  1. 'We are making things hard for ourselves'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

    FT: Wolves 3-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson: "Sometimes in football you make mistakes and you get punished. We did that again and again. Two mistakes, two goals at the beginning of the game. We are making things hard for ourselves.

"After that we did a great second half. We could have done better on the third goal but it is a good moment from the opponent.

"I don't know what we need to happen to us to wake up. We come here, say we have to believe in ourselves but we don't act like that on the pitch or deserve that. Again, we have to put this behind us and take strength from ourselves and families to bounce back.

"I think everyone believes they are capable of doing these things it is that you have to fight for that. A game of 90+ minutes you have to do it consistently for the whole game. We showed today you can get punished for 15 minutes and that's what happened to us. We have the same players who achieved so many great things at this club and we are not performing well. It's difficult to say why.

"I'm not saying I don't trust we can't bounce back. I'm just so disappointed about tonight's game. We have to keep working."

Newcastle v West Ham (17:30 GMT)

Newcastle's last four league games have produced a total of just one goal, Alexander Isak's 89th-minute winner against Fulham.

Boxing Day was the last time a goal was scored in the first 88 minutes of a Newcastle Premier League match.

Newcastle v West Ham (17:30 GMT)

West Ham have lost 16 of their last 24 Premier League away matches (W4, D4), including seven of 10 in the current campaign.

They have only earned five points away from home this season, a joint low with Bournemouth and Leeds.

  4. 'Sabitzer has a chance to stake his claim'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

FT: Man Utd 2-1 Crystal Palace

    Ashley Williams
Former Wales captain on Final Score

Old Trafford is a tough place to go again. They deserved to win the game. Palace had their chances and scored a goal but I think Man United were worthy of the win.

It is a blow to lose Casemiro but Sabitzer is in and he will get his chance to stake his claim to a starting place.

The fans are back, the club is united again, it feels like how it should be for Man United at Old Trafford again.

Newcastle are unbeaten in 15 top-flight matches (W9, D6), one shy of an outright club record. They have not lost at home since April.

The Magpies have recorded six consecutive Premier League clean sheets - the longest such run by a team under an English manager since Steve McClaren's Middlesbrough kept seven successive shut-outs in 2003.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to Match of the Day: "Conceding early goals is not unfamiliar to us but the way we conceded them today was not acceptable. When you see the whole game, throughout the game in moments we played an outstanding game without scoring and a good away game without scoring, the third goal I don't count because it was the first time they passed the halfway line in the second half. The other two goals, going into a game with all the things we said during the week and before the game then this is the start is horrible.

"You do yourself no favours in these moments, giving easy balls away. We were passive in the two goals, everything we wanted to do was be compact and active but we were compact and passive. I can't explain it, I think why would you do that? But they did it anyway.

"The leadership [defensively] is missing but this is not my first explanation, I really think in the specific situation we could have and should have done better. We have to do better in these moments by not coming to this situation in the game so not chasing the game. We didn't finish things off properly, we missed the last pass, the intensity we played at times was good but we have put ourselves in a really average position for the two goals.

"We better change it. That's true, 100%. I have no words for it really, I'm sorry."

  7. 'We'll enjoy this one'published at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

    FT: Wolves 3-0 Liverpool

    Wolves

Wolves defender Craig Dawson on his debut: "Yeah obviously it's a great start. It was a great team performance from the lads. We worked hard this week. It dropped nicely for me and I put a bit of power behind it. Luckily it went in.

"They have great attacking threat and it's important we keep the clean sheets. It might be another meal out with the gaffer. We have a lot of quality players. The attackers are very powerful and skilful so we can score plenty of goals.

"It's a great set of lads. The group is very tight so hopefully we can keep the performances going like today. It's early days but we'll take every day how it comes. We'll enjoy this one then back to work."

More from Brendan Rodgers: "We thoroughtly deserved to win the game, were dangerous going forwards and it was an outstanding result.

"Our four goals were fantastic, we were very creative and we could have had five or six."

