    Blackburn 1-0 Cardiff

A cruel way for Cardiff to fall behind, but by the same token, there is no denying Rovers probably deserve their lead.

Bradley Dack's shot takes a huge deflection off Jack Simpson and goes into the net almost in slow motion.

    Rovers ahead.

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

To be fair to Andy Legg, Robert Earnshaw is in the TV studio for the broadcaster today, so it's doable.

I think Cardiff just need a goalscorer, a Robert Earnshaw or someone who has the knack of getting on the end of things and scoring goals, they just need one of those players.

    We are back under way.

    No changes from either side.

There is plenty more to come in the Championship today after the second half at Ewood Park.

Blackpool host Sunderland, Bristol City go to Coventry, Huddersfield take on Luton and Millwall are at home to Rotherham.

You can follow those games and the rest of the day's EFL action with us.

Lack of action, lack of quality, the only bit of quality we saw was right at the end of the first half.

Not been to much to shout about.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2023

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

Plenty of chances, plenty of effort, not much quality.

Let's have a cuppa and reconvene in a few minutes.

  9. CLOSE!published at 45+1 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

Nice move from Cardiff and Mark Harris drills the ball just wide.

They are ending the half nicely.

  10. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

Mark Harris almost sneaks in from a ball over the top.

We are heading into added time.

  11. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

If Cardiff hold on to draw they will be both five games unbeaten and winless in seven.

    Pick your narrative, I guess.

That rather sums up the first half, no cutting edge from either team.

  13. Postpublished at 39 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

Sam Gallagher loses his marker from a corner, but heads over from a difficult angle.

    Better from Cardiff.

They're getting a little foothold in the game towards the end of this first half.

Ryan Hedges needs some treatment, but he's okay.

  16. CLOSE!published at 35 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

Good period of possession for Cardiff culminates in Callum Robinson having a sight of goal, but his shot is blocked by Thomas Kaminski.

  17. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

A blocked shot from Tom Sang and now a corner for Cardiff.

They will be grateful to not be defending.

  18. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

Blackburn continue to probe, Cardiff's defending is becoming more and more constant. They can't get out.

Tom Sang denies Bradley Dack with a great tackle.

But it feels like a Rovers goal is coming.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 28 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Cardiff

    Oooooof.

Jack Simpson is booked for a studs-up challenge into Jake Garrett's thigh.

In the Premier League that would be a VAR red card.

Simpson is a lucky boy (I sound like Principal Seymour Skinner).

When Cardiff are clearing the ball, Callum Robinson and Mark Harris have got to get hold of that ball somehow, they've got to get their bodies onto it, hold that ball up to allow his defenders to squeeze the pitch.

Blackburn are just picking up the second balls all the time.
