So that's us all wrapped up on the first BBC live page of 2023, a good afternoon for Blackburn Rovers fans.

Cardiff City boss Mark Hudson told Sky Sports:

"We were resilient in the first half.

"We didn't start the second half as we wanted and then we are chasing the game and it is difficult to break down a good side.

"The shape change maybe didn't suit us.

"We had a couple of moments but didn't have cutting edge or belief around the box."

Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson told Sky Sports:

"I am really pleased to get the win.

"It was a difficult game, Cardiff came with a game-plan, sitting back with a 4-5-1.

"It was difficult, but we had great energy.

"At half-time we spoke about being more dangerous and we scored the goal and probably could have scored more goals.

"Well done to the boys, it was an excellent result, a great way to start the year with a win.

"Bradley Dack has had two terrible injuries. I had a terrible injury and couldn't get back.

"It was great for Bradley to get the goal."

Goalscorer Bradley Dack told Sky Sports:

"I got lucky with the deflection, but I’ll take it.

“It’s been a difficult two years and it takes a while to get back to the level I want to, but we are going in the right direction and happy to get the win.”

So Blackburn have just a second win in six games to revive their promotion hopes thanks to Bradley Dack's deflected winner.

There wasn't much between the two sides to be honest, that's how crazy it sounds.

Cardiff just didn't have enough movement up top, they just stood static and waited for something to happen or waited for a midfield player to try and pick a pass.

If the goalkeeper can go 80-90 minutes without making a save then something needs to happen.

It's a disappointing result for Cardiff.

There we are.

Blackburn hold on.

A scrappy game, but Rovers won't care a jot. They cut the gap on second-placed Sheffield United to eight points.

Cardiff are without a win in seven and looking over their shoulders with worry.

Callum O'Dowda wins a header, but it's an easy save.

I just look at the movement up top for Cardiff and there's just nothing there.

There's got to be movement.

No wonder the midfield players don't have anyone to pass to.

Jaden Philogene is a player that excites me, he's got good feet, he can draw free kicks, maybe get a penalty, he can run at players.

I like him, he's a very good player.
