  1. 'Ruben has steadied the ship'published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton's James Ward-Prowse: "Amazing feeling. The game was obviously overshadowed a bit by the injury to Cesar and we wish our best to him. We hope he is OK."

On Ruben Selles' impact as interim boss: "It has been a tough season for us. We have lacked a bit of consistency in all aspects of our game, Ruben has come in this week and been fantastic. He has steadied the ship and calmed every one down.

"It is not for me to make the decisions but whoever the manager is we will make sure we will give 100%."

On closing in on David Beckham's record of most direct free kicks in the Premier League: "It is good for me to know any skill in life you work hard for you can perfect it. When I was a kid doing this in my parents garden it was what I dreamed to do so it is great to do it today."

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on Football Focus

I predicted Liverpool to win the league but they have had an awful season. I do think they can finish in the top four. They have Dogo Jota coming back, Roberto Firmino coming back. We saw Virgil van Dijk on the bench so he is available. The inten

  3. 'Massive improvement'published at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    Newcastle v Liverpool (17:30 GMT)

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on Football Focus

Newcastle have shown massive improvement. The fact we're talking about them finishing in the top-four, they're in a cup final. They have a foundation and are very hard to break down. I like the way in which they press. I don't think they have a problem scoring goals. The amount of chances they create in games, it's just a matter of putting them away. They are not losing and that is the important thing.

  4. Sutton's predictionspublished at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    Newcastle v Liverpool (17:30 GMT)

    Sutton's predictions

Have Liverpool turned the corner with Monday's win over Everton? I am not sure about that.

Jurgen Klopp's side did look more like their old selves, especially with the way they counter-attacked, but their defence was not exactly stretched.

The question with Newcastle is whether they are just running out of steam. They looked short of energy against Bournemouth last time out.

Bruno Guimaraes, who is still suspended, is a big miss too. They just don't have the same control in midfield without him.

Liverpool are the only team to have beaten Newcastle in the league this season. I don't see them doing the double - but I am going to sit on the fence and go with a draw.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

  5. 'Newcastle players will not want to get injured'published at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    Newcastle v Liverpool (17:30 GMT)

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on Football Focus

This is a massive season for Newcastle regardless of the Carabao Cup final. No-one really expected them to be where they are. As a player, you will have half an eye on the cup final next weekend. Subconsciously, they'll not want to get injured. The cup final is a momentous day in the club's history.

  6. 'We didn't deserve the three points'published at 17:08 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Brighton 0-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham goalscorer Manor Solomon: "We didn't deserve the three points today but we are so happy it happened."

On his goal: "I saw a clear space so I went to the ball and I knew I had a good chance to score. I'm really happy I put it in a good space."

On being on the bench: "As a football player I always want to start but I had a long injury which I just came two months ago to full training so sometimes it's difficult to be in the starting eleven. Now I'm getting the confidence back and I'm really happy to be playing my football again."

On Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi, who was his coach at Shakhtar Donetsk: "Me and Roberto have been through a lot in Ukraine. It was just seven months but with the war and everything we've been through a lot. I'm glad that he's succeeded at Brighton and I wish him the best."

On the situation in Ukraine: "I've got a lot of friends there in Ukraine. I know now the situation is a lot better but I know the situation is still bad. I want it to be over, I want my team-mates to be good and feel safe. I wish all the best to Shakhtar and to Ukraine."

  7. 'I don’t believe now is the time for words, now is the time for action'published at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Everton 1-0 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds right-back Rasmus Kristensen: "Obviously we're massively disappointed. We were right in it and we talked about it would be a scruffy game. What happened on the goal happened, but we are disappointed. We came here for three points and we leave with zero, that’s the reality.

"I don’t believe now is the time for words, now is the time for action and we need to look forward, stay positive, keep our heads high and turn these things around."

On whether a permanent manager is needed sooner rather than later: "I think Skoobs is doing a hell of a job. He’s been able to keep the team together and put a great game plan out there. I think he is doing a really good job."

  8. 'It's a time for actions not words'published at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Everton 1-0 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds right-back Rasmus Kristensen: "Obviously, we're massively disappointed, we were right in it, we talked about a scrappy game, a lot of duels, crosses, tackles.

"What happened with the goal happened. We came here for three points and leave with zero. That's the reality."

On going 10 Premier League games without a win: "Now is not a time for words, it is a time for action. We must keep our heads up and turn this around for the weekend [at home to fellow strugglers Southampton]."

On not having a permanent manager: "Skoobs [Michael Skubala] is doing a hell of a job, with the way he is able to keep the team together and put a gameplan together."

  9. 'We want to show we are all together and all fighting'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Everton 1-0 Leeds

    Everton

Everton goalscorer Seamus Coleman: "We didn’t go away from what we have been working from since the manager came in and we did that today and thankfully we got the win."

On whether his goal came from a cross or shot: "When I was down there I suppose everyone was expecting the cross but the way my hip was feeling I couldn’t wrap my leg around it so I just thought I’d have a shot because I knew he’d be anticipating the cross. Thankfully I caught it well, I wouldn’t catch it like that if I tried again another 10 times. We got what we deserved to be honest."

On whether the melee helped Everton's momentum: "It can go either way, you can gain momentum or lose momentum. We want to show we are all together and all fighting and we have to give our fans something to support and when we do you saw them at the end there. Throughout the match they were massive. It’s three points and we move onto the next one game by game."

  10. 'So important we won'published at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal's Oleksandr Zinchenko, speaking to MOTD: "It's a huge three points for us. It's never easy to play here against an unbelievable team like Aston Villa. I am so happy to help the team as much as I can. The performance in the first half wasn't good enough but the reaction in the second half was right.

"It was so important to win this game. It's about the mood in the team and the rhythm of the team. You need to keep moving and improving."

