    Reading 0-1 Preston North End

A sustained attack from Reading is easily repelled by Preston who have loads of yellow shirts behind the ball.

Still plenty of time left for the home side to get back into this.

Reading are pushing forward but they're leaving the back door open.

If Preston can get the ball right, they can get in again.

Reading are trying to get back on to an even keel, but that might play into Preston's hands.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 60 mins

    Reading 0-1 Preston North End

Complete change of the Reading front line.

Tyrese Fornah comes on for Mamadou Loum.

Lucas Joao is on for Yakou Meite.

Shane Long comes on for Andy Carroll.

    Reading 0-1 Preston North End

Based on what we know about Reading so far this season they're not the kind of team that have the firepower to come back when they're behind.

Remember, the Royals have a pretty impressive record at home having only lost two games.

But like I mentioned earlier, Preston are equal to that, and have more wins away on the road - so they travel well.

There's been an injection of pace and purpose from Preston at the start of this second half.

Preston deserve that. It was a great ball from Robbie Brady and a great header from Ched Evans.

They have got their just desserts, Preston have started the second half outstandingly.

    Ched Evans (51 mins)

It felt like it was coming.

A glancing header from Ched Evans from just outside the six-yard-box floats past the outstretched palm of Reading keeper Joe Lumley.

A neat finish from the Welshman.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 50 mins

    Reading 0-0 Preston North End

Joe Lumley is called into action after an awful downward header from Tom Mcintyre on the edge of the box.

The Preston striker Emil Riis chases the ball down and gets a tap in on goal but Lumley charges out and deflects for a corner.

Preston with a neat ball toward the front right side of the Reading box.

But the ball gets a little tangled between the North End player's feet and the home side recover.

Right let's do this we're back under way at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

If I was preparing the half-time snacks I would've laced the oranges with energy drink, coffee and anything else that infuses the body with a bit of fire.

One of those League One sides in FA Cup action this evening is 2008 winners Portsmouth, who are playing non-league Hereford.

The sixth-tier Bulls took the lead through Miles Storey, only for Reeco Hackett to quickly level for Pompey.

In this evening's other tie, Sheffield Wednesday lead fellow League One side Morecambe courtesy of Josh Windass' goal.

Preston have looked very assured at the back. They've not given Reading any opportunities.

But when they get into good positions they have got to find that pass. They have been too loose, too many times.

There's not been a great deal to write home about in terms of attacking intent. It's been a game of few chances.

Reading v PrestonImage source, PA Media

A half of few chances for both sides with neither grasping control of this one.

The game feels like it's drifting a little to be honest and not in a good way.

Good Drifting = like those high spec cars in the Fast and the Furious films (or those wafer chocolate bars, Drifters - other brands are available).

Bad Drifting = on a raft lost at sea.

Weird comparison I know ... but with not much happening on the pitch I'm having to get creative here - give me a break!

Both managers are going to have to deliver a rousing speech at half-time to get their players energised.

Brady down the near side for Preston, pulls it back on the edge of the area and has a pop.

It's on target and forces the Reading keeper Joe Lumley to make his first save of the game.

He gets down low at the near post and pushes the ball away.

    Not a bad effort.

I'm trying to be positive but let's face it.

This first half has been a bit pants.

You can tell both sets of players are tired.

  16. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Reading 0-0 Preston North End

Preston having the slightly better opportunities going forward at the moment.

Every pass and cross is well thought-out and precise but a little lethargic.

Reading have enough players back though to clear any danger.

Reading's Andy CarrollImage source, Rex Features

Andy Carroll has had enough of playing football so it seems.

He races 40 yards across the field to body-check the Preston defender Robbie Brady on the nearside just across the halfway line.

This isn't the NHL Andy - wrong sport.

  18. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Reading 0-0 Preston North End

Junior Hoilett lets one rip from outside the box but the strike was never going to trouble the Preston keeper Freddie Woodman.

The ball sails way over the top left corner.

Hoilett looks to the sky, turns and winces, he knows that was a wild shot.

  19. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Reading 0-0 Preston North End

Ooof Reading give the ball away cheaply in their own half and it lands to Ched Evans but the Preston striker loses it himself and the home side recover.

Slightly nervy play from Reading as we approach half-time.

    Reading 0-0 Preston

    Mick Payne
England C goalkeeping coach on BBC Radio Lancashire

Brad Potts should have scored. He should have at least made some contact. That's been the best chance of the game.

Both sides have cancelled each other out. Preston have looked organised but they need to pass the ball with more crispness and purpose.
