  1. Kick-off approaching...

    England v France (19:00 GMT)

    Well kick-off is fast approaching.

It is now time for me to handover to Phil Dawkes for full build-up and coverage of England v France in the World Cup quarter-finals.

    Enjoy, everyone.

    England v France
  2. Mbappe France's main threat?

    England v France (19:00 GMT)

When considering how to stop France, the focus, naturally, is on Kylian Mbappe.

It's certainly no secret that containing the Paris St-Germain forward, who has either scored or assisted France's past seven World Cup goals, will be key to England's hopes of reaching consecutive semi-finals, having also made the last four of Russia 2018.

France are unbeaten in Mbappe's 13 starts at major tournaments - winning all nine at the World Cup - and he has been directly involved in 12 goals in those fixtures.

An irreplaceable influence, he has been vital to France's attack and leads his team in a host of offensive metrics including shots (20), open play attacking sequence involvements (36) and opposition penalty area touches (46).

England fans are starting to gather, knowing it's going to be one of the toughest games for England so far in the tournament.

One simply said: "It's anyone's game. Look what happened to Brazil yesterday."

Score line predictions from here at Boxpark Wembley: 2-1 England.

  5. A battle down the left?

    England v France (19:00 GMT)

    Luke Shaw

There are similarities in the way England and France have created their opportunities during the World Cup, with both favouring attacks on the left.

The two sides have made 41% of their attacks down that side, while no players have created more chances for their respective teams than left-backs Theo Hernandez (nine) and Luke Shaw (six).

More than half of France's opportunities have come from the left, where 26 chances have provided a total of five assists.

That's compared with three assists from 11 left-sided chances for England, who could deploy Shaw - second only to Argentina talisman Lionel Messi for progressive passes - and either Phil Foden or Marcus Rashford against an out-of-position Jules Kounde at right-back.

  9. 'England have more belief now'

    England v France (19:00 GMT)

    Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard is backing England to go on and win the World Cup. He's been speaking to BBC East Midlands Today's Charlie Slater about how strange it has been watching this tournament after playing and scoring at the last one in Russia.

"Brazil look strong, France and our team look strong as well," he said. "It's more about belief now. I think England have the belief more than the last World Cup where I was involved. I think they have the confidence and belief to go on and win it."

On watching the games versus taking part he added: "Yes it's strange here. I needed to kick on as soon as I signed here, which I didn't. Understandably that's why you don't get picked. But I still support them. I'll always be there to support them.

"I am going to keep working hard and trying to score and assist and do well for Forest. That's when England come calling. As long as I do my bit on the pitch everything else should fall into place."

And cheekily when asked if England can win the World Cup, Lingard added: "Yes, it's coming home definitely."

  16. 'Disappointments have made us stronger'

    England v France (19:00 GMT)

    Gareth Southgate

England have grown into the tournament, with their 3-0 win over Senegal in the last 16 perhaps their most impressive performance so far.

Manager Gareth Southgate led England to the semi-finals of the last World Cup, before they beaten in the final of Euro 2020 by Italy and he says those experiences are helping the team in Qatar.

"In terms of our experiences, those big matches are important reference points for the team," said Southgate.

"There have been some defeats that hurt that prepare you for nights like tomorrow, where you have to be the very best version of yourself. We are ready to fight France for that place in the semi-finals."

  19. Sunak and Macron share pre-game joke

    England v France (19:00 GMT)

    Emmanuel Macron and Rishi Sunak

Rishi Sunak and the French president joked on Twitter together ahead of England's World Cup game with France.

Emmanuel Macron tweeted: "Dear Rishi Sunak looking forward to the game tonight. If Les Bleus win (they will!), you'll wish us luck in the semi-final... right?"

The Prime Minister responded: "Hopefully I won't have to. But you've got a deal.

"Look forward to you getting behind the Three Lions in the next round."
