Dalic on Morocco: "They are definitely the biggest surprise of this World Cup. When speaking about teams that could have done better, Spain, Germany, England and Italy, who didn't even make it here. These are all great teams that could have done more.

"But this is a specific World Cup and the third-placed play-off being played by national teams that are not the favourites or of which this is not expected."

Croatia head coach Zlakto Dalic on comparisons between Croatia and Morocco and whether he expects Morocco to change their style: "Morocco resembles us from four and a half years ago. They have proven to be high quality and have shown unity and spirit. They have great support and deserve to be where they are. They went to a high level with every game and I think they'll be a more challenging opponent than in the first game. They are of high quality and energy.

"It is a great final for us and them. I really respect them. I congratulate them on what they've achieved. they fear no-one. They will be a challenging opponent. It will be a difficult match."

Dalic on selection problems faced by Croatia: "It's the seventh match in less than a month. We're tired, we're exhausted and drained. We have consequences with injuries -Gvardiol, Juranovic, Brozovic - so we'll see what happens during the day. Something always happens during the day, so we'll be cautious.

"I ask the players to be fair to me and the national team and to report injuries and their physical status. Everybody wants to play and be part of this match but we'll have to consider very carefully as we don't want a situation where players are not 100% fit who then may have to be substituted. This would be very difficult. If somebody is not 100 per cent fit. I know it's difficult to admit to oneself, we'll talk about it today.

This World Cup means a lot and we want our people to be proud of us. 1998 was more important because it was our first but God willing he will achieve the same tomorrow and I hope to repeat the achievements that we achieved four years ago. 16. 'We haven't seen the best Mbappe by a long way'published at 12:46 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2022

Argentina v France (Sun, 15:00 GMT)

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

When you are 23, you feel you can beat anyone. If you give the ball to him, he feels he can do everything.

I am convinced, and I've heard his former PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino say it too, that we haven't seen the best Mbappe by a long way.

He is so fast and powerful. For him, as long as he's got space in front of him he'll beat the defender, that's it. You hope that he grows into, not only a goalscorer, but someone who links up better and he decides better. But, even with what he has at the moment, he's scored nine goals at World Cup's.

It will be extraordinary if he wins a second World Cup and equals Pele at that age. He shouldn't only focus on that. To become legendary, and even bigger than that, he should improve his game. I know it sounds strange with what we've seen.

  17. 'A World Cup win would end Messi debate'published at 12:43 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2022

Argentina v France (Sun, 15:00 GMT)

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

The short answer is yes - Lionel Messi's career would feel incomplete without a World Cup win.

He has spent 17 years at the top and he's scored a lot of goals in finals. That consistency has never been seen before.

I know what we do with World Cups, which by the way is a cup competition of seven games. It just produces legends and myths and it gives you the opportunity to say: "He won a World Cup, end of the debate".

Even if he didn't, it is his second final in three World Cups. He has been the best scorer in the history of Argentina at the tournament and he's equalled Lothar Matthaus in terms of appearances.

We define success by seeing someone lifting trophies, but I think he has already become the best player in history. But, for many, this will be the end of the debate.