  11. 'Totally merited the win'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Arsenal 2-4 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to MOTD: "Today I think we can take two big lessons. In the first half we did the simple things wrong and in the second half we raised our individual level and did the simple things right. We totally merited the win.

"Jorginho produced an incredible moment. For us it will be Jorginho's goal. Psychological it was really tough to get that result against Manchester City and then less than three days we come to Aston Villa and win which is a difficult thing to do.

"Character, quality and having the right temperament and personality, not throw our toys away, emotionally I think we coped really well."

  12. 'We needed a magic moment and Jorginho produced it'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta tells BT Sport: "We showed a lot of character and resilience from the game to get back twice in the game and end up winning it. We have to take some lessons from today, especially in the first half we didn’t do all the simple things right and then you give them the chance to score those goals in a really simple way. But we talked at half-time, we raised individual standards and started to do what they had to and went on to win."

On what didn’t work in the first half: "The way we gave the ball [away] when we are completely open, leaving the left channel to Watkins one against one, we knew that was a big concern. They had two shots and scored two goals Credit to them for that but in the second half we overplayed them, we created chance after chance and dominated the game. We needed a magic moment and Jorginho produced it."

On Jorginho’s goal: "He’s got many qualities but that’s not his biggest strength. He was so much into the game and the boys really wanted it. Especially what happened a few days ago, we are so pleased to win the game."

On Zinchenko's first Arsenal goal: "It took him too long. He has been practicing on that and I am so happy for him. He had a difficult action in the first goal when he gave the ball away but he reacted really well."

On if winning like this means more than an easy 4-0 win: "When you want to be at the top you have to win games in many different ways. You have to score goals in the 94th and come back. To it against this team in this stadium, a lot of credit to this boys."

On the post-match dressing room scenes: "It was absolutely bouncing because it was a big effort to play less than 72 hours ago after the game we had and after the result that morally is touching. I’m really pleased with the boys."

  13. 'We've been here before'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, speaking to MOTD: "I feel like we have been in this situation too many times. We need to take a point and move on. When we went long, I wasn't really winning headers. When we played it short it was hard to play out from the back because they are very organised.

"The way to get to them was probably on the counter attack and we didn't really do that. It's nice for me to score. I bet myself to score goals but it's a shame it's not really leading to anything at the moment."

  14. 'I don't really know what went wrong'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa goalscorer Ollie Watkins tells BT Sport: "Similar to the Leicester game really we had a good start, went in front, they scored, we scored again. I don’t know what happened really. It’s one of those games where you have to look back and go over it but in the moment you don’t really know what happened. A good team like Arsenal punished us at the end of the day and I don’t really know what went wrong."

On if it was disappointing not to see the game out: "At 2-2 with four or five minutes to go, we should see the game out and draw at the end of the day. I don’t think they can score two goals. Obviously Jorginho’s goal was lucky but they had a lot of the ball in the second half and kept putting pressure on us. It’s disappointing at the end of the day."

On extending his scoring run: "I feel good. Going into each game I feel confident and feel like I’m going to score goals now going into each game which is a nice feeling for a striker. Any team I come up against I feel like I’m gong to have the beating of the centre halves as long as my team-mates play me the ball. I feel good at the moment but it’s a shame we’re not winning to top that off."

On the change since Unai Emery arrived: "We’ve shown that we play some good football at times. Maybe not today actually, we didn’t play great. There have been times we have played some really good football and been patient on the ball. Whatever team you’re up against you need to stick to the game plan and that’s what the boss has tried to implement. We can do it, it’s just turning the losses into draws and then winning games."

  15. 'I have never told my goalkeeper to go to score'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery tells BT Sport: "Very disappointed. But it’s not strange for me. I spoke with the players when I arrived here. It was normal the reaction. When you change one coach, the players react quickly, maybe one two weeks, one month two months. We did it, but then it’s how we can improve. We are very demanding to improve. Playing here in the best league in the world, we are trying to do one game plan but on the pitch we are not doing it. Why? We have to take our time with the process.

"Today we scored the first goal but really we didn’t play like I want. I know this step is the most difficult. The result is not important, it is important how we react, how we are trying to improve and really we are not progressing. The last two or three matches we are not progressing.

"I am frustrated but I know our time here is taking time, being demanding, doing mistakes and learning about our mistakes. For example, I have never told my goalkeeper to go to score one goal in the 92nd minute. Maybe [they will score] one time out of 100, maybe 20 times they are doing the transition and scoring 10 goals. Today it happened.

"For me it’s not being smart, not consistent in how we want to play, how we want to compete. We can lose 3-2, but 4-2 is not a good result. I prefer today happened, the players analyse and understand how we want to do our way. It is my responsibility, but today I gave them responsibility."

  16. 'I'm embarrassed about the last goal'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, speaking to MOTD: "I'm frustrated. It's not the way I want. I told the players we were reacting very well after changing the coach. The problem now is how we improve with the ball and take control of the game.

"Arsenal are a very good team and with a very good spirit. We need time to build and how we want to progress."

On Emi Martinez: "Today, I am very, very disappointed. I am embarrassed about the last goal. I have never told my keeper to go forward. It's not the spirit. We have to keep our mind clear and be smart. No, no, not like that [he didn't ask me if he could go forward]. I have never told my keeper to do it. Today he decided it was his decision. I didn't tell him. He knows now [not to do it]."

  17. Reaction from the earlier game...published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on Final Score

It’s massive for this young group of players at Arsenal. To overcome defeat in the manner they did, to bounce back after a midweek game away at Villa is difficult. Arteta doesn’t tend to change his team and he hasn’t done often. Winning the game in the second half is difficult. To get that win in the second half will be pleasing for Arteta and Arsenal.

Arsenal remain top thanks to Manchester City dropping points.
