Arsenal retain control of the Premier League title race after Eddie Nketiah's 90th-minute winner gives them a dramatic victory over Manchester United in a thriller at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tells BBC Sport: "I really enjoyed it. It was a beautiful moment at the end and we get going with our people behind us. It was beautiful."

On Eddie Nketiah's winner: "I wasn't sure; they were looking at something we hadn't seen and we very relieved. We got to celebrate twice."

"We showed a lot of emotional control - being 1-0 down to Manchester United is very tricky. They will kill you in big distances but we came back into the game. We stayed focused and I love this personality the players showed. We found the opening to win the game.

"They do surprise me with how they react. We encourage them to play free-flowing football and there is energy in the team and good things happen.

"To do it repeatedly against big teams, the way we played today, gives me a lot of positivity for the future. It is so tight now in the league, there are such small margins. Winning, losing or drawing, you have to be be conscious of that. If we can capitalise on the energy, it will be positive."

Jake: I disagree with the pessimistic United fans out there. We have shown real progress by competing against the soon-to-be champions, especially having played in the week too. On to the next.

Michael: Same issues at Utd: inability to drop underperforming players, Eriksen and Fernandes pretty poor now for a long time - we lose the midfield as soon as they are announced. Garnacho not starting when he makes a difference. Why the same thing with every manager?

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag speaking to Sky Sports: "Two games back-to-back have been really close. It's hard to accept when you lose in the last stage of the game.

"We made mistakes with all three goals. Normally we are better in such situations. It can’t happen."

Under too much pressure for the third goal? "No. It’s tough, that’s clear. We've had a lot of games that they didn't have, then they come here and are at home. We had moments on the break but we have to defend much better in that situation.

"We started the game very well, scored, are leading and then make so many mistakes that are actually unacceptable. We have to learn the lesson and move on.

"The two first goals start with a corner and we make so many mistakes from the corner to the goal. It can’t happen. It’s a lesson we have to take. We will face the players with this because it can’t happen. Good teams don’t make such mistakes."

Reality check? "It can be. Today we have to accept it. We are not satisfied with this performance because we can do better. You start well and you have to take benefit from that situation. It can’t happen that you concede like we did.

"This is one game. Last week we did very well. We kept them away from our box better and when they were in our box, we defended better."

Progress? "We realise [what needs to improve], as well. I’ve said the same in the dressing room but I also said that if you want to win, you can’t make the mistakes I just mentioned."

Manchester United have failed to win any of their last five away games in all competitions against Arsenal, losing four times and conceding at least twice in each defeat (D1).

It’s their longest winless run at the Gunners since October 2000 to March 2004 (five games).

Jonny: Arsenal are going to do a Leicester, aren't they? Riding a huge wave of emotion, making up for a lack of true quality and other teams that would normally challenge being well below their best.

Saidmadrid: This Arsenal team is young, talented, experienced and hungry for success. They are on the right path.

Arsenal's Oleksandr Zinchenko, speaking to BBC MOTD: "I love this winning, you know? The winning feeling in the last minute, the last second. It’s something you cannot describe.

"Today was unbelievable. I need to watch it again before I go to bed because these are the magic moments."

On the VAR wait for winning goal: "Some guys told me that it was so tight but on the pitch you don’t see it clearly. I just wanted to enjoy that moment.

"Afterwards when the referee was checking with VAR, the stadium didn’t breathe for 10 seconds. Then when the goal was given, the reaction was top.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "Emotional, a lot of passion, a lot of quality. It doesn't get much better than that. After the derby, to come here against this team and play the way we played. The second half especially, the performance was incredible.

"To win it in that way makes it even better.

"We were composed and determined at the same time. We managed the moments in the game. We never panicked. We always believed that we could win it. We showed the right composure in the box a lot of times but the ball didn't go in. Thankfully at the end it did."

On his yellow card: "Can't complain. You can always get better in life."

On waiting for VAR for winning goal: "We experienced something similar v Newcastle but today it went our way.

"I don't want to talk about individuals. We took the ball and made things happen. They are young but they are confident to do it."

On Arsenal's best ever start to a Premier League season: "It's great and we deserve to be where we are because of how we're playing. But there are a lot of things that we can do much better."

