Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray has already given his players the brief on the challenge that presents itself tonight in the shape of Carlos Corberan's West Brom.

The visitors have won their past three games without conceding a single goal, and their attacking proposition - with talent such as Jed Wallace, John Swift and Matt Phillips in the ranks.

However, the form of Alex Pritchard and Amad Diallo in particular gives Mowbray confidence the Black Cats can take the game to the Baggies at the other end.

"We do know they will ask questions of us when they have the ball, with the quality they've got," Mowbray told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"But, in turn, we've shown recently some really good resilience.

"If we can continue in that vein then I know we've got people at the top end of the pitch who can give them problems."

    Breaking

Some interesting breaking news elsewhere in the Championship, as Coventry City sign a new rental deal with Mike Ashley's Frasers Group to play at the CBS Arena until the end of the season.

Having waited so long to get back there, it's imperative the Sky Blues stay in the city.

There's still no place for Sunderland striker Ross Stewart, who is being given plenty of time to return from a thigh injury which has kept him out since August.

One change to the starting XI though, as Elliot Embleton comes in for Jack Clarke.

West Bromwich Albion have striker Daryl Dike on the bench, having been given chance to increase his fitness over the World Cup break after a thigh injury.

Erik Pieters replaces in-form Kyle Bartley, in the only starting change to the side that beat Stoke 2-0 last time out - albeit on 12 November.

Sunderland: Patterson, Gooch, O'Nien, Batth, Alese, Evans,Neil, Diallo, Embleton, Pritchard, Simms.

Subs: Cirkin, Dajaku, Roberts, Bass, Ba, Clarke, Hume.

West Brom: Palmer, Furlong, O'Shea, Pieters, Townsend, Yokuslu, Molumby, Swift, Phillips, Wallace, Thomas-Asante.

Subs: Button, Rogic, Dike, Kelly, Ahearne-Grant, Reach, Gardner-Hickman.

Referee: James Linington (Isle of Wight)

Evening then, and welcome to our coverage of Sunderland versus West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.

Welcome back to the Baggies, who before the World Cup break were on a bit of a roll under ex-Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan.

Sunderland sneaked a game in last week, beating Millwall convincingly with a much-improved display after a utterly abysmal first-half of football from both teams.

    I demand better tonight.

If there ever a night at the football for a tastebud-meltingly hot pie and a cup of steaming meat-based savoury drink, then it must be this one.

The Stadium of Light is the destination for tonight's live text, where in the savage Wearside December chill, Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion take recent good form into a Championship head-to-head.

It promises much. Let's hope the sizzle isn't limited to the burger van grill.
