    Stockport 1-1 Charlton

Stockport are firing lots of high crosses into the box that Charlton are struggling a bit to deal with.

The set piece is poor though and doesn't get it past the wall.

    Stockport 1-1 Charlton

Charlton lose the ball in a dangerous spot and it gives Paddy Madden the chance to chip a cross into the box.

Myles Hippolyte goes to the ground clutching his head as he jumps for the ball with one of the Charlton defenders, and there are cries for a penalty from the home side and fans.

It did look like Charlton may have got away with one.

We had four goals in the first match between these two sides, could we be in for something similar again?

    Will Collar

Stockport are back level and it's thanks to some quick reactions from Will Collar.

The hosts win a free-kick just inside the Charlton half, it gets cleared to Ryan Rydel on the edge of the box and his fierce strike thumps against the post, but Collar is there to tap it in on the rebound.

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 23 mins

    Stockport 0-1 Charlton

Stockport almost, almost had the equaliser there except Craig MacGillivray pulled off a excellent save to deny Paddy Madden's diving header from going in.

That's Stockport's best chance so far.

  6. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Stockport 0-1 Charlton

Charlton look quick on the counter attack and have tried to break quite a few times from deep this opening 20 minutes.

This time Chucks Aneke gets on the end of a long ball that comes from his own box and the Charlton striker gets through in a one-on-one with Ben Hinchliffe.

But he drags his shot well wide of the far post.

  7. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Stockport 0-1 Charlton

It's getting a bit heated with quite a few shoves and pushes from players on both sides.

The referee seems happy to let play carry on at this point though.

  8. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    Stockport 0-1 Charlton

A very good chance from Charlton to make it 2-0 here.

Jack Payne's cross finds Richard Chin except his shot goes just over the bar and straight into the Cheadle End behind the goal.

  9. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Stockport 0-1 Charlton

Stockport don't seem to have let that early goal spook them and are seeing plenty of the ball around the Charlton box.

There's a moment of danger when a lovely teasing ball comes into the area but Charlton's defence get their foot onto it before Stockport get the chance.

  10. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Stockport 0-1 Charlton

That goal will have certainly settled some nerves in the Charlton camp.

Tyreece Campbell is next to take a punt at goal, it's not the most powerful strike though and Ben Hinchliffe comfortably collects it.

  11. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Stockport 0-1 Charlton

Charlton lose the ball in their own half and Stockport quickly break on the counter.

The ball eventually comes out to Ryan Rydel who's broken down the wing, his cross is just too long though and goes straight out of play on the other side of the pitch.

GOAL: Stockport 0-1 Charltonpublished at 7 mins

    Akil Wright og

Somehow Charlton take the lead and it isn't pretty.

They win a first corner and as the ball comes in Stockport goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe flaps it straight into his own defender and it trickles over the line.

Akil Wright has the unfortunate job of being that player with the last touch.

    Stockport 0-0 Charlton

Stockport really have started on the front foot and with purpose, which was surely the instruction from Dave Challinor.

They get the first shot, courtesy of Ryan Croasdale from the edge of the box but it isn't quite on target and flies above the bar.

  17. The prize on offerpublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2022

    Stockport v Charlton (19:45 GMT)

A place in the third round of the FA Cup is so desired because it puts teams from the lower leagues in with a chance of facing one of English football's biggest hitters, with the Premier League teams entering the selection bag for the draw.

Now, the draw was made on 28 November meaning we know who the winner of this match will face in their next match...

A tie against League Two Walsall at home is the prize on offer tonight, which isn't necessarily the most glamorous of fixtures - no disrespect to Walsall, of course - but is one that both sides will think they could win and thus move on to the fourth round.

The FA Cup third round will take place between 6 and 9 January 2023.

  18. Stockport have FA Cup 'experience'published at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2022

    Stockport v Charlton (19:45 GMT)

    Dave ChallinorImage source, Rex Features

Stockport might be in the division below Charlton, but the Hatters have a good recent track record in the FA Cup, especially when it comes to knocking out teams above them.

Manager Dave Challinor wants his team to call on memories of last year when the match kicks off, which saw them beat League One Bolton 3-1 in the FA Cup second round when they were still a National League side.

"We have the experience of what a special occasion these draws bring up under the lights," Challinor said.

Stockport come into the match off the back of a thumping 5-0 win over Hartlepool in the league on Saturday and having only lost once in their previous 10 matches in all competitions.

  19. Charlton hunt for a new managerpublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2022

    Stockport v Charlton (19:45 GMT)

    Ben GarnerImage source, Rex Features

It's been a tricky week for Charlton, who saw manager Ben Garner sacked on Monday after just six months in charge.

The 42-year-old took over in June and had signed a three-year deal, but results have not gone the team's way on the pitch.

Charlton won only three of his last 16 league matches in charge, dating back to August, and have taken only two points from their last five matches to fall to 17th in the table.

Still, Garner told the South London Press, external after the whistle of his final game in charge, that the problems at the club were "cultural".

"You can keep changing manager every three or four months if you want. It's deeper than that. It's a cultural issue. It's a mentality issue," he said. .

First-team coach Anthony Hayes has been put in caretaker charge and will be in the dugout for tonight's match, with former captain Jason Pearce assisting him.

Charlton 2-2 Stockport County - highlights

Firstly, let's all refresh our minds as to what happened when these two sides first met last month...

We had plenty of last-minute drama at The Valley thanks to Stockport substitute Myles Hippolyte scoring a 97th-minute equaliser to make the final score 2-2.

League Two Stockport had taken a very early initial lead, thanks to a goal from defender Chris Hussey in the third minute.

Charlton equalised, albeit through an own-goal from County goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe, before Albie Morgan gave the Addicks a 2-1 lead just before half-time.

Hippolyte was the man of the hour, though, finding the crucial leveller deep in stoppage time to set up tonight's replay.
