Oh dear, more issues for QPR.

Looks like he's holding his right calf.

Sinclair Armstrong is their second change inside the opening half-hour.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 QPR

Ah, maybe Jake Clarke-Salter isn't OK for the visitors.

He's forced off and Rob Dickie takes his place at centre-back.

  4. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 QPR

Oh man alive, Blues playing fast and loose outside their own area again.

This time it's a chance for Lyndon Dykes whose low shot is well saved by John Ruddy.

  5. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 QPR

Some concerns for Rangers' Jake Clarke-Salter, who goes down holding his right knee.

After some treatment he's OK to continue.

  6. Postpublished at 14 mins

Close for Blues as Hannibal Mejbri finds space 30 yards from goal and swings over a dangerous ball in behind the defence.

It's narrowly out of Troy Deeney's reach.

If we thought it was a good atmosphere before kick-off, Auston Trusty's outrageous early opener has all but taken the roof off the place.

You'd have thought there was nothing much on when Krystian Bielik redirected the ball back into the box following Blues' fourth-minute corner, but Trusty showed great awareness to, with his back to goal, acrobatically deliver the ball back into the six-yard box, with a flick of his right foot/lower calf.

And there was an audible gasp round the ground of slow realisation as the ball looped in over stranded Rangers keeper Seny Dieng.

That might make the selectors for the US World Cup squad sit up a bit.

It's the on-loan Arsenal defender's third goal in as many home games. And he can defend a bit too!

  8. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 QPR

The home side do not deal with a ball on top of their own area and it falls for Tyler Roberts to run on to and strike well.

John Ruddy in action again to tip this over - via a flick of the crossbar.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 7 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 QPR

Rangers straight back up the other end and Tim Iroegbunam drives towards the area, and draws a foul from Hannibal Mejbri.

The resulting free-kick is well struck and needs tipping over from John Ruddy in the Blues goal.

Well, what a start that is!

Blues with the early possession and Tahith Chong gets down the left to the byeline and forces an early corner.

It's swung in with pace and Seny Dieng punches away to the top of the area.

A scuffed ball back in falls towards to Auston Trusty who, facing away from goal, flicks a right boot at it, and manages to backheel the ball over the goalkeeper!

    Extraordinary goal.

  11. There's a buzz back in the Birmingham airpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 28 October 2022

    Birmingham 0-0 QPR

    BBC Sport at St Andrew's

It's like the good old days at St Andrew's tonight - a reminder of those early memorable Premier League times under Steve Bruce

Traffic congestion outside. Packed paths leading to the lit-up stadium - and an expectant buzz in the air.

Former Villa number two Michael Beale's QPR might lead the league - but Birmingham City have shown just what they are capable of in recent weeks by matching the opposition in a string of games, seemingly all against teams at the top of the league. Indeed, in a season of three sackings in the vicinity, Blues are the only Midlands side with anything much to write home about.

Admittedly Blues are short of 10,000 seats due to the ongoing work in the Tilton Road and old Spion Kop stands - but this one is a full house. And that is the first time in a long, long while.

With QPR's fantastic start to the season, it was inevitable that eyes would turn to the man making it all happen, manager Michael Beale.

Wolves made a formal approach to bring him to Molineux to replace the sacked Bruno Large.

But Beale has decided to stay, admirably saying the only reasons to leave would be selfish ones.

And he returns to the dugout tonight hoping to see his side to a 10th win of the campaign.

Many Birmingham supporters feared a long season after winning just one of their opening seven matches.

But from the next seven came four wins to see them climb the table.

A sixth win of the season here tonight will see them reach the top half and point to progress under head coach John Eustace.

Can they bounce back from defeat at Blackburn on Saturday?