  9. 'Big win for Man Utd'published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

FT: Man Utd 2-1 Crystal Palace

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on Final Score

Results have gone well for Manchester United today. I think it will be tough for them to challenge but all they have to do is keep winning, keep going under the radar and see where it takes them.

That was a big win for them in the end. They were cruising, they were comfortable and there was a moment of madness from Casemiro.

It changes the flow of the game but then they showed resilience to see out the result in the end. They will be delighted with that result today.

  10. 'There is no doubt about the mentality of this team'published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

    Aston Villa 2-4 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers: "Our football was outstanding, we could have had more if we had been clinical. Tete is an out and out winger and he was outstanding, he gives us the space in the middle by playing so wide.

"Second half we were solid, tight and organised against a team whose recent record has veen very good.

"There is no doubt about the mentality of this team. We were calm when we came under pressure and we deserved the win."

  11. 'Brentford have been quietly good for a long time'published at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

    FT: Brentford 3-0 Southampton

    Ashley Williams
Former Wales captain on Final Score

Brentford have been good today and they have been quietly good for a long time. They scored some good goals. I don't know where Southampton are going, I'm not sure why they didn't threaten Brentford.

Brentford were organised as they always are, showing good quality and cut Southampton open. Southampton fans are not happy and I can see why.

  12. 'A positivity around the club'published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

    Aston Villa 2-4 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester midfielder James Maddison: "We needed to win today, especially with some tough games ahead. We felt we could come here and play well.

"There's a positivity around the club with some new faces and we got the points today. Tete was outstanding today, he plays on the right which is where I've had to play so it's nice to get some pace out there.

"Getting new players in the door gives you a lift. The table doesn't lie but we know we can inject some oomph to go on a winning run. We are capable of that."

Outside chance for top four for Brighton. Picking up results within striking distance of the top four they could be off for a European adventure at this rate. What a well run club.

  14. 'There is no excuse for it'published at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2023

    FT: Wolves 3-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to PLP: "Obviously it was a horrible start. Two goals which cannot happen like that. But it happened and we were 2-0 down because of our own fault. We should have defended better. We were passive in that period. I cannot explain it. There is no excuse for it.

"You're 2-0 down, the crowd is there but it opens up and we get some control. Then for about 45 minutes we play a good away game without scoring. That sums it up pretty much.

"Concentration for the first 15 minutes. Again, I cannot explain. But these 15 minutes cannot be allowed. It needs to change. That's the thing. I stand here again and for the first 15 minutes I have no explanation, I'm sorry. In the end we lost 3-0 because the goal in the second half was perhaps the first time they crossed the halfway line. But it's right because when you start like this you don't deserve anything in a Premier League game.

"We have to change it immediately in the next game. Everton won today and they are in a good moment so we have to prove a point again. For the moment, I'm so disappointed and angry about the first 15 minutes, I can't find the words for it. Then we have chances we should score. It could have been 2-1 and that would have changed everything I'm sure. Wolves deserve the three points.

"Yes, definitely. That's clear. We cannot go through that season that nobody did before but how long do we want to suffer? It is one explanation in general yes, but not for the first 15 minutes here today. What we make of it in this moment is absolutely not OK."

"Fans can dream for Europe, we'll keep going and work hard for them. We'll keep going and get results."

Glenn: I was Jones out. Then we beat City, and I thought we'd turned a corner. But that was a false dawn. He must go if we are to stand a chance of staying up. But it may already be too late.

"We are trying to play from the back and mistakes will happen, it's about how we react now. We made more than one, Leicester deserve the win, they pressed really high.

Huge applause from the home fans after what was probably Wolves' most comfortable win of the season.

Julen Lopetegui has got this side scoring again and his name is chanted around the ground.

It was a strange sight in the final few minutes as the home side passed and passed and passed to huge 'oles', Liverpool's players just looked beaten and like they had given up.

Defeat to Brighton earlier this year was a low for the Reds, but this was another in a season with far too many of them.

United have been the better side, Palace lacking in confidence and didn't make a contest of it. The sending off, which was a very poor decision, changed the game. But United dug in and with the backing of the fans they've done it.
