  1. Team news - Two changes for Robins, five for Baggiespublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

Bristol City v West Brom (15:00 GMT)

Nigel Pearson makes two changes for Bristol City, both enforced. Jay Dasilva comes in for the suspended Cameron Pring while Sam Bell makes his first start, replacing Antoine Semenyo, who scored in four of his last five City appearances but joined Bournemouth yesterday.

Bristol City XI: O’Leary, Tanner, Vyner, Atkinson, Dasilva, Naismith, James, Scott, Sykes, Bell, Wells.

Subs: Haikin, Kalas, King, Taylor-Clarke, Kadji, Williams, Thomas, Francois.

Carlos Corberan makes five changes for West Brom with David Button, Adam Reach, Semi Ajayi, Karlan Grant and Tom Rogic brought in. Alex Palmer, Conor Townsend, Erik Pieters and Grady Diangana drop to the bench while John Swift misses out with an ankle knock.

West Brom XI: Button, Furlong, O’Shea, Ajayi, Reach, Molumby, Yokuslu, Rogic, Wallace, Dike, Grant.

Subs: Palmer, Andrews, Diangana, Gardner-Hickman, Livermore, Malcolm, Pieters, Townsend, Thomas-Asante.

  2. Mariners plotting a course for the fifth roundpublished at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    Luton v Grimsby (15:00 GMT)

A gulf of 57 places separates Luton from Grimbsy in the EFL ladder, suggesting this is the third biggest mismatch in the entire fourth round.

This is, however, the FA Cup, where matches are not played ‘on paper’ and folklore is waiting to be written.

Though they made the semi-final twice before World War II, the last time Paul Hurst’s side reached this stage of the competition the world was still breathing a sigh of relief at having swerved the much-hyped Millennium Bug in January 2000.

Luton were finalists in 1959 and made the last-16 just last season, while they have a miserly record for being on the end of upsets – dispatching the last 16 lower division sides they faced in the FA Cup.

The Hatters might be the hot favourites with the bookmakers but it’s Grimsby who have come out on top in the only two previous meetings between these sides in the competition. The Mariners edged to a 4-3 win at Kenilworth Road in 1950 before demolishing their visitors 7-1 at Blundell Park in 1996.

The travelling Mariners fans would surely settle for 1-0 today…

  3. Birmingham hope cup run can lift league bluespublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    Blackburn v Birmingham (15:00 GMT)

It is at times like this when the FA Cup can become a lifesaver in a club's season.

Birmingham City have lost five in a row in the Championship to drop from seventh and two points outside the play-offs to their current position of 19th, looking nervously over their shoulders towards the bottom three.

Their only success in that period was a 2-1 win at Forest Green Rovers in the third round of the FA Cup and the hope of another cup win means nearly 4,000 Blues have headed up to East Lancashire.

Sheff Weds v Fleetwood (15:00 GMT)

Fleetwood Town are in the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time and now they are looking to be one of the last 16 teams left in this season's competition.

It's all new for the Cod Army, and it's a first crack at the FA Cup for manager Scott Brown. But lifting the Scottish version was commonplace during his years at Celtic, achieving the feat six times and all as captain of the Glasgow giants.

To reach round five, Fleetwood must overcome fellow League One side Sheffield Wednesday, conquerors of Newcastle in the last round, and a side whom they have twice lost to in recent weeks.

At least one League One side will be in the fifth round. That's because third tier rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Fleetwood Town meet at Hillsborough.

This is the first time that Fleetwood have reached the FA Cup fourth round.

Josh Windass has scored three FA Cup goals for Sheffield Wednesday this season, equalling his dad Dean’s best scoring season in the competition (three for Oxford in 1998-99).

The last Owls player with more FA Cup goals in a season was Clinton Morrison in 2010-11 (five).

    Southampton v Blackpool (15:00 GMT)

Will Mick McCarthy make an immediate impact at Blackpool?

The former Republic of Ireland boss, 63, takes charge of his first game after the Seasiders sacked Michael Appleton.

Blackpool are in a relegation fight in the Championship and McCarthy admits that the league takes priority over the FA Cup.

"Listen, if I get us to the cup final and win it, wouldn’t that be great? But the reality is I’ve been brought in to help keep the club in the league," said McCarthy, who is back in management for the first time since leaving Cardiff in October 2021.

"Despite the FA Cup game, I’m still thinking about the league games we’ve got coming."

  7. 'I'm building my minutes'published at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: Accrington 1-3 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford on BBC One: "We started slowly, Accrington made it difficult. After we got the first goal, we got into the game. Second half, we were much better.

"I'm feeling a lot better. Today I was just missing a goal. I've been building the minutes up slowly, gradual progress.

"The FA Cup has taken pressure off and given some confidence. We've been growing with each performance, it's just about turning draws and losses into wins."

  8. Team news - Eight changes for Saints, five for Seasiderspublished at 14:29 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    Southampton v Blackpool (15:00 GMT)

Southampton make eight changes from their Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg defeat at home to Newcastle.

Lyanco, Mislav Orsic and Sekou Mara are the only players to keep their place in the side. Duje Caleta-Car is serving a one-match suspension following his sending=off against the Magpies, while recent signing James Bree is cup-tied.

Captain James Ward-Prowse is not in the squad.

Southampton XI: Caballero, Maitland-Niles, Lyanco, Bella-Kotchap, Perraud, Lavia, Elyounoussi, Aribo, Orsic, Mara, Edozie

Subs: Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Salisu, Diallo, Alcaraz, Walcott, Adams, Ballard, A Armstrong

New Blackpool manager Mick McCarthy makes five changes for his first match in charge.

Brentford loanee Charlie Goode makes his debut, while Tom Trybull is handed his first start for the club. Andy Lyons, Ian Poveda and Jerry Yates also come in.

Blackpool XI: Maxwell, Lyons, Connolly, Goode, Husband, Hamilton, Trybull, Patino, Bowler, Poveda, Yates

Subs: Grimshaw, Thorniley, Thompson, Dougall, Carey, Rogers, Apter, Lavery, Madine

  9. Team news - promotion contenders ring the changespublished at 14:28 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    Ipswich v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

Ipswich Town have shown where their priorities are with eight changes from the team that beat Morecambe 4-0 on Tuesday night.

Ipswich XI: Hladky, Donacien, Woolfenden, Edmundson, Jackson, Evans, Morsy, Leigh, Aluko, Harness, Hirst.

Subs: Walton, Burgess, Vincent-Young, Humphreys, Luongo, Edwards, Broadhead, Chaplin, Ladapo.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has made seven alterations to the side which clocked up an eighth straight Championship win with a 2-1 success over West Bromwich Albion.

Match winner Scott Twine makes his first Clarets start, along with new signing, Ameen Al-Dakhil, a Belgium Under-21 defender.

Burnley XI: Peacock-Farrell, Vitinho, Beyer, Al-Dakhil, Taylor, Cork, Bastien, Churlinov, Tella, Twine, Rodriguez.

Subs: Casper, Maatsen, Roberts, Ekdal, Cullen, Brownhill, Zaroury, Foster, Barnes.
