I would [keep Rachel Daly in the number nine position]. I think we saw in the Euros the experience of Ellen White - I think Rachel Daly gives that experience - protects the ball, holds the ball up and we know she can get a goal.

The only thing for me is left-back - we don't have a definitive left-back and so that kind of puts Rachel Daly back in that position as we're not comfortable there just yet.

But I've enjoyed seeing her up front, I think she deserved it and I thought she played really well today.

England manager Sarina Wiegman speaking to ITV4: "We tried enough [to win the game], we did a lot to score that second goal but it didn’t go in. That is what we tried against Czech last month. We had players there we just didn’t get it in the back of the net."

On conceding to Norway: "It’s disappointing. That happens sometimes too, when it is a goalkeeper then it is a goal. It is unfortunate. As a team you have to concede that and have to try and score another goal.

"Overall there’s so many things we can take from this game. Getting information, this is all to prepare for the World Cup and it gives us so much information. We saw so many players today and on Friday and that’s a good thing."

On Rachel Daly in the number nine role: We have many players for the number nine role. We saw Alessia coming in from injury but she did a great job too. When Ebony played she did great there too and when Lauren James played she did great. So we have lots of options."

On ending 2022 unbeaten: “Very nice but I am a little disappointed with this tie. But if you had said this would have happened from last September to now I probably wouldn’t believe you.

"This week three players made their debuts, lots of players have made minutes now. We take a lot from this and the overall year.

"I'm going to take a little bit of Christmas time and think it over."

England have learnt about a few players. Whatever we say about Ellie Roebuck unfortunately making that mistake, she will have learnt something tonight.

It's great to see players like Maya Le Tissier play, and see Lauren James playing in a situation where there's not a lot of space today.

Like Sarina said, there were eight players who played today that didn't play in the Euros. That's what she's done with these games - she's seen a lot of things with these players.

Bring on 2023!

Sarina Wiegman is understandably very pleased with England's year though she admitted she's a "little disappointed" with tonight's draw.

She also said she would have a little toast at Christmas to 2022.

England's Rachel Daly has been speaking to ITV4 post-match: "I'm delighted to be on the score sheet. As a forward coming into tonight's game that was my target to score.

"Ultimately we didn’t win which is disappointing but we’re ending the year with a 20-game unbeaten run.

"I love the number nine position but I love football, I say it to everyone, I am happy to play everywhere.

"It is special wearing the number nine shirt, it was the number my dad wore when he played so even more special.

"But I’m prepared for both positions always, I can’t just focus on one. It’s nice to have that role."

England's record in 2022 - played 20, won 16, drawn 4, lost 0, scored 72 and conceded 7.

Won the Euros, the Arnold Clark Cup and qualified for the World Cup with a 100% record having not conceded a goal.

Not bad.

It’s concentration at the highest level and when you don’t have that many opportunities from Norway coming on then you have to focus.

I think it further cements how far Mary Earps has come and that she is by far England's best number one.

England goalscorer Rachel Daly reiterates her willingness to play anywhere but she admits playing as a number nine was extra special.

"It was the number my dad wore when he played," she tells ITV.

A mixed night for some individuals.

Ellie Roebuck, given a chance in goal tonight, made a big mistake to hand Norway an equaliser.

But there were strong debuts for Maya Le Tissier and Katie Robinson and Rachel Daly scored yet again in a rare start up front.

That's now 26 matches unbeaten under Sarina Wiegman too. Unbelievable record.

There will be frustrations tonight after a very solid performance from Norway and a patchy one from England.

But lots to celebrate for in 2022.

England fail to breakdown Norway's stubborn defence, who came from behind to salvage a draw despite going down to 10 players.

But England end the year unbeaten. A very impressive 2022.

Niamh Charles keeps it in on the far side. She goes back to Ella Toone, who slides in Alessia Russo. She fires it across goal but it's desperately cleared in the six-yard area by Norway. Charles then chips it back to Russo and she nods it wide.

Guro Reiten clips Katie Zelem. Free-kick for England just outside the box.

Katie Robinson has looked sharp. She links up with Katie Zelem, who whips it in early, but again the goalkeeper is there.

You expect there not to be much cohesion because of the changes made.

But I expect Sarina Wiegman will be disappointed with the chances England have given up.

Heading into the four minutes of stoppage time in Murcia. England are pushing for a winner against 10-player Norway.

Good play from Katie Robinson with her first real touches on the ball. She drives at the full-back, beats her for pace and puts in a teasing cross. Alessia Russo is offside at the back post though.
