    Cambridge 1-2 Grimsby

Grimsby are through to the third round thanks to Otis Khan's 90th-minute winner at Cambridge United.

Grimsby manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside:

"It was looking like a a replay but then we got our chance and Otis [Khan] never looked like missing.

"I always thought we could match up to them and get through the tie and we limited them to not much.

"Overall we did enough in general to win the game and we now look forward to the draw."

  3. U's 'didn't have enough quality'published at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2022

    Cambridge 1-2 Grimsby

Cambridge produced one of the stories of last season's FA Cup when they stunned Newcastle at St James' Park. But they are out after being beaten at home by League Two Grimsby Town.

Cambridge United manager Mark Bonner told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:

"There were parts of the performance I was really pleased with but we lacked penetration too often.

"We didn't have enough quality and decision-making in the top third of the pitch.

"At 1-1 I thought we were going to drive on and win the game but we didn't create enough moments and then conceded the easiest goal they'll score all season."

  4. 'We had urgency and competitivenes'published at 18:18 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2022

    Hartlepool 3-1 Harrogate

Hartlepool have not had much to shout about this season as they sit bottom of League Two.

But they do now have an FA Cup third round tie to look forward to in January as a Callum Cooke goal and two from Josh Umerah saw them past Harrogate.

Hartlepool manager Keith Curle told BBC Radio Tees:

"The players went out and played with that urgency and competitiveness that we need.

"There's nothing better than saying well done to a player but if things aren't going well you need to speak honestly.

"Callum [Cooke] has got goals in him and one of the notes I gave him was to be a creative goal threat."

Forest Green Midfielder Corey O'Keeffe says he's looking forward to a third round tie against a Premier League team

Forest Green midfielder Corey O'Keeffe told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"It feels good to get the win and get our names in the hat for the next round.

"They moved the ball and tried to stress us out a bit but we felt comfortable the whole game.

"The gaffer said to us at half time that it was only 1-0 and 'anything could happen' and that the next goal was massive.

"Alvechurch did well to get one back, the lad curled it into the top corner, he was pretty chuffed.

"I want any Premier League team in the third round. I just want to get as far as we can. But a good away game somewhere."

  8. Fun facts from the FA Cup todaypublished at 18:09 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2022

With one half of football remaining on this hectic day of FA Cup second round action, let's take a look at some facts and stats compiled by Opta from this afternoon.

    • Sheffield Wednesday's match-winner Michael Smith has scored six goals in his last seven appearances in the FA Cup, with four of these coming as a substitute. That includes today's brace against Mansfield and a double against Solihull Moors in December 2019.
    • Josh Umerah has scored 10 goals in all competitions this season, more than three times as many as any other Hartlepool player.
    • Oxford United's last six games in the FA Cup have produced a total of 27 goals, with the U's both scoring and conceding in each of these games (F14 A13). Today they lived right up to that form in a 4-1 win against Exeter.
    • Portsmouth's Colby Bishop has been involved in five goals in his last five appearances in all competitions (four goals and one assist), with today the second time this season he's scored two penalties in a game.
    • There were 34 shots in Charlton's 2-2 draw with Stockport (17 each), the most in any of the second round matches played so far. Myles Hippolyte's equaliser for Stockport came six minutes and seven seconds into injury time.

The non-league side have had the better of the action and certainly the chances.

In the opening 10 minutes Gillingham looked like they were controlling the game and might get an early opportunity but didn't really create anything.

The best effort of the half was came after 15 minutes when Junior Morais' flashing effort was tipped around the post by Gills keeper Jake Turner.

Since then he's wasted an effort that was smashed over the bar.

Alvechurch manager Ian Long says he is "disappointed" in certain players and hoped his side would have done better

Alvechurch's FA Cup adventure came to an end as they were beaten 2-1 by League One side Forest Green.

Jed Abbey's stunning free-kick drew the Church level early in the second half, only for former Alvechurch player Josh March to grab the winner for Rovers.

The Gloucestershire side will now play in the third round for only the third time in their history.

Alvechurch manager Ian Long told BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester:

"I'm proud of the run that we've been on but I am a little disappointed with the performance we put in today.

"I think Forest Green were the better side. We struggled at times and I'm disappointed with the way that we conceded the second goal after we'd gotten back on level terms.

"We switched-off at the back and we've been done-in. It was a shame because we'd just got a foot hold in the game.

"If we could have just held on for a few minutes it could've given us a bit more energy and a little more polish on the ball. But we've let ourselves down."

Grimsby manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside:

"It feels good and I think it was deserved. It's a good day for us all. I thought we'd done enough in general to win the game but with their equaliser we all thought we'd have to go again.

"I felt that we matched up quite well with Cambridge and we were confident that we could get through the tie if we turned up.

"It's always nice to have a cup run and we look forward to that draw.

"I always look to Sheffield Wednesday as my hometown club and Rotherham from a personal point of view, but I haven't been to Spurs' stadium, it certainly looks amazing and everyone says that it is, so that might not be a bad one."
