    Wigan 0-2 Sheff Utd

Wigan gaffer Kolo Toure rolls the dice again.

Tendayi Darikwa, who made the error for the second goal, and Joe Bennett are off.

Ryan Nyambe and Thelo Aasgaard are on.

What a surname Aasgaard is by the way...

LONG way back for the home side now given their struggles in front of goal and the Blades' excellent defensive record.

Ultimately it won't be these games that decide the Latics' fate this season but Kolo Toure is getting some idea of the size of task he has on his hands.

Wigan had started the half better but yet again they've imploded.

Billy Sharp struck it really true with his left foot into the far corner - what a boy!

    Who else?!

Veteran striker Billy Sharp got off the mark for the season last week and now he has his second with a crisp left-footed finish into the bottom corner.

Latics full-back Tendayi Darikwa gave the ball away very cheaply about 30 yards from his own goal and the ball is quickly worked to Sharp.

He's been snaffling chances like that for... quite some time now.

Wigan starting to build up a bit of a head of steam.

They're yet to really force a save from Wes Foderingham in the Blades goal though.

    Wigan 0-1 Sheff Utd

It was always going to be a big ask for the home side tonight.

The second-placed Blades have only conceded 19 goals in their 22 matches so far this campaign, the fewest in the league.

Meanwhile, Wigan have scored just 22, which is more than just two teams.

Great tackle from Jordan Cousins as Billy Sharp looks to get a shot off in the area.

Not for the first time tonight, the chance came about after lax play from the home side.

We're back under way and the home side have made a second change.

Tom Naylor is replaced in midfield by Jordan Cousins.

That's like for like so I'm going to assume that's injury-enforced.

Coventry v West Brom (Wednesday, 19:45 GMT)

This is the penultimate game in the Championship before Christmas.

Wednesday's game should be an absolute cracker.

Coventry coughed up a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 at home to Swansea on Saturday and I don't doubt boss Mark Robins' words will still be ringing in their ears when they take the field against in-from West Brom.

The Baggies are flying under new boss Carlos Corberan and have won their past five.

It's a good opponent for Sheffield United tonight.

They could be four or five up but Wigan have also had two or three good chances from the Blades' own defensive woes and mishaps.

It's a good one for Sheffield United to get going again, as against better opposition they would've conceded from one or two of those chances.

John Egan celebratesImage source, PA Media

John Egan's early header for the away side is the difference at the break.

The Republic of Ireland centre-back got away from the Wigan markers with ease to power home a header from Oli Norwood's corner.

Since then it is the Blades who have looked like getting the game's second goal, with James McAtee forcing a decent low save from Jamie Jones and Sander Berge missing a fine chance to tap home after neat play down their left.

Wigan are looking to pass out from the back but they're... very much a work in progress in that and the Blades are pressing very high. There's been some hair-raising moments for the home crowd.

Latics boss Kolo Toure has a bit of sorting out to do in his first home game in charge.

Wigan centre-back Curtis Tilt should be off.

He was in the book early on for a coming together with Billy Sharp and now he lunges in late on James McAtee.

The referee has a word with him. He's a lucky boy in my book.

  13. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 45+2 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Sheff Utd

Wigan think they should have a penalty as Latics defender Rarmani Edmonds-Green goes down under a challenge from Anel Ahmedhodzic as he looks to get on the end of a corner but no dice.

It was a little messy from the Bosnia international I should say.

The home side keep pushing on though and Callum Lang's cross is cut out at the near post for another corner, which ends with Joe Bennett shanking a shot high into the stand.

Can the Latics find a leveller before the break?

    Wigan 0-1 Sheff Utd

    Dear me.

Wigan are going to have to start getting it launched back there.

The ball is pumped forward by Wes Foderingham after catching a corner with ease.

The home side should just deal with it but they dally and the Blades sprint forward to get the press on and nearly, nearly end up with a chance on goal.

It was a tap-in from the penalty spot for Sander Berge but he just didn't make a good connection.

But great play from James McAtee.

BIG chance for the Blades and it should be 2-0.

The away side pull the home side apart after beautiful footwork from Iliman Ndiaye on the halfway line sets up an attack.

The ball is cut back for Sander Berge to tap in from about eight yards but he doesn't make a clean connection and it's blocked.

  19. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Loads better from Wigan.

The home side keep the ball for a good minute or so and move it around neatly.

It breaks down with James McClean's second attempted cross going over everyone in the middle but that's much more like it.

  20. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Wigan 0-1 Sheff Utd

It's all gone a bit flat, with a few niggly little free-kicks interrupting the flow of the game.

The away side look far more dangerous when they do get their foot on the ball for any kind of period of time.
