  1. Now for Malta to close out 2022published at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2022

    Republic of Ireland 1-2 Norway

Well, that's that then for the Republic as far as home internationals go for 2022.

A first half to forget against a Norway side missing star man Erling Haaland and, although they were much-improved after the break, they switched off at a free-kick and allowed the visitors to score a winner five minutes from time.

Stephen Kenny's men go to Malta for their last match of the year on Sunday and he will surely be expecting a win to help them go into next spring's Euro 2024 qualifiers in positive mode.

    Quote Message

It's really poor from our point of view, to concede from two set-pieces is really not like us. We need to look at that and improve on that. We found it hard to break them down, there was no real zip from us. We wanted to put on a performance for the fans and get the win but ultimately we did neither.

    There it is.

The final whistle has gone in Dublin and Norway didn't need Erling Haaland as they grab a 2-1 friendly win over the Republic of Ireland.

They led at the break through an excellent Leo Ostigard header. Alan Browne equalised in the second half with a fine strike before Ohi Omoijuanfo got the winner with five minutes remaining.

Four minutes of injury time added on.

Still time for the Republic to get a late leveller.

That goal has stunned the Aviva Stadium.

Just as it looked like the final minutes would see the home side pushing for a winner, they are now trying to recover from falling behind again.

Is this the start of a bright international career for Evan Ferguson?

The teenager has come off the bench to replace goalscorer Alan Browne.

Dublin falls silent as Norway sub Omoijunafo puts his side 2-1 up with five minutes remaining.

Home boss Stephen Kenny will not be happy with how his side defended a free-kick into their box.

And when the ball fell to Omoijunafo, he punished with a well-taken finish.

Entering the final 10 minutes in Dublin and it looks like both sides are going for a winner.

The hosts look the most threatening and have definitely been buoyed by that Alan Browne equaliser.

    The Republic deserved that!

They've been much better since the restart and have peppered the Norway box with crosses.

Alan Browne didn't have any intention of popping that one into the box, though.

As soon as the ball arrived at his feet, you could see his plan - and he executed it perfectly, fizzing a low drive past the despairing Orjan Nyland for his fifth international goal.

Stephen Kenny has turned to his bench to make a double substitution.

Michael Obafemi and the impressive Callum O'Dowda have gone off, with Robbie Brady and Chiedozie Ogbene coming on.

It hasn't really been Mohamed Elyounoussi's night.

He's missed a few chances already and now a header at the back post drifts aimlessly over.

What a strike from Alan Browne to equalise for the Republic of Ireland!

Callum O'Dowda did well again down the left. His cross was headed clear but it dropped to Browne, 20 yards out, who controlled it well before catching a lovely strike on the half-volley that finds the bottom corner.

A true strike and a well-deserved leveller for the home side.

The Republic have looked much livelier since the restart and key to that has been getting Michael Obafemi on the ball more often.

He's a player that brings people to their feet, but the Norway defenders have done a decent job at keeping him quiet.

Callum O'Dowda is the latest Republic player to have a good chance to equalise.

It was a lovely floated ball to the back post but the winger's header is too close to the visiting keeper who saves comfortably.

The opportunities are piling up for Stephen Kenny's men. They need one to go in soon, though.

That's a lovely one-two in the Republic box and it ends with Ola Solbakken forcing a smart save on the angle from Gavin Bazunu.

Far more goalmouth action in the first 12 minutes of the second half than there was in all 45 of the first.

Make that three chances in three minutes for the Republic as Alan Browne has a point-blank shot superbly saved by Norway keeper Orjan Nyland.

Suddenly a good tempo has been injected into this game.

    More of that please, lads.

    Chances, buses, etc etc.

The Republic have just come desperately close to scoring for the second time in a few minutes.

Michael Obafemi threaded a low cross into the box, Morten Thorsby stretches to clear and he comes within inches of turning the ball into his own net.

Wow. Not sure how much John Egan knew about it, but he has just had the Republic's best chance of the night.

Dangerous cross from the left by Callum Robinson and the ball somehow makes its way to Egan at the back post, but he can't react in time and it hits his shin before trickling just wide of the post.

Martin Odegaard gives the ball away and the Republic get a free-kick in a good position.

Callum Robinson fancies it but his strike hits the wall and deflects away for a corner.
