FT: Reading 1-2 Preston North End

Preston matchwinner Ched Evans told Sky Sports:

"Really pleased with the three points, it puts us in a great position in the league.

"I have not been involved as much as I would have liked but Ryan [Lowe, manager] knows if he calls on me I will put in a shift.

"To take the chances tonight and get a result here was massive.

"If you look at the league it is wide open and the World Cup coming up will be an issue for some clubs.

"We will get a nice break and if we can finish a three-game week with three wins it will put us in a great position."

    It was poor from Reading.

The tempo and passing was slow.

They kept giving the ball away to Preston.

    Disappointing.

That is a great win for Preston. The fans are loving it.

Reading had a foothold in the game when they got the penalty but Preston had the mental strength to come again and they deserved it.

Ched Evans won that game for Preston single-handedly.

Reading didn't shut him down when they needed to and they paid the price.

North End extend their winning streak to three and jump up from eighth to fifth in the Championship table.

The Royals lose only their third game at home but if we're being honest, Paul Ince's side look like they're taking on water now, with three losses in their last five outings.

Free kick to Reading just over the half-way line on the nearside.

Keeper Joe Lumley has come up for it.

Floated in to the far corner but Preston repel and clear.

    Reading 1-2 Preston North End

Defender Tom Holmes unloads an ambitious strike from miles out which doesn't make it to goal.

He probably should've floated one into the box from there.

Then the ball falls to Jeff Hendrick who slices a volley well wide.

    Desperate times for Reading.

    Reading 1-2 Preston North End

A thundering strike from 20 yards out by Andy Yiadom cuts through the Preston defenders but it's right at the keeper Freddie Woodman.

Six minutes of stoppage time to play.

    Reading 1-2 Preston North End

Tom Ince fires a low powerful low strike from the outside of the box and it creeps just wide of the bottom right corner.

It was worth a try. Not a bad effort from the Reading midfielder.

Preston just holding the ball up at the corner flag now in the Reading half.

They look to be on their way to three wins on the bounce and up to fifth place in the Championship if they can hold on for the win.

Ched Evans had no right scoring from that angle.

That goal will have knocked the wind out of Reading's sails.

Time is running out for the home side.

Ched Evans has come to the party tonight. What a strike that is.

What a time to get his first two goals of the season.

Oh dear, Reading defender Tom McIntyre backs off and allows Ched Evans to dribble into the nearside corner of the box.

The Welshman has plenty of space and says 'stuff this' and just rifles the ball on goal and it bends into the bottom left corner of the net.

Unreal finish on the counter attack.

Suddenly the Reading crowd have found their voice again.

I told you this one had the potential to be spicy didn't I.

Not overly spicy, we're not talking Vindaloo, but a decent Bhuna.

It's a terrific penalty, but Preston will rue that because they were bossing the game.

It was a crazy goal to give away.

Preston have to believe they can get that second goal.

Lucas Joao, the substitute, rifles the ball into the bottom left corner and bangs it off the inside of the post.

The keeper goes the right way but the ball is tucked too far into the corner.

    Well taken.

    We've got a game!

Reading 0 -1 Preston North End

    Reading 0-1 Preston North End

A first time cross from the far side from Junior Hoilett finds Lucas Joao almost on the penalty spot who heads it just over the bar.

Reading don't look particularly sharp but they're definitely holding possession better since conceding.