On pressure: "We've been talking about pressure for the last 12 or 13 games. Premier League teams will always make it difficult and we have to prepare for that."

On the importance of transfers: "Just in terms of numbers, we had 15 or 16 outfield players and it wasn't enough. They are going to help us. You saw Trossard is composed and confident already."

That's 13 goals in Nketiah's last 13 starts at Emirates Stadium.

Nick: Losing like that hurts but it's our first loss in 11 games and the progress we've made under Erik ten Hag is clear to see. We've got a great chance to end our wait for a trophy, starting with the League Cup semi-final this week, and a top four spot looks promising.

Matt: As a Utd fan, despite the immediate disappointment, I'm actually bizarrely quite heartened by that game. We're back competing and playing at a consistent high level. Good days to come, I think.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a great game with a lot of tempo and the audience is the big winner. Two top teams but of course we are disappointed when you lose this game at a late stage. All the goals we conceded today are mistakes - it can't happen.

"Even last week, we were so hard to beat in such situations. Today we were not. All three goals, we could have avoided.

"They are very good on the ball but we are a good defending team. There were not a lot of open chances. We made mistakes which we cannot make. This game was decided by small details but also the decision making. That is hard to accept and we have to learn from it.

"I want to win. It is not good enough. We want to be the number one but not if we make mistakes. That is clear and what I told them."

Gareth: McTominay was an invisible passenger as per usual and I’d love to be the scout who recommended Weghorst, who’s clearly got some sort of visionary abilities the rest of us don’t.

Mubeen: Weghorst presses but scores no goals - Ronaldo doesn't press but scores goals.

Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw tells Sky Sports: "In the second half we deserved that, we were a bit passive and let them control the game completely. To concede right at the end is gutting. We were fighting to the last second but we have to concentrate for the full game and one lapse in concentration could cost you a goal.

"Always coming to the Emirates, they start really fast. We had a bit more control in the game, aggressive and winning the ball high up but we backed off in the second half and they had chance after chance. They were going to have one more chance late on.

"You have to give them credit for what they have done this season, they deserve to be at the top with how they are playing. There is a long way to go and we have to focus fully on our next game, a big semi-final [against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup] coming up.

"The quality of these games is getting much higher. It was tough to be involved in but these are games you want to play in and test yourselves. We are all gutted in the changing room to concede so late on and it is a reality check."

James: Would be interested to know exactly what advantage everyone moaning about Arteta being out of his technical area thinks Arsenal are getting from this. Almost all managers do it. Excellent game of football and people still moan about things that really don't matter.

Alan: In the end, the extra midweek away game gave Arsenal the edge as Utd lost a key player in Casemiro and you could see the fatigue, come the end. Not exactly fair but that's the modern game. Arsenal won't complain, though, unless their shallow squad has to cope with similar.

"It doesn't get much better than that," says Mikel Arteta. "To win it in that way makes it even better."

Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah, speaking to Sky Sports about his winning goal: “I saw Martinez next to me so I thought I was onside but when you see that purple (VAR) screen come up, your heart always goes a bit.

"You could see how much we wanted to win and how bad we wanted it for ourselves and our fans. We kept pushing and pushing and thankfully we found the goal."

Joel: Can't deny that Arsenal deserve the points here. Man Utd have progressed but we're witnessing a Champions-elect Arsenal here. They've been sensational.

"We know how important this win is for us. It wasn't easy and it definitely wasn't our best start to the game but we showed a lot of character to come back and get the win."

On scoring in three consecutive games v Man Utd: "Hello Freddie, hello Thierry - I'm happy. I was so close to getting two but I'm just so happy I got that first one and it gave me confidence to keep shooting."

On Arsenal's best start to a Premier League season: "That's really significant. It's something we can be proud of but we have to stay humble. It's only halfway through the season and things can change very quickly.

"But if we keep playing like we have then we'll be in a good place at the end of the season, we just have to keep it up."

On what is behind Arsenal's success: "Firstly, the belief we have. Especially at the Emirates with our fans and how they support us. We went 1-0 down and they still support, they don't know how much that helps us.

"It's the way the coach is setting us up, too, and the players the coach has brought in."
