, an increase on the 24 that played at the previous two tournaments.

    Of the 32 teams, five will be making their maiden appearance on the world stage.

    Morocco, the Philippines, Republic of Ireland, Vietnam and Zambia will make all make their World Cup debuts.

    The 2023 World Cup marks the first time the tournament has had joint hosts. So what does that mean? A lot of flying around? Not exactly.

    Groups A, C, E and G will play all their group stage matches in New Zealand while Groups B, D, F and H will play all their group games in Australia.

    The opening match and opening ceremony will be played in Auckland, New Zealand with the final taking place at Stadium Australia in Sydney, Australia

    The 29 qualified teams and three play-off tournament placeholders have been placed into four pots of eight teams each, based on the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

    The highest ranked teams – along with hosts Australia and New Zealand - are in Pot 1, followed by the next eight teams in Pot 2 and so forth.

    Nations will be allocated to Groups A-H with four countries in each group.

    England are in Pot 1 while Republic of Ireland are in Pot 3.

    Pot 1: Australia, New Zealand, United States, Sweden, Germany, England, France, Spain

    Pot 2: Canada, Netherlands, Brazil, Japan, Norway, Italy, China, South Korea

    Pot 3: Denmark, Switzerland, Republic of Ireland, Colombia, Argentina, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Jamaica

    Pot 4: Nigeria, Philippines, South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, Group A play-off winner, Group B play-off winner, Group C play-off winner

    Sarina Wiegman's Euro 2022 winners are among 29 of the 32 World Cup teams already known, along with the Republic of Ireland - who will make their tournament debut - but Scotland and Wales narrowly missed out in the play-offs.

    The 2023 World Cup is the first to include 32 teams, up from 24 at the last tournament in 2019 in France, with an inter-continental play-off tournament in February to decide the remaining three entrants.

    Next year's tournament will be played between 20 July and 20 August in Australia and New Zealand. Best get used to these early starts.
