  3. Wales have ambitions of achieving 'something special'published at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2022

Ben Davies says Wales have ambitions of achieving "something special" ahead of their World Cup game since 1958.

Davies, 29, was part of the side who ended a 58-year absence from major finals by qualifying for the past two European Championships.

"It's a success for us just to qualify for a World Cup," said Davies, in what was the first news conference to be held in Welsh in the competition's 92-year history.

"But that doesn't mean we don't have a lot of ambition to do something special in this competition.

"Euro 2016 was something new to us all, travelling around Europe to play in a top competition, that was something different.

"There's a similar feeling now, a new feeling for us facing teams we've not played against before."

  12. McKennie and Dest in contention for USApublished at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2022

    Dafydd Pritchard
    BBC Sport Wales in Doha

Two of the United States' most prominent players, Weston McKennie and Sergino Dest, are fitness concerns for their World Cup opener against Wales tomorrow.

Juventus midfielder McKennie and full-back Dest, on loan at AC Milan from Barcelona, have been struggling with thigh and adductor issues respectively.

But USA head coach Gregg Berhalter is confident both will feature against Wales.

“We’re pretty much done [selecting a team]," says Berhalter.

"In terms of Weston and Sergino, they’ve made great progress and we see them playing, we just don’t know for how long.

"They're definitely in a position to help the team."

  14. Maddison an England concernpublished at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2022

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Doha

James Maddison's absence from England's final training session before they open the World Cup campaign against Iran tomorrow must surely be a growing worry for manager Gareth Southgate.

The messages about the knee injury Maddison suffered in Leicester City's final Premier League game before the World Cup break at West Ham United were optimistic from club and country but Southgate would surely have felt far more comfortable had he been able to train fully before now.

Southgate will no doubt give an update on Maddison's condition when he speaks here later.

There was plenty going on at the fan festival last night with a Panna football arena on one side.

Freestylers from Mexico and Argentina were aiming to nutmeg each other. We left when it was 1-0 to Mexico.

And as we walked out of the mini arena and into a walkway display of replica shirts, balls and trophies, one woman was guarding a fridge surrounded by photographers.

She opened it up and there it was - the Golden Boot!

Not sure where the milk was being stored.

TV crews from around the globe are assembled and Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal, sitting alongside Virgil van Dijk, proved a popular figure earlier with some reporters even committing the cardinal sin of asking for a selfie with the pair.
